Re: MSU
I’d be curious to know what kind of knowledge the students had of the passenger rail system back then? Where they interested in it, or the value more rail could provide today?

Re: MSU
I'll bet the depots would have a broad appeal to the group, class. Most interesting.

Re: MSU
That’s outstanding! I’m as excited to hear that anyone in today’s collegiate system would want to present the topic as I am for you and their wisdom to choose you! What was the class?

Well it’s official, I taught my first college class today at MSU.
We took an in depth look at the growth of the railroads in Texas, plus examined the state’s passenger train network, dining car

Do not think they received fuel from the top of unit. Fuel tank and fill were under the unit. Think radiator may have been real low are lube oil. Really did not know there were any fill caps on roof.

MKT depot [photographer unknown]
1960s might be a good estimate of the date of the photo.

Nice aerial view of much of downtown in the 1920s, thanks to Traces of Texas on Twitter.
What railroad features can you spot?

Re: Ditch Lights
If you want to re-live that experience, take a trip to the Chicago suburbs and find a nice place to sit and watch the commuter rush along any one of METRA’s lines. All of their locomotives and cab

Re: Ditch Lights
Some of the early BN SD70MACs did have alternating ditchlights. There are at least a few YouTube videos that show this phenomenon. From what I have derived, it wasn't some fixed number series. I

Re: Ditch Lights
Mars lights have not been used in a long time. Since they used a mechanical device to rotate the light around, it was high maintenance, and fell out of favor.
I remember staying at my grandparents

Re: Ditch Lights
The BN units I was referring to were the whiteface and zebra striped GP50s. I believe a few SD40-2s were outfitted with them, too. I grew up and lived a half mile from the BRI so I've gotten to watch
