Glenn Hauser logs July 2-3-4, 2018

Glenn Hauser

** ALGERIA [non]. 9620, July 3 at 0610, Qur`an, poor S4-S5. RTA via FRANCE is here for one hour after moving from 9535 the previous hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** AUSTRALIA [and non]. 11900, July 4 at 1301, S5-S7 dead air with flutter, off at 1302 uncovering algo weaker S5-S4. It`s KNX RBA supposed to stop Hindi at 1300, over to KSDA Guam in Khmer from 1300, per HFCC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 11760, July 2 at 1930 on caradio, I`m hearing RHC amid English hour, so punch the code to read out the frequency in Morse --- 11760! Did it again, to be sure. Yes! It`s supposed to be on 15140, which I check a bit later with direct entry into the DX-375, and yes, that transmitter is OFF. Something`s always wrong at RHC. Missed checking what happened July 3; maybe July 4? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1937, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 9554 & 9586 approx., July 3 at 1350, CRI relay`s distorted FMish spurs out of S9+20 9570 are closer to plus/minus 16 kHz than 15. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 11880, July 3 at 2151, surprised to find RHC English underway at S9+20. There is NO English supposed to be on any frequency at this hour; on 11880 just at 23-24, still then as confirmed later. I suppose 11880 transmitter was turned on (how?) early before 2200 French, and plugged into a program feed line inhabited by English, maybe also on a webcast or FM network at 2100? Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA [non]. 7365 // 7335, July 4 at 0624, R. Martí promoting some programming changes as mandated by new OCB director Tomás Regalado, including `Magdalena` from Monday July 9 at 9 pm EDT. To find the program schedule at
https://www.martinoticias.com/radio/schedule/4
you have to pretend you are about to listen to a webcast. Guess what: lunes 9 de julio a a las 21:05: `Puntos de Vista`, not Magdalena (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EGYPT. 9799.7, July 2 at 2231, dead air here, can`t make out any modulation, vs high noise level; so R. Cairo English sesquihour is back on ``9800`` instead of ``9805`` = 9804.7 yesterday. Something`s always wrong at Radio Cairo too (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1937, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA NORTH. 11735, July 4 at 0618, VOK in French but very strange accent and staccato pace. Also fast SAH and CCI from an understation --- except it vanishes when I switch the R75 from Preamp2 to 1 or off. So it`s some kind of overload, certainly nothing stronger on the 25mb to cause that (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 91.7, July 2 at 2008 UT, KOSU is already back on air in time for ATC, following downtime for antenna repair (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Hi Kelly, Glad to hear KOSU back after not too much time lost for the repair. It would be very interesting to see some video or stills of the tower crew at work, or at least what the hole in the antenna looked like, if you could put that on your website. (I`ve looked but haven`t found it if there is anything about it.) Thanks, (Glenn Hauser, Enid, to KOSU, via DXLD)

Hi Glenn, Here are three photos. Notice the small hole in the flange in middle photo. That was causing our issue.
http://www.w4uvh.net/KOSUantennahole.jpeg

My engineer tells me all but two of our lightning rods were still in place and that we just got unlucky. Glad it wasn’t a bigger hole and I was really pleased with Top Hand Tower’s speed and efficiency on this project, allowing us to limit our service interruption at 91.7. Happy 4th (Kelly Burley, KOSU Station Director, via DXLD)

** SUDAN SOUTH [non]. 13810, July 3 at 1540, still no show of new target broadcast allegedly starting July 1, 15-17 UT via BaBcoCk UAE, as checked via UTwene. Mauno Ritola, Finland, says still nothing July 4 at 1515 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY. 11980.034, July 4 at 0410, VOT good S9+20/10 with Turkish music (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U K [non]. 9915, July 4 at 0403, BBCWS news is VG, S9+20/10, could almost pass for a North American service; it`s 250 kW, 315 degrees from MADAGASCAR this hour only for nearby Uganda, Tanzania but overkill USward. 0406 Newsday(?) starts out inviting texts from listeners. Come on, get down to business. 9915 continues at 05-06, but 158 degrees from Woofferton. Besides imaginary Greece at 19-24, BBC at 04-06 are the only 9915 HFCC listings (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1936 monitoring: confirmed UT Tuesday July 3 at 0030 on WRMI 7730, very good. Final broadcast should be Tuesday July 3 at 2030 on WRMI, checked at 2054 when 7780 is JBA but sounds like it could be me, and 5950 is a JBA carrier.

** U S A [and non]. 5830, July 4 at 0628, WTWW-1 is AWOL; neighbor 5935 WWCR remains inbooming. Not heard on day frequency 9475 either. Next check at 1253, 5830 is on with SFAW past 1300, while at 1307, 9475 bears something VP in a tonal Asian language, i.e. KSDA Guam in Mandarin, 13-14 to the northwest (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. CAPITOL STEPS --- Have some good laughs this Fourth with a one-hour special. Just heard it on KGOU, which repeats at 2300 UT:
