I would like to reuse a chip I previously had in a reed switch equipped locomotive and was programmed with a Q1A sound file

The new locomotive has a volume pot and I would like to put in the new Q2 package so I have the option of selecting a different horns, etc. 

Will writing the new file do a complete overwrite of the chip or do I need to go through another step to remove the reference to the reed switch?
