The two Patrick Henry private cars just crossed the Mississippi River and arrived in Fort Madison as I write this.

If they remain on the
train in KC they should be crossing Raton Pass tomorrow on #3.

Hack fares to N.O. stations (1909)

Dennis Hogan

In 1909 visitors to New Orleans were provided with what they could expect to pay for transportation via hacks and cabs. Of particular interest was the fare for the various train and steamboat depots to hotels as well as charges for baggage. [A "hack" is short for a hackney carriage.]

No problem. The article just happened to show up in my news feed today. I was unaware of Saturday’s “fun” until the article. It’s a camera I occasionally watch.

KCS Alliance Sub update

Dennis Hogan

Edited

From Trainorders:

"Update on the KCS Alliance sub that runs from Wylie Texas to Denton area to Krum TX.
Link > https://www.dart.org/about/expansion/silverline.asp

The jointed rail is on borrowed time.  The DART Silverline project will be happening soon. DART will pull up a portion of the line from Renner Connection near Custer Road to East Plano at Los Rios Blvd and replace with concrete ties and new rail.

KCS will detour trains from on the Dallas sub and White Rock branch until the DART Silverline project is finished. Estimated to take a year.  LWY101, locals and sand trains will run from Wylie down the Dallas sub to Dallas yard (Zacca) and vice versa. Since there is no connecting track to the White Rock branch from the Dallas sub. Trains arriving Dallas yard from either direction will have to run ther power around to their train to get moving again. Unless they run with DP units. Going to be interesting to see this.

KCS will be compensated for the detours. $2000 per each detour not to exceed 1 million dollars.  The local news have covered a few complaints from the NIMBY's (not in my backyard). All negative of course. Many will die as a result of this dormant track being reactivated. L O L "

Does anyone know what’s going on in LaPlata this evening?

Train 3 stopped immediately after departing the station and now police have arrived.

Awesome. Thanks.

CORRECTION!!!  Sorry for the confusion!!

422 denotes THROUGH cars operating Los Angeles-Chicago.  Passengers booked on 422 (and 421) ride through in the same car, barring unusual circumstance and remain on the train at San Antonio.  Those booked on 2/22 or 22/1 must detrain, wait in the station, and reboard with the other passengers.

I've always wondered but forget to ask.

What is the difference between 22 and 422? I know it's the same train, but I don't know why they have 2 designations.

It appears Amtrak having a PLETHORA of service failures in the West, not always Mechanical & last trace shows #1 NOT moving, guessing IT'S STILL PARKED in Houston (Unless it's moving in STEALTH MODE to San Antonio for staging to fill in for the missing #1 that was supposed to depart New Orleans Yesterday.

Howard Bingham, about to catch some Zzz's 🥱 and see what happens after resting eyes 🛌for 7-8 hour's.🤠

It was all brought about by scheduled repairs and remodeling of the LaPlata  station, requiring removal of the cameras.

Question: what is going on at LaPlata, Missouri? Looks like the rail cam has been moved about a block NE to the old Wabash bridge abutment and although it’s hard to tell it looks like they have painted the depot green.

Looks like a meet is about to take place.
