Dave,

Now that the Alpha-9500 is sold and shipped, I have my order for the DX2400L in place.  It will be a while before I receive my Prometheus but anticipation is a significant part of the process.  I can hardly wait though!

I know that for those that are fortunate enough to own the Prometheus, this is preaching to the choir but to those considering a purchase, I just wanted to inform all that I recently purchased a new radio (Kenwood TS-990). Mike was right there with emails and telephone calls to assist with some cabling questions that I had.

Terrific product and even better customer service from the man at the top.

That is great. I been working the Alpha since I got it back to make sure it works before selling. If you know of others want one, send them my way.

Gentlemen,

I absolutely love to hear you sing the praises of the DX2400 and it is very much appreciated. But then again, as you already know, it truly is the best solid state amp ever! Someone should join the AMPS forum and let all those guys who were standing in line waiting for the Yaseu VL2000 know that they could buy the DX2400 Prometheus with the Heavy Duty LINEAR supply, quality US workmanship and PATENT PROTECTED US engineering, along with the Dishtronix great support for almost 1K less than the projected 12K price of the VL2000! In fact, they could have bought one anytime in the last six years! Why wait longer? Why buy a copy when you can buy the real thing from the US company that pioneered the legal limit plus solid state durability specifically for the amateur market, and for less money? Six years is a long time, but we quietly keep making it better any way we can. For example, the original DX2400 heat exchanger was already nearly the size of their entire RF deck, and our improved heat exchanger now shipping has 75% more fine area than our original! Which one would YOU want to run in a contest? You guys who have one already know: DX2400 - accept no substitutes!

To those reading who don't have one, if you are tired of solid state amps that blow up, if you are tired of amps that need constant trips back to the factory for some reason or another, if you want a quality, professional grade instrument that you can depend on, then you need to call me and place an order. You have to wait a while to get one, but ask any of the owners if the wait is worthwhile and see what they say. Also, unlike other manufacturers, I personally do everything I can do to assure that you get what you are expecting, and support you every way I can before and after the sale.

Again, thank you gentleman for the nice comments which definitely are encouraging. For those who are interested, we are restocking some parts and are advised of 12 week lead times which puts us into July deliveries for new orders. The lead will grow longer after Hamvention orders are placed.

I noticed we have a couple of new members. If I or any of the owners can answer questions or assist in any way, please feel free to contact me either here or directly (email good on qrz.com) or post something here. Not a lot posted here as the amp works perfectly with terrific customer support from the owner/designer.

# 31 is on the air.

Gordon Hamilton

Hi everyone. Number 31 arrived at my house this week and is up and running. There are now 2 DX2400's on the same quiet little country street in Langley, BC. Definitely a thing of beauty that could easily be sold by the pound. Another of Mike's "children" has moved to away from Ohio. Very happy so far.

Good luck with the sale. I saw one on qth recently. Not sure if it was yours or someone else's.

Line Voltage (non) Issues

Steven M. \(Mike\) dishop

Greetings Everyone,

Everett, W8ZP had posted here a few months ago about having some line voltage faults. He let me know after Hamvention that it turned out he had some troubles with a floating and intermittent neutral on his incoming line voltage supply, and that now that it is corrected, everything is fine.

It turns out the amplifier was fine, and was just protecting against a faulty incoming power connection.

How about that? I'm surprised his 110V circuits for household wiring wasn't going crazy as the 110V is taken from one side of 220V line to neutral.

I could say something about how good the protection in your amps are, but you already know that. However, for the record, you DO need a good neutral / ground connection on your LPS4800 power supply.

So, I think we are back to 100% satisfaction with everyone.

FLEX 6700 to DX2400 interface box

Al Ludwick / NN4ZZ

If anyone here is considering interfacing their DX2400 to one of the new FLEX 6000 SDR radios, you may be interested in some files I added to the forum. The files depict an interface box to inter-connect the 13 pin DIN connector on the DX2400 to the various connectors on the FLEX6700. It also provides a toggle switch for powering up the DX2400.

They documents are in the FILES section in a folder titled "FLEX 6700 to DX2400 cable box."

The files include:
- a Visio diagrams (multiple tabs) - if you don't have Visio you can download a free viewer.
- some pictures of the adapter box

I also updated my Prometheus web page with some additional notes:

http://www.nn4zz.com/Prometheus.htm

Kirk / K6KAR has his 6700 and one of the DX2400s on order. I have a DX2400 and one of the radios on order. So between us we should get a chance to actually test this out in a month or two.

A big thanks to Mike, Steve/K5FR, George/W2GS for your help in confirming my approach. It would be great if everyone worked together as well as this group.

Regards, Al / NN4ZZ

Re: FLEX 6700 to DX2400 interface box

Hi Al,

Flex TX1 connector would be called by me as "Flex Key Out"
This would connect through the tuner to DX2400 13 pin connector pin 2 which would be labeled DX2400 KEY IN.
Note: Your diagram says something about pulling low to inhibit RF output. This is incorrect. Pulling low will intiatiate the T/R changeover relays.
Following this, pin 7, DX2400 KEY OUT, will pull low to request the transceiver to create power. This is connected to FLEX KEY IN (TXREQ) on your diagram.

The group is here because you took the initiative to create it Al! I'm both happy and grateful that you all enjoy my work.

73-Mike

Mike,
Thanks for the feedback. The wiring was correct but the verbiage was confusing and incorrect. I make the changes on V8 of the diagram posted in the FILES sections.

I also added your "also known as" comments to the FLEX connector names. Although FLEX doesn't use that terminology, it makes it easier to follow when interfacing the DX2400

- TX1 (aka FLEX KEY OUT)
- TR REQ ( aka FLEX KEY IN)

Thanks, Al / NN4ZZ

Will,

Outstanding news.  I'm loving my DX2400L  As you are aware, one of the selling features of the 9500 is their so called "Brick to the key" for 1.5KW.  The DX2400L easily surpasses this and as a matter of fact I have to be careful I don't push my Prometheus well beyond legal limit.  Biggest mistake I made was not purchasing the DX2400L earlier.
