U3S fw 3.12 no heartbeat no cal
sebo82@...
Hi,
I have a problem with my ultimate 3s. I am owner of a clock and an ultimate 3skit. The clock shows gps data and the 1pps signalis blinking. Both are connected via cable. The U3s has no Heartbeat symbol and shows always cal in thesecond line in the display. the settings are: wspr 10.140.200 Frame SET is 10 10 gps mode 2 009,600 gps info check 0 1 cal step time 10 120 park 000,000,000 sys freq 20,000,000 ref freq 27,104,000 The time comes after minutes alone. Can somebody explain what i am doing wrong ? Thanks a lot 73 Sebo de DL7LE

Frame at 10 10 looks suspicious. Try a start time of zero and frame 10 to see if that works.

Thank you for your answer.
I have set FRAME START to 00 10 . Than came ERROR : 0 (FRAME START)
What should i do ?

Stick on 10 10 until you get it working, tweak the timing later,
but keep to even numbers. 10 12 works fine for me.

Thank you M0ORE,
10 10 doesnt work.
Only seeing CAL . The Beacon is on since yesterday. There is no calibration.

Hi Sebo, If yes, then check 1PPS and DATA lines to U3S are correct.

1PPS Signal is there. After a while the time is the same like the clock. But there is no heartbeat an Cal is even there.
When sending 10.140.200 the real transmitting frequency is 10.101.780 Mhz.
What is going wrong ?

Hi Sebo,
no heartbeat means u3s not seeing 1PPS signal used in CAL. No CAL means tx frequency will be in error. You need to trace 1PPS signal is getting to u3s and find bad connection. Do not run clock and u3s from same qlg1 at the same time. 73 Ken g4apb

Hi Set a value in the park frequency, I use 27.065 MHz, my first walkie talky was in the frequency in the 60's! CH 9 CB

Check if the 1PPS 2ignal gets through the MCU at pin 28. Maybe it is just a wiring issue between the GPS module and the main board assembly.
A oscilloscope or even a simple analog voltmeter can be used for this. 73 de Jakob, AA0JR

1PPS Signal is there at the mcu. Connecting the QLG only to the clock its allright. Connecting the QLG to the Ultimate 3, there is nothing. 1PPS ant DATA are at the MCU.
I decided to flash the mcu.
I have the firmware downloaded and i have a isp programmer.
Which software ca i use to get the firmware on the chip ?

Before I did a reflash, I would try a system reset ( see page 41 in operation instructions).

Ur reference frequency is a tad high?
27.104?. 27.004.500 would be closer, maybe its a typo....

The 1PPS is not used in the clock other than to flash the heartbeat, purely a visual thing, you can edit the line to get rid of it.

Do you get the longitude on the clock? Is the clock and GPS units in same box and U3S in another box? Are you using sending the NEMA data and the 1PPS on the same
cable from the clock / GPS to the U3S?

When connecting the GPS to the Clock there is a longitude and a heartbeat.
Connecting the GPS to The beacon there is nothing. no GPS data like longitude or a heartbeat. I have tried out different settings in ref freq. I have tried out several settings and spend much time but there is no success. I have resetet it 3 times. It is asif the beacon dont recognize there is a gps connected. But i measured the same signals at the mcu as at the connector . So i had the idea to reflsh the atmega. But i have no idea what a program can write the hex file to the atmega. i have a usb isp cable towrite the chip when is in the beacon an the beacon is turned on and the lpf board is disconnected. 73

Sorry i forgot im using an external antenna. the gps board is lying outside the box.

Can I assume that "The beacon" is the U3S? Until you see the heartbeat and Long / Lat data on the display, you will not see any calibration taking place. The heartbeat and NEMA data ( Lat / long / date / time / Alt) are
all set to show on alternating lines on the display and I don't
think the display lines can be changed by the user. ( I may be
wrong in this but others will confirm) What are you seeing on the
U3S display? When the U3S is first powered on, after the initial splash screen
showing the version number, the heartbeat and NEMA data will
appear. If it doesn't then either the data is not reaching the
processor or the processor is damaged. It is strange that both
1PPS and NEMA data are missingTo get the calibration to take
place, the default setting of Cal(Step Time ) must be changed.
page 15/16 of the handbook refers but I suspect you have done
this. As I said before, the first step is to get the display
showing heartbeat and data.
