Excellent news, Josh!! Whenever Atlas gets the Gensets out I'll put in a Quantum Rev. with a switcher set and wait to load up the Genset sound when you get it ready.

Re: Trying to Program Proto E8 mars

Dave,

Anyone know the right cv's to change to get the mars and headlight
to work prototypically? <<<

The Front Headlight behavior is controlled by the CV55.70.SI CV's,
where SI is the Secondary Index (CV50).

The Front Mars Light behavior is controlled by the CV55.76.SI CV's.

Tell me exactly how you want the Front Headlight and Front Mars Light
to behave in FWD, NFF, REV, and NFR and I will tell what values
to program into the CV's.

The default behavior for the Front Headlight is
Bright in FWD
Dim in NFF
Dim in REV
Dim in NFR
How do you want the Front Headlight to behave?

The default behavior for the Front Mars Light is
Strobe in FWD
Dim in NFF
Dim in REV
Dim in NFR
How do you want the Front Mars Light to behave?

I also want to use the reverse light output to control a
roof beacon. I am close to getting the reverse output to be controlled with the
F3 function key, but it only works in reverse still. If I have to use a small
circuit to make it
flash is fine, I just want the reverse light output controlled by an F key in
any direction. <<<

Here are the steps to get control of the reverse light using F3.
(1) Set CV55.136.0 to "5". This removes the reverse light from F0 control.
(2) Set CV53.5.0 to "74" This specifies that F3 control the Reverse Light in FWD/REV.
(3) Set CV53.5.1 to "74" This specifies that F3 control the Reverse Light in NFF/NFR.
(4) Set CV55.73.0 to "0" or "2". This specifies that the Reverse Light be OFF "0" or ON "2" at powerup.

Now you should be able to turn the Reverse Light on/off with F3.

I also re-aligned the number board lights as ditch-lights. I know I cant make them flash, but just being lit with the headlights is good enough for now. How can I make the ditchlights turn on and off with the front headlight......

John M. Fiscella asks:

Is that 51 a long or short address?

I tried both. HOWEVER...success! I used Programming on the Main and simply programmed CV 1 to 51 and...voila!...it worked. I had been using the program track following the NCE manual. BTW, my NCE controller apparently never received any identification info from the decoder. Maybe that confused the poor controller...who knows.

I suppose it's a bit like the weather. Years ago when I experienced temperatures of, say, 14, I knew it was cold. I didn't concern myself too much with WHY it was cold.

Ain't standards nice?

Re: Dynamic Brake Fan sounds

g_pruss

Mike,

Upon further investigation, what I said in my previous message
on this topic is not entirely correct. We didn't include the
Dynamic Brake Fans records in ALL firmware when the OEM requested
no Dynamic Brake Fans sounds. In particular, none of the 133 firmware
has Dynamic Brake Fans records. You can determine this yourself
by trying to retrieve or have the loco speak out the value of
CV52.28. The CV is not supported by 133 firmware.

But, if you are interested in upgrading your SW8's with 133 firmware
that does support Dynamic Brake Fans Sounds, submit a request
to QSI Solutions and we will build new 133 firmeware to
satisfy the request.

So if you have recent firmware for the LL SW8, such as 133-0v7-40-6,
the firmware does have Dynamic Brake Fan records, and you can
activate these sounds by setting CV52.28 to "11".

If your SW8 firmware is several years old, then the firmware may not
have Dynamic Brake Fan records. If that is the case, the solution
is to upgrade your SW8's to the most recent 133 firmware.

I'm having a rather bizarre problem after installing the Quantum Revolution
in an Athearn turbine. Using the program track, I have programmed the number
to 51. Everything works fine except the engine runs in the opposite
direction to that directed through my NCE controller. OK...noooo problem. I
changed CV29 to have it operate in the reverse to "normal" direction...bit 0
= 1...giving it a value of dec 55. Hmmm. Still runs in the wrong direction.
Nooo problem. I reset it to factory. I then tested it and it runs as engine
#3. And, it moves in the correct position. Great! Now I program it to #51.
Uh oh...still runs in the wrong direction. Help.

Bill,

You must be using Q2Upgrade 1.11.0.0 or earlier.
Install Q2Upgrade 1.12.0.0 from
http://qsisolutions.com/products/q-programmer.html

I just downloaded the 5050-481.zip file from the QSI Solutions site.
The extracted q2 file loads correctly with Q2Upgrade 1.12.0.0
but not with 1.11.0.0. With the latter, I get an error message saying
"expected Q2OP_END_CVV_DATA" at byte 121.

Yes both of the "problem" engines respond correctly to functions like F1 and F2.

I tried using the value of 128 you suggested in my F7, and the engine responded with the word "reset" after I entered the value in CV 56.

I will forward the information to the 2 FP7 owners for them to try

Thank you for your prompt response.

It seems like I have used the other value for CV49 before and it worked so I assume it must have something to do with which version of the software is in the chip

Tom,

I have 2 friends whose FP7's act like they are in disconnect mode (sound but no
movement) but don't respond to double pressing F6 or receiving the reset
instructions from changing the 3 CV's listed on Tony's site. <<<

Do these FP7's respond to any function keys, such as the horn (F2) or
bell (F1)?

If your friends have access to a Analog DC layout, do they run without
problem there?

As an experiment I tried to reset the F7 I have here at the house by writing new
values to the 3 CV's but mine wouldn't reset either
CV49=110, CV50 = 255, CV 56 = 113 <<<

Try CV49=128.
