I didn't say only QRP Labs. Why would you say that?

if the old uP (T 1.00g) is cooked and I put it into new fully working v5 board all I will get is no display. New board should still be ok. Is my thinking correct?
Marek,

As Wes has suggested compare the voltages on the two boards first.

Jeff,

gives the single row tests.
If nothing is found I'd suggest the soldering is checked with a hot iron.

Why would the winding of toroids be a problem only for QRP Labs filter kits and not for *any* project that has toroids to wind?
Bill,

Yes, The QRP Labs LPFs and BPF use standard designs.
It seems to me that very often that when I have wound toroid coils for any project the inductance is a little high. Possibly due to the ferrites being at the high end of their spec.
A tested-accurate inductance meter may help otherwise it is trial and error as detailed in the assembly instructions.

It is possible that the old uP just needs to be reflashed.  Try that first  ...

No, I didn't examine Q. I took the default values. I was focused on inductance values in the model to try to determine from my measured S21 gain trace why one of my filters didn't perform well. For the QRP Labs filter kits winding torroids appears to be a source of problems.

Nice work Bob, one quick question. How did you arrive at the values of Q?  Sorry, two questions. Did you try some plots with different values of Q?

Many years ago in my college days we learnt how to calculate Q and then measure in a practical situation but long forgotten now.

Thanks guys,

I will check voltages on the old board first over the weekend. However,  if the old uP (T 1.00g) is cooked and I put it into new fully working v5 board all I will get is no display. New board should still be ok. Is my thinking correct?

Re: QCX 1.05 WSPR startup

N3MNT

From U3S Manual.  Same subroutine in QCX

When first switched on, a GPS unit powered from the same power supply may not yet have
achieved 3D lock. In this situation the time will likely be wrong (starting at 00:00:00). If GPS Mode is
non-zero, the transmission sequence does not start until a valid time decode from the GPS. If there
is no valid time decode by the time “Frame” minutes have elapsed, the system will give up waiting
for a valid decode and start transmitting regardless

And i know something simular happens on the U3s.
so would it be the same answer?

QCX 1.05 WSPR startup

Dean Smith

I've set up the QCX+ to do wspr.
The gps in normal CW,clock mode showing, sets up in around a second or two.. warm start!.
When beacon is selected, and you bail out the firmware goes about its business.
If you attempt to switch off QCX, then repower it up, auto wspr!
it does not set the clock first WSPR cycle tho :( next round it is then set!
bug or feature???

Nearly all black and white printers already do grayscale for color files. The problem is that the gray values for the colors may be indistinguishable; for example, some of the resistor color codes likely have the same or nearly the same gray value. Red text, however, should not look identical to black text.

These days I do my building with the manual displayed on a monitor that is on an arm above my building desk. I can make everything nice and large and easy to read that way, and don't have to find room on the bench for paper. But it does have the downside of not being able to check off the steps!

When printing a colour document on a mono (B/W) printer there should be a printer setting that permits colour to be represented by grey scale. Perhaps the setting on your device is print only black and white?

Just saying in case will help.

Re: U3S Latest Firmware has no .eep #smoked #firmware #u3s

I had written the firmware V3.12a.hex using the V3.09.eep and all seems to work fine (using AVRDude).
Now it is a good piece of mind to know that the eep is not needed anymore as it sounds that the main program is now taking care of the defaults.

Thanks for the feedback as I was struggling to find any comment on the .eep file in this forum. But now it is documented with this thread.

For Sale: QCX 40m Assembled and QCX 30m kit

Al Clark

For sale is an assembled 40m QCX in the BaMaTech case, vintage June 2018, firmware version 1.02b.  I really enjoyed building this and have only had it one the air twice; works well as expected.  I've built many kits over the years and do more building than operating.  $115 shipped.

Also for sale is a NIB QCX 30m kit, vintage July 2018 (firmware 1.02b; easily updatable) and NIB BaMaTech case.  $100 shipped.  I've moved on to other building projects and don't expect to build this kit any time soon.

$195 for all, shipped.

Need to see if there is a chart showing what power levels I should see at the various pins and components on the U3S.  Just built another and have the dreaded one line of blocks show up.  Already checked the usual suspects - power, crystal, soldering (visually checked so far)...Would like to troubleshoot further.  thanks - Jeff, AC7IJ
