Departed Houston 751pm, 56m late.

It detoured Rosenberg-Flatonia via West Point.  Amtrak crew not qualified on the detour, UP engineer and conductor required as pilots.

Approximate times on detour:

Stopped west of Rosenberg 915pm-1031pm.

Reversed to Rosenberg, enroute on detour approx. 400am.

Cat Spring 511am.

New Ulm 526am.

West Point 530am.

Flatonia 700am.

Arrived San Antonio 858am, 8:53 late.  Amtrak crew Hours of Service would have expired enroute but I would expect that a relief crew could have met the train at Flatonia.

I meant that it went to San Antonio.

I heard this morning that yesterday’s Train 1 out of Houston took a rare mileage trip because of a UP freight that had broke down west of Rosenberg.

Supposedly the train went ex-SP Houston to Rosenberg, ex-Santa Fe Rosenberg to Sealy, ex-MKT Sealy to West Point, ex-SAAP West Point to Flatonia, and then back on the ex-SP to Houston.

It’s currently running over 9 hours late out of San Antonio.

Anyone know more about this?

Not good at all.

So in spite of Amtrak’s big feel good announcements recently they now pull this.

This has always been Amtrak’s problem. They take one step forward and two steps back.

It's unknown if full service Dining will be fully returned in June as well as technically with the Eagle being a one-night train, they consider it kin to the CoNO and may retain flex dining. Coach passengers are stuck in their seats with no where to go as currently the car closes for a few hours at a time to serve Sleeper passengers only. There is no seating anywhere in the car for Coach passengers even when the snack bar is open.  The current logic is one LSA can handle a full sleeper with meal service and 2 coaches on their own. The second Sleeper currently in all the Eagle sets only has Bedroom space available for sale, not Roomettes as the Dorms were pulled off as well. Train will remain a 5-car operation south of St. Louis with no 3rd Coach returning either. "

The depot itself is okay with at most minor damage. Much of the fencing between the station and the tracks was blown over onto the railroad.

That locomotive is presumably FW&DC #8.
Steve Goen suggests it could be the same #8 that is now at the NSRM in Carson City NV?
That locomotive was
originally DT&FW #8 and had some missing years of history before
showing up on the D&R

We need to take that RDC out for a NRHS excursion and field trip with two or three runbys in each direction. Do it on a Sunday when the TRE is basically shut down.
