That *does* sound fun and very satisfying.

I wonder whether you’ve ever tried or considered trying a “huff ‘n’ puff” stabiliser on the original VFO?

Thanks, Colin!  I just printed a pair, using your ver4 file.  Very nice, slipped right on the QCX-mini.  These were the second and third things printed on the new printer--first thing was the test dog file..

(Btw--another market obviously suffering from supply chain issues evidently is the 3D printer world...took me 2 days to track down a firmware file for the "new compatible" cpu they are using (in a Ender 3 Pro) that supports their CR touch add on..  Anyhow, github to the rescue....)

Re would you need switched bandpass filters for the receiver?

I think that depends upon where you live.  I live in the country and there aren't any high power RF stations nearby.  I run a QRP-Labs receiver with the switched lowpass filters instead of bandpass filters and use the same lowpass filters for transmitting.  The bandpass filter position on the receiver is just shorted to pass the signal.

If you live in the city near broadcast stations or have an Amateur station nearby you would probably want to use the bandpass filters for receiving and lowpass filters for transmitting.   I am not sure if you could fit all that into the case made for the U3S ( U3S, receiver module, polyphase module, switched lowpass filters, switched bandpass filters ).  Another issue would be the current demand on the ATMega pins to drive the relays.  You may need to add a relay driver circuit to drive 2 relays.

Hi Bryan. Theoretically, you should not need to calibrate the Ref Frequency more than once when using it for CW. It doesn't drift enough to tell the difference on CW ... unless you have Perfect Pitch. Do it as often as you like. It doesn't hurt anything and probably isn't necessary until you do a factory reset for some reason ... Have fun ... 73 ... Ron

That sounds worth the extra $11... I better stop asking questions, before my bill increases any more :-)

...but I never was very good at that... so, re: the switched lowpass kit, would it work on the receiver board as well as the transmitter? assuming that if I went that way, I'd need 2?

I hope this thread is helpful to others who might be interested, but even if not, I fully appreciate all the help of this group, thanks!W

The polyphase network will take the place of running an SDR program on your computer.  For example you could use the polyphase network and run  mono audio into WSJT and decode WSPR.   Or you could run IQ stereo audio into a stereo soundcard, run a program like HDSDR to decode, run the output of that into a virtual audio cable program, and the output of the virtual audio cable into WSJT and decode WSPR.

Yes on your question about the band pass filter and you might want to take a look at the ultimate switched lowpass kit.

For a second there I pictured Hans cutting his throat because of the global chip shortage, or maybe due to too many "when will the QSX be done" inquiries!

Hi Julian

The reference would be clear to any parents of small kids who had just endured a week's school half-term holiday this last week, and in order to somehow survive the ordeal, yet deal with copious quantities of work duties, said parents had placed said offspring in front of Netflix to binge watch all 8 moves practically back-to-back...

Don't ask me how I know.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Seems that while the TXCO isn't strictly necessary for hf, it also doesn't sound like too bad an idea, so it's "in" :-)

Re: the receiver option, is the additional polyphase network option to improve decodeability?

I think I'll go 10m, since it appears pretty easy to change my mind later, with just a bpf kit swap. Is that correct?

Thanks again!W
