New U3S WSPR setup questions

John

I have U3S milti band working well on the zero band 80M  frame 20 02. All seams to be working well.
I plan to also have 40, 30, 20, 15, 10 meters. corresponding bands are 0, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
To match the band hopping settings of WSJT-S I need a frame statement for each band.
The listed start seconds offset in each hour - meters are 00-160, 02-80, 04-60, 06-40, 08-30, 10-20, 12-17, 14-15, 16-12, 18-10
As I will not have 160,60,17,12 meters, this should provide many 120 seconds slots for calibrations.
I can see that I need to set the TSX option to 6 or more but I do not understand how each band can have a corresponding Frame start setting.
Can someone point me to the proper reading?

Hi John,

I see what you want to do, but not sure that the WSPR band hopping is strictly scheduled or intended to be like that in WSJT-X? (but I have not used band hopping much, so I don't know).  Anyway, there is just one Frame Start setting, then the U3S will transmit each programed 'mode' sequentially, and only calibrate once at the end.  One way to put WSPR on those specific bands in those specific time slots is to insert 'dummy modes' for the unwanted bands/time slots to 'use up' that time.  Here are the particular parameters required to achieve that ...

mode 0 - 80m WSPR, band 0
mode 1 - dummy in place of 60m (e.g. 2m WSPR, band 0 ... i.e. 2m WSPR into the 80m LPF, so there is no RF output)
mode 2 - 40m WSPR, band 5
mode 3 - 30m WSPR, band 4
mode 4 - 20m WSPR, band 3
mode 5 - dummy in place of 17m (e.g. 2m WSPR, band 0 ... i.e. 2m WSPR into the 80m LPF, so there is no RF output)
mode 6 - 15m WSPR, band 2
mode 7 - dummy in place of 12m (e.g. 2m WSPR, band 0 ... i.e. 2m WSPR into the 80m LPF, so there is no RF output)
mode 8 - 10m WSPR, band 1
(don't worry about the BS170's transmitting 2m energy into the 80m LPF, the output power on 2m is only about 50mW, so no problem with the high SWR resulting in that 50mW dissipated as heat).

TXS - 8 (0 - 8 = 9 bands)

Frame Start - 20 02

Cal (Step Time) - 01 40 (or whatever time you like up to about 110)

According to the Frame Start parameter, the U3S will start to transmit on 80m at minute 02 and step through the bands and dummy modes until 10m WSPR starts at minute 18.  At around minute 20 the U3S will calibrate and be ready to go with 80m WSPR again at minute 22 in the next 20 minute frame.

Have fun!

Thank you Bob. I will make those changes Monday.
Too bad I can't use those slots for the receiver.

Hi John,

Using 2m for 'dummy modes' was just an example, indeed using RX in the 'dummy mode' will work ... and be far more sensible!  Keep in mind that time slot 00 to 02 (160m) is still taken for the calibration, so in the 20 minutes you'll have 6 x 2 minute transmissions, 3 x 2 minute RX periods, and what ever calibrate time you like within the last 2 minutes of the 20 minute Frame loop.

I just tested it here in a shorter form on my U3S (Frame Start = 12 02) with modes programmed for 40m, RX, 20m, RX, 30m followed by calibrate  ... and the slots step just fine with RX in the 'unwanted' 2 minute periods.

Bob, just 15 min ago I found the RX mode and coded my void slots for 20 M rx, and now just reading this email. I am waiting for the top of the hour to watch the sequence.
Wednesday is schedule to set the TX bias to the correct level. I am starting with 3 BS-170.
I think I will set the scope across the dummy load. See if all the filters are working OK
