Does anyone know what flashing head lights indicate when Q1V7 decoder equipped loco is put on life track.
I know in a TSUNAMI it means a short in the installation, but this is a LL P2K E8 that the day before was running well and the next day is dead except for HL flashing at 1” pulse?

So did your programmer burn out, or are you just looking for a new one? Are you willing to pay close to $100?

Greg

Jin,
I haven't been in contact with them for a long time, there seems to be only one person and maybe gone for a while and with Covid who knows.

Al,  Thanks for the information.  I have been to the QSI website a dozen times and never noticed the phone number.  I guess that 's what senility does for you.  Thanks again.  I will give them a call today..   Jim Nilles

Pardon the cross posting to all sound user groups but I’m seeking opinion from the people who have actually heard the prime mover sound in the Doodlebug?

How do I contact qsi regarding purchase of a new programmer?

John - the answer might depend on ‘when’.  Many were re-engined with diesels later in life.  One assumes that you are asking about early distillate engines?

Q1a sound decoder problem -P2K GpP9i

Alex Stanojevic

Hello,

One of my P2K locos with QSI Q1a sound decoder is failing in operation.

The sound gets distorted as soon as system is powered up. When the metal chassis is touched distortion amplifies.

After a while being powered locomotive loses address and it does not react to increasing speed steps.

It appears that the file inside flash RAM is corrupt. My NCE reports short circuit.

Does QSI have replacement boards for P2K models. Would Kelly Dorf be able to repair my QSI board?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Alex

Group,

I picked this up on the O-scale site, I have no need for it so I am interested in selling it. Please contact me off list at edsauers@gmail.com to make a offer if interested.

The seller defined it as removed from a Sunset GP7 before using it.

Please review the attached picture so you know what you would be getting.

Would prefer not to ship outside the US.

Thanks

Re: Decoder pinout

John Burkhardt

Erik,

It does not match anything that I have here with me so can't really tell you anything about the pin out on that decoder, yet since the decoder is still in the loco and all plugs still in their sockets surely you can "ring" each wire out to with a VOM and/or follow a wire to its physical connection like motor wheels, etc?

Added 2 pics in "SD40-2 decoder pinout".  One shows the caps relocated to light-stand at rear.
Thanks  Erik

John, you are still not understanding...

You have listed everything except what I am asking about.

Were you able to read my page? if not, please email me greg@... and I will send an email that the link will work for you.

I added pictures to my site:  CLICK HERE

I really hate to copy sections of my site, as there is an entire page covering the whole situation...

here are the instructions to read the PROGRAMMER FIRMWARE VERSION (not the CV Manager software version which is what you keep showing)

Firmware version/upgrading

After installation, you should check for upgrade of the firmware in the programming "dongle" at least when you get one. It's in a really weird place in the programming software.

  • right click on the upper left of the title bar of the Quantum Upgrade window  (Q1 or Q2), right on the words "Q2Upgrade"
  • Yes, there is nothing up there, but when you do it, you get a menu you cannot get any other way.
  • There's a selection: "Quantum Programmer...", click that, and then you get another menu.
  • Click "retrieve firmware version".. you will then see the version in your dongle.
  • Beneath that, there's a box that says "Upgrade firmware to version xxx"... if your firmware is older, then do the upgrade.

The firmware version as of 2021 is 2.0.5

Hope this works...

Re: Unable to read Mfg ID, Status = 1

Greg, In message 18866 I stated what I get when RH click on the bar the select properties:

Quantum 1a Firmware Update Application

Version 1.5.0.0

December 29.2009

And

Quantum 2 and 3 Firmware Update Application

Version 2.5.0.9

April 18.2014

And

CV Programmer

Version 2.5.0.90

April 20.2014
