So #85 is QRV now on 17m :-) I just worked DL2BWL (he answered my CQ

There's a bit of "short" propagation on 17m this morning.

I'll be on 18.080 - 18.085 for the next ~20 mins (until midday)

Hi All

Thanks for the updates.

I guess the Kit counter isn’t being updated? as it still shows 184 as next kit to ship! Which is a shame as it does help to build the anticipation!!

Re: Just boxes

Hi . . . "noname" ... "nocall"                               de John VK6JY

Those lit boxes are very well known and they are the default display of all
such LCDs firing up
successfully from cold with their own built in firmware.

Normally the MCU waits a while for that to be completed and starts sending
data to the LCD. That is where we start scratching our heads ... why, where?

Maybe the MCU (328p) is not fully in with all 28 legs etc. Maybe reversed?
If OK then G1FXB's photo request is a good way to look for bad soldering etc.

Check the MCU's crystal oscillator is running in a local RX as a sign of life.
Good luck OM.

no clk = No calibration signal from CLK 2 back to the processor.

Which Si5351 module have you?

Check:-

Voltages correct inc 3.3v +/- say 10%
27MHz Osc running
Don't know if the Si is sufficiently initialised to provide any outputs, but can you see:-
any O/P on CLK0 (Module pin 17)
any O/P on CLK2 (Module pin 19) should be 6.75MHz

The first thing to help yourself, is to take the time to read the troubleshooting guide Hans made.

http://qrp-labs.com/ultimate3/u3trouble.html#squares

If that doesn't help.
Then tell us what you have or have not got. And include a few photographs of the PCB, Top & Bottom.
Many eyes make light work.

A big Thank you!!!

Ah! Txs is on page 8 and 10, and I am trying to follow the settings on page 4,5 +6!!! That parameter needs to be mentioned on page 5.

Sure it can do it!

1. Set Txs to 5 (0-5=6) it is on the screen with 5 parameters on the same screen.
2. Program the 6 positions now available with frequency and what filter to use.
3. Frames 14 3 (the second figure can be even numbers 0-12).

And of course your call , and how many dBm you should indicate to other stations.

U3s drilling template

M0RON

Hi,
I have ordered the U3s with extras last week and would like to know if there is a drilling template available. I have been saving a fudge tin from last Christmas ready for a radio to be fitted inside, the U3s will fit nicely.
Looking forward to building this and getting it on the air.

Band Cycling #chat

Andrew Lenton

I would like my U3S to cycle through

1.     30,10,12,15,17,20  (relays are 0, to 5 in  0=30m, 1=10m, 2=12m, 3=15m, 4=17m, 5=20m, as 10m (highest frequency), must be in position 1. if I read this correctly.)

2.    1 Wait enough time to Cal.

3.    2 Then start over!

4.    3 Can the US3 do this?

5.    4 If so, What do I have to set and where, for this to happen?

Re: Multiple BS170 causing U3S instabilities?

Al Holt

Thanks for all the great tips so far! We US hams have to wait for the FCC to approve our use of the band. So far it's only open to licensed Experimenters. Hopefully approval will come soon.

That's a great looking 300W amp! I need to study David's coil a bit more. Also, ScopeMatch looks like a great solution.

I did a little more testing. The 5V supply is very stable. I tried a LPF for 80 meters and with this U3S build and everything functions correctly even briefly transmitting into 'no load.' The kit is very stable. So, multiple BS170's for the PA running 5V is not really a problem.

Cheers!

Re: Multiple BS170 causing U3S instabilities?

David Bowman <g0mrf@...>

Hi Al.

As Chris commented, you will need some form of matching network for 630m.  The good news is that 135ft should work very well.

If you have a look at the picture about halfway down this page. - http://www.g0mrf.com/630%20p2.htm
you will see my 'ATU' that is used with an antenna very similar to yours. It's just a coil with taps at the bottom to get 50 ohms, and taps at the top to resonate the wire.

Good luck on the band, the new season is just beginning!

Remember that on MF and LF it usual to get the U3S to transmit WSPR reports that give your ERP rather than the output from the transmitter.

Re: RF Power #chat

Exactly if you set 02 00 it will start a new cycle every 2 minutes.
For 6 band you should set it to 14 to give it time to calibrate. The sencond parameter should be an even minute between 0-12.
