QDX External Clock Reference Interface Board

Paul WB6CXC (tech-blog: wb6cxc.com)

I have decided to make some of the external clock reference interface boards for the QDX, both the direct and the clock-multiplier versions.  Also I will have replacement QDX back-panels so we won't have to drill a new hole in the existing QDX panel.

The direct interface accepts a 25 MHz clock (from a Bodnar GPSDO, or perhaps Glenn's (N6GN) upcoming budget GPSDO.  The multiplier version includes a PLL chip that accepts a 5 or 10 MHz reference and generates the 25 MHz clock required by the QDX.  If all goes well these should be available in a couple of weeks.  See my wb6cxc.com blog for more details.

"Turn Island Systems" is my "company".  Not much going on there though -- for the moment it's just me and a friend messing around.

I have just shipped from my first run of these boards,  and should be getting feedback on the success of the modification pretty soon.  Nine "Clock Multiplier" boards (10 MHz input) went out, and eight "Direct" boards (25 MHz input), as well as a replacement back-panel with each board.  I still have some Direct boards available, and some un-filled requests for the Multipliers, so I will be having another batch fabbed and assembled soon (I do the final assy and testing).

If you want more details, I have posted a "User's Guide" for these kits on my Turn Island Systems website: https://turnislandsystems.com/qdx-external-clock-reference-interface/

Neat project, wish I had a use case. 🤓

Can you point us to “ Glenn's (N6GN) upcoming budget GPSDO”? That also sounds interesting, though I have a Bodnar GPSDO somewhere.

Here's a link to Glenn's project.  I'm not sure of the state of this: http://sonic.net/~n6gn/OSHW/Reference.html

Hi! How can I buy one or two? I would love to try it on QDX high bands and low bands!
