Does anybody know?

Dear members.
Does anybody know if the 160M QCX+ will also tune the 220M band and the 630M band if the T1 transformer is wound for those bands? Anyone else experimenting in this area? I have ordered a 160M QCX+ to use in my WA5DJJ QRSS ALL BAND GRABBER receiver to upgrade my 30M QCX+ with a upconverter that I use on 160M now. But stretching this technology into the bands under the US Broadcast bands in the USA.
I guess the really determining question to make this happen is will the software support tuning the SI5351 oscillator to support operation on these bands. Can this be done With future software updates?
Thank you for your time and thought.
Take care and have fun. QRSS is a blast, even at mW’s

Hello David 160m QCX+ requires the use of a 12MHz reference crystal to get the Si5351A to produce a quadrature output frequency low enough for 1.8MHz operations. This won't work down to 630m or 2200m bands. So right now 630m and 2200m are impossible or QCX. Theoretically the firmware could be altered to support 630m and 2200m, there ARE ways to make Si5351A do quadrature down that low. It would probably need some iron changes in the output stages. It would need some experiment. It could be done but I am not sure how much demand there would be for a CW transceiver for 630m or 2200m? I might be more likely some time in future to try and make a low bands QDX covering 80/160/630m. I think the 1N4007 "PIN" diodes wouldn't work on 2200m so that would be a hard limit; though a 2200m mono-band QDX could work. 73 Hans G0UPL http://qrp-labs.com On Mon, Jan 3, 2022 at 6:09 PM David R. Thanks, Hans. I figured there was some reason why the 160M unit wouldn't tune down there. I will be happy with 160M for now.
Take care and have fun. My friend gave me his QDX to build and use since I didn't make the cut. It was one of the first versions. It works really great. The receiver is awesome. I have it running on 40M JS8CALL and it has been on and running for about 4 weeks now. It is all you told me it would be and more. I just sits on my raspberry pi and talks away. Looks like you got a winner. 73 Dave WA5DJJ |
