Re: Substitute for BS170?
Should all four finals be matched in gain like some of us did with vacuum tubes?

Re: Adding CW support for QDX?
The ATS series by Steve KD1JV starting with ATS3 uses a clever CW shaping circuit producing a trapezoid envelope with timing independent from the power supply

Re: Update - QDX v3 - Serial Port Driver problem
ALAN AND EVERYONE:
SUCCESS!!!
FOLLOWED ALL STEPS, LOADED STM (2014) SERIAL PORT DRIVER, (DON’T KNOW IF 32 OR 64 BIT) AND JUST GOT A GREEN LIGHT ON CAT TEST!!!
Thank you all very much,
Howard

Re: Removing solder from holes
I have had my Teledyne thermal stripper for decades and it is still doing its job flawlessly. It is still the best (only?) way to strip PTFE- or Raychem-insulated wires and will not nick any wire

Re: Update - QDX v3 - Serial Port Driver problem
Alan,
I tried first to delete my unused Comm Ports. (That didn't work).
I will try your suggestion and post the results later today.
This is what I'm currently seeing in Device Manager:

Re: Update - QDX v3 - Serial Port Driver problem
Howard
Have you used my way of installing the driver?
If so you should see the QDX in Device Manager.
Boot the computer.
Open device Manager.
Open Ports (COM and LPT)
Plug in the QDX USB.
Power up

I am not sure whether WSJTX on Linux / Chromebook would work, I tried some audio applications and there was some stuttering in the receive audio.
However the following web based terminal works nicely

Re: Substitute for BS170?
Steve KD1JV used 2N7000 FETs in his earlier ATS series transceivers. They were much more fragile than BS170s. Don't use 2N7000s as BS170 substitutes.

Re: Coax between the rig and antenna preference
depends on what you call "in the field". If you have to cary it around RG 8 would be heavy.
For that length I would use RG 58 especially for 40 m On 15m RG 58 may become already a bit lossy. I have

Re: Update - QDX v3 - Serial Port Driver problem
Yes, some 64 bit systems make it hard to install a driver that is not listed.
But the first thing is to try by dismissing the warnings. If that does not work then it gets more complicated:-)

Others suggested here on the list that Q7 failed due to shorted finals. Frankly I would expect the excess current draw to be much higher than 40mA or so with a shorted final FET, but it may be

Re: "blown QDX"
The same happened to me yesterday. The maximum Q7 gate voltage +-20V was likely exceeded and the FET gate to source shorted. Removing the FET and replacing it with a bit of wire fixed it.
