QCX Mini manual I have says 32 ohms. Probably, most audio amplifiers in most units are better than spec. But, that's what the spec says

I agree with WB8YYY that expensive headphones make no sense when it comes to a QRP radio with a 700Hz CW tone. After all you're not trying to listen to a Mahler symphony!

Do you have a keyer device configured in N1NM? Like a K1EL keyer? Keying doesnt happen thru the CAT connection

My QCX-mini has been very forgiving regarding the headset in use. I tried several cheap ones. I made a stereo jack to mono plug adapter so I would not worry about shorting something when inserting and

Thanks for the advice.
I had finally devoted some time to diagnose the problem. Checked the gating voltages as indicated - they worked appropriately for 20/30, 40, and 80.

I have a dozen or so SMA attenuators I bought for 6 to 10 dollars each on ebay. See image below:
They are rated to 6 GHz, and rated power is 2 watts. I haven't swept every one over the full 6 GHz
