Yeah, I often buy full reels of cheap SMT parts. 10K 1% resistors, 0603 package? 5000 for $3.50 (or $3.00 for 5% parts). 2N3904 in SOT-23? 3000 for $28. And those 2N7000's (SOT-23 pkg)? 3000 for $39. I see that LCSC has a few thousand surface-mount BS170s in stock: 5 cents each in qty 100. The SOT-23 thermal specs are no doubt different than for the TO-92 case.
