A trick you might want to try is a 1/4 wave wire attached to the QCX ground. A 1/4 wave wire looks like a ground to the RF.

Thanks. Neat idea. Would work on some labels too as if the toy, etc., is encased in plastic the heat gun warps the plastic when removing the price tag.

For the newer guys reading this you might explain what “tappets” are. I still have a couple sets of feeler gauges around here someplace for tuning up my old VW engines. Ha!

When we modified DVD players we used to heat the first ic pin up at one end and then slip a feeler gauge (the type used to set tappets) under the pin, then heat the next pin up and slip the gauge

That works just fine for the parts it's designed for, and a METCAL is the top of the line for conventional soldering equipment. It's more than most ham builders need, but use it if you've got it!
