I've caused my LM1117 to fail too. As it failed short-circuit (it seems they always do) I reduced the power supply to 5 volts to see how bad the damage is ... anything that could work then did. You might want to try the same?
Also there's a thread, "Another QCX mini up and running" that has some very helpful detail of how the regulator can be replaced with a 7805.
