I am building my second clock and would like to use 4 line display. I would appreciate information on a suitable display--Model/part number and source.

Hi Bob,

Very nice case for the 4-line display. Did you make it? If it is available online I’d appreciate the link or any addl info. Many thanks.

Jim,

Hi!  Case was designed by me using a great 3D printing file from Thingiverse.com.  https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2938921.

See attached photos of the case in early  stages before wiring components.

Final build included a micro usb port along with the 12v input to Buck converter.  This way I could power the clock using a portable USB Power Bank or a 12v DC supply.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me anytime...:))

Jim,

If you have the time, you can get these pretty inexpensively out of China. I've ordered a couple and they work and look great. Do a search for '20x4 lcd module'. You can sort by price, low to high, or even specify if you want to buy from a seller in the U.S.

Ron, Jim:

Terry King has a bunch of Arduino-related stuff as well as displays:

While not the cheapest, he has lots of info about what he sells and sample code you can use to experiment with. His 20x4 displays are about $10, but support the I2C interface so they use fewer I/O pins. Plenty of info on it if you're not sure about I2C (which is supported by the Arduino family of processors).

While perhaps not the cheapest stuff on the planet, you'll be supporting someone who stands behind what they sell and genuinely wants to be helpful.

Thanks to all who responded to my request on 4 line display .

Is the bezel size the same twixt the 16x2 and 20x4 displays?  I notice the 20x4 seems to have much smaller font, so is this the case?

I wouldn't want to move to the 4-line display if I can't use my current case, which is the QRPLabs clock case.

No The 20X4 display is wider and taller.

To my knowledge, 20x4 (60mm×99mm) and 16x2 (83mmx35mm) are very different sizes.
