Just put a piece of wire into the antenna socket and place it near the crystal. Tune around 20Mhz, usually about +4KHz.
Sometimes a counter will stop oscillation.
Sorry for the wrong link although it

Re: Alignment process
Giulio
The builtin test circuit for receive alignment is amazing, don't deprive yourself its enjoyment. The only caution is watching it rescale the lcd display, but it shows a different numeric level.

Re: 0.03w RF output, 1w at transistor drains, Help?

And remember - trying to measure watts at the FET finals is meaningless as the waveform there is square. Meaningful RF readings can be found only downstream of a properly functioning LC circuit (LPF).

Re: Will installing the IC socket backwards cause the processor from failing to boot?

Yes.
I tried powering it off a battery and a working power supply.
I tried the approach of listening to the oscillator but I didn't hear anything on my SDR but this could also be due to a bad antenna

The suggested links were for the U3s. Look here for QCX. http://www.qrp-labs.com/qcx/qcxtrouble.html#blocks
It would help if you could provide feedback on what you find as you follow the steps

QSO-PARTY TIP
Tune up and down the designated freq will yield more QSOs
Reguardless of TX power, the RX path is most important
Not just QCX but commercial rigs too
TIP ... get to know your CW filter

yes that is correct. The dimple on the IC matches the dimple on the board and the manual. So I can verify this is correct.

And the IC is in 'backwards' in the socket, so that it is correctly orientated to the board (forget the dimple)??
