Install WinAvr. Launch it, that will install the missing .dll thingy and AvrDude / Dudess will be happy. I too sun windows 10 Pro.

It can be done. However, you are going to have an impedance bump
at the connection between the two. This may or may not make a difference.
It certainly un-neatens the job.

no load on the 3.3 volt rail, and it didn't occur to me to try the scope. I'll rig up a load resistor and hang the scope of it.

I should have said I haven't been able to find a version of libusb0.dll that my 64 bit version of Windows 10 will install due to claiming it contains a virus. Haven't been able to find a download

What is the *exact* error message you are getting ?
At the moment you are saying the equivalent of "My car won't start" (at least you have given the Make, Year & Model, that's a good start ;)

Did you try using Zadig to update the driver? I have been using a Win7 machine to do my updates but may have to try this on my 10 Pro64 machine. I just watched a video of someone updating
