Hi Jon,

You wrote, "I would want to buy it on the decoder. "

As Ed mentioned, the sound file is available for the Titan decoder.   That's part of what makes the Titan such a great decoder - you can update the sound files as they become available (using the optional QSI Programmer).   However, you can purchase the Titan decoder with the Winton sound file already loaded, directly from Q.S. Industries.   http://www.qsindustries.com/

You wrote: " It's not available on JMRI for some reason. "  You can still use JMRI Decoder Pro or QSI's own,  free download, CV Manager (works with NCE systems and with QSI Programmer).

Currently, there are only two QSI Titan version 9 decoders listed in JMRI Decoder Pro (a steam and a diesel).  To use a QSI Titan with version 9 firmware (the Emulator) in JMRI Decoder Pro you simply select the diesel (if memory serves, it's the EMD 567).  Don't worry, it's just a label - it will not change the Winton sound file to something else.   Once selected you can set the CVs to your hearts content.

You wrote, "I would then lock it  after selecting what I want in terms of CVs. "

Another great thing about the Emulator (QSI Titan with version 9 firmware) is the fact that, just like the full scale locomotive, the sounds are dynamic.   Changing the momentum values and load (length of train, grade, etc.) will change the sounds and operating characteristics of the locomotive.   The exhaust will become laboured and 'bark' sharper, etc..   To do that you may not want to 'lock' the decoder because 'momentum' changes with load.

Oh, and the fully variable train brake (when the momentum CVs are properly set) emulates the full scale very well.

Really, there is so much, so many features to the Emulator, I just cannot list them here.   I suggest downloading the full manual (it's huge because there are so many features).

Best regards,
KJ

I don't have any "black boxes" from any manufacture.  I would want to buy it on the decoder.  I would then lock it  after selecting what I want in terms of CVs.  It's not available on JMRI for some reason.

How do you like the sound?

Atlas qsi light

ron wright

have several atlas gold locos with the qsi sound installed. I want to add ditchlights, but have been unable to figure out light output programming. Is jmri the way to go that would be easier? Having trouble finding the steps to program using my dcc system. Also is it just possible that the decoder doesn't have these outputs? I like the sound and features so I don't want to replace the decoder. They are atlas gp38's.

Thanks,

Kelly, Thanks. I know you don't have a crystal ball but what do you see for the future for QSI. I am not being nosy either. As an installer I need to know that I am going to have support for the decoders I install. I agree the Titans are a good and sophisticated decoder and have installed several. Steam, Diesel, Budd car, etc. Sometimes I think too sophisticated. Right now i have two brass Budds I am trying to decide whether to use Titans or something else. I have already installed one Titan in a Budd car for the same customer which does impact the decision. Also what will the cost to me be as an installer and that is why I was trying to contact you back channel. Thanks, Rick.

Your guess is as good as anybody's at this point.Apparently, QSI doesn't want to answer this question, so it's going to be left up to you to decide their future.

So far nothing from Kelly. I thought i asked a straight forward question. Now I am wondering are the Titans that are available are  just "left overs" they want to get rid of ??

Hi Rick,

Im sorry about that, this one just slid by me. Not ignoring you. The Titan-U decoders we have are new, recently manufactured units. We also have new Quantum Programmers, and Quantum Engineer units. QSI is doing well, and we have more items in production.
Now that you have my attention, how may I help?

Hi Rick,

Sorry, this slid past me, not ignoring you. So to answer your question, the Titan-U boards we have in stock are new production units. I can also program them if you wish.  The future of QSI is good, and we have more units in process now.  Programmers, and Quantum Engineers are also available.

Now that you have my attention,  how may I help?

Good for you Bruce.   I am still fighting a new windows 10 laptop.  After going thru the unsigned driver drill, I hit a new roadblock called "bitlocker". I finally got past that, installed everything, and I am getting the warning incompatable driver ver 0.0.0.0.

OMG why does Microsoft make things so much harder?
I will keep banging away at it.
