"Well 40m is essentially hopeless during the day anyway, unless you're packing a half kW and an antenna tower that needs a flashing red beacon on top." Backpeddle much?

I can generally make SSB contacts during the day, on 40m (checking into a net) of about 500 miles. That's nothing to sniff at for ~5W on a end fed random wire on a useless band :p

So contests are actually very helpful in this regard. Last weekend was amazing for testing out QRP.

I didn't say anything about a band being "dead"; that's up to the people who use it or don't. The only thing that's "dead" is the horse that gets dragged around when discussing it ;-) I'm simply refer

If everyone is listening and no one is calling CQ, then yup the band is dead! Funny how the bands seem to come alive during a contest, and shut down right after! Dave

Gee, and I work daytime nets at low power SSB on 40... Maybe the 67Ft wire 32ft up works. Just likely people telling me 10M is dead... 12 contacts Saturday not contesting just SSB QSOs all over the pl

I believe I figured the key issue,. It was a simple fix, short in the cord. The static noise issue, just the atmosphere I'd assume. It sounded normal early this morning but it got worse as the day mov
