Re: Sound for Genset

Excellent news, Josh!! Whenever Atlas gets the Gensets out I'll put in a Quantum Rev. with a switcher set and wait to load up the Genset sound when you get it ready.

(3) Set CV53.5.1 to "74" This specifies that F3 control the Reverse Light in NFF/NFR. (4) Set CV55.73.0 to "0" or "2". This specifies that the Reverse Light be OFF "0" or ON "2" at powerup. Genset for a speaker. I expect that most of the body shell will be filled with the motor, drive and weight since the hood height is relatively low. Placing sound in a switcher is always a balance between the sound components and pulling capability. May need to opaque the windows and place the speaker in the cab. Roger Thomas Barry wrote:

We are planning on recording a Genset in the very near future. We'll need to work out a new firmware set for it due to the special way that the prime mover works but it is something that we're working on. Thanks, Josh Shedaker QSI Solutions Barry wrote:

I'll second the request! Atlas is bringing out the Gensets and we need sound! So, if QSI puts together a sound set, I'll be buying QSI decoders. Otherwise, I'll buy LokSounds and start rolling my own.

Is that 51 a long or short address? I tried both. HOWEVER...success! I used Programming on the Main and simply programmed CV 1 to 51 and...voila!...it worked. I had been using the program track following the NCE manual. BTW, my NCE controller apparently never received any identification info from the decoder. Maybe that confused the poor controller...who knows. I suppose it's a bit like the weather. Years ago when I experienced temperatures of, say, 14, I knew it was cold. I didn't concern myself too much with WHY it was cold. Ain't standards nice? Mike Brock

Mike,

Upon further investigation, what I said in my previous message on this topic is not entirely correct. We didn't include the Dynamic Brake Fans records in ALL firmware when the OEM requested no Dynamic Brake Fans sounds. In particular, none of the 133 firmware has Dynamic Brake Fans records. You can determine this yourself by trying to retrieve or have the loco speak out the value of CV52.28. The CV is not supported by 133 firmware. But, if you are interested in upgrading your SW8's with 133 firmware that does support Dynamic Brake Fans Sounds, submit a request to QSI Solutions and we will build new 133 firmeware to satisfy the request. Dynamic Brake Fan sounds
g_pruss
Mike,
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
When an OEM requests that the firmware for a model like a switcher not have Dynamic Brake Fan sounds, we now merely set the default Dynamic Brake Fan volume (CV52.28) to "0". However, up to several years ago we removed the Dynamic Brake records from the firmware. So if you have recent firmware for the LL SW8, such as 133-0v7-40-6, the firmware does have Dynamic Brake Fan records, and you can activate these sounds by setting CV52.28 to "11". If your SW8 firmware is several years old, then the firmware may not have Dynamic Brake Fan records. If that is the case, the solution is to upgrade your SW8's to the most recent 133 firmware. You must be using Q2Upgrade 1.11.0.0 or earlier. Install Q2Upgrade 1.12.0.0 from http://qsisolutions.com/products/q-programmer.html I just downloaded the 5050-481.zip file from the QSI Solutions site. The extracted q2 file loads correctly with Q2Upgrade 1.12.0.0 but not with 1.11.0.0. With the latter, I get an error message saying "expected Q2OP_END_CVV_DATA" at byte 121. Gerry Pruss QSI

Yes both of the "problem" engines respond correctly to functions like F1 and F2.
I tried using the value of 128 you suggested in my F7, and the engine responded with the word "reset" after I entered the value in CV 56. I will forward the information to the 2 FP7 owners for them to try Thank you for your prompt response. It seems like I have used the other value for CV49 before and it worked so I assume it must have something to do with which version of the software is in the chip Tom in Texas
