possibility of D&RGW converting narrow-gauge San Juan Extension to standard gauge

How seriously did the D&RGW management of the 1950s and 1960s consider the possibility of standard-gauging the Antonito-Farmington route?

Was it just a "we thought about it, and there is no way that replacing all of those bridges and widening those tunnels and rights-of-way would be worth the cost given the projected traffic base," or did some estimators and accountants actually spend some time and effort doing a serious item-by-item estimate of the cost and do a real cost-benefit analysis?
