** GUAM. 11955, Sept 6 at 2205, nice hallelujah harmonies, 2217
Indonesian talk at S8 to S9+10. KSDA scheduled this hour daily.

12040, Sept 6 at 2218, slightly weaker SE Asian talk; must be
Sundanese as scheduled from KSDA this semihour on days 2467 per
Aoki/NDXC, as this is UT Friday = day 6; otherwise English on 135.

I remain impressed by how well KSDA serves deep North America during
its broadcasts supposedly aimed at SE Asia, both 100 kW at 255 degrees
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY. 9830, Sept 6 at 2206 and 2249 chex, no signal from VOT
English to N America; must be off, as Spain is propagating 9690 very
well. Something`s always wrong at TRT Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7335, Sept 6 at 2247, Radio Martí VG signal as usual, and
barely audible under jamming on 9565, 11930. Meant to check earlier in
day whether any Grimesland NC frequencies were blown off by edges of
Hurricane Dorian, but all OK now (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1998 monitoring: confirmed first
SWBC, Friday Sept 6 at 2200 on WRMI 9955, no upcut, S9-S5; by 2227
weakening to S8-S5 and traces of Cuban pulse jamming beginning to
appear.

Also confirmed UT Sat Sept 7 at 0130 on WRMI 7780, poor vs HLNL.

** U S A. 9330.13v, Friday Sept 6 at 2151, WBCQ is on here at S8 with
hard rock music instead of NOAA Weather Radio relay. Must be gearing
up for AAAWWW. At 2222 the modulation is cutting off and on.

7490.21v, Friday Sept 6 at 2153, `Behaviour Night` music, but too much
noise here to enjoy Sir Scratchy and his ancient tunes.

(7490), UT Sat Sept 7 from 0000, WBCQ webcast of `Allan and Angela
Weiner WorldWide`, since I am busy editing on computer, don`t even try
to hear it on SW. Ramsey calls in almost immediately, and I keep
listening since there is hardly and politix this week, just about the
SuperStation and technology, such as railing against computer
dependence --- keep it out of our transmitters!

But first at 2359 Sept 6, I notice that previous program wrapping up,
radiosermontime.org thinx he will be on WINB 9625 [sic] tomorrow, and
also on WWRB 5050. Clunk, hangs up phone. That weblink does not work.

First, AW makes it clear that he does *not* want to be stuffed
post-mortem, note that Angela! Even if it`s legal in strange Canada.

6160 has been retubed by TimTron, at a cost of tens of thousands of
dollars; and blew 800-amp fuses.

Lack of equipment support: Ampegon that went bankrupt are dicks.
Continental people are dickish.

One guy formerly with Ampegon, RF engineer named Norbert is now here
working on the antenna. Antenna tuning unit is in the tubular sexion.
50 and 100 ohms have to be matched for different frequencies. The ATU
has four caps which cost $18K each. Two coils are ganged together by a
chain, which broke. A special 8-mm chain, hard to replace, but Angela
located one which was shipped in from NC, arrived today. It`s like a
bicycle chain, and lubricated like one. AW went up 40 feet to install
it, and now that is working. Tonight`s show is ``quinta-casting`` on
3265, 5130, 6160, 7490, 9330=backup not SS.

At 0055 looks thru the new issue of Free Radio Weekly, just published,
mentions pirates logged and frequencies, but no dates, times or
credit; including YHWH by me which he thinx is religious --- hee hee,
yeah, anti-Christ, as I often denominate it but not this time. Then to
e-mail. Confirms that 9330 has been relaying NOAA Weather Radio, from
FL, SC, NC, and would do that again if needed. Thinx that Our Father
is responsible for steering Dorian away from US mainland. Prayer until
0104, then plugs 6160 available 24/7 at $35 an hour; or would like to
lease it out full-time.

5130 is a ``loss-leader`` subsidized partially by Larry Will and AW,
now offering a fall pirate special at $10/hour for a minimum of two
hours --- avoid getting busted with a 10-megadollar fine. Some time
also available on 7490, but not 9330 or 3265; finally ends at 0107.

Here`s John Carver`s version: ``Tonight's show started on time on
7490. Allan and Angela in the studio. Opening talk concerned a
statement about wanting to stuff Allan when he died. Allan said no.
First phone call at 0005 from Ramsey, pointing out to Allan that Roy
Rogers had Trigger stuffed when he died. Discussion about having
people stuffed and then one on preserving people's heads after they
died.

There has been some support from the old Ampegon company starting to
trickle through. They've sent an engineer from Germany who has been
helping them adjust the antenna. A chain that is used during the
antenna change broke. Angela found a man in North Carolina who could
duplicate the chain. Was shipped out before the hurricane and Allan
and John had to go forty feet above ground to install the chain. They
had to modify the antenna adjustment plate for the new chain to work
but it's working properly now.

Long discussion about how poorly digital and computerized things work
and how Allan wishes they would be built the old way. Reading of
emails at 0054 beginning with the Free Radio Weekly. Closing prayer at
0101. It was announced that they have a special on airtime on 5130.
Two hour minimum time slot at ten dollars per hour. Program was off
the air at 0106 and then into Brother Stair. Despite the signal
reports this evening I had a poor signal or no signal on the
frequencies I tried. John, Mid-North Indiana`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX

** ANGUILLA. 11775, Sept 5 at 1401, PMS on and strong enough to tell
her modulation is squealing, like WWCR-1, WEWN (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** BAHAMAS. While looking up CAYMAN info at dxinfocentre.com I search
for Bahamabeacons, and find only three listed. All appear to be away
from Hurricane Dorian path so may still be operating, FYI:
526, ZLS, Stella Maris, [Long Island], 500 watts
376, ZIN, Matthew Town, Great Inagua, 400 watts
281, ZSJ, Cockburn Town, San Salvador, 2000 watts
(Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CANADA. 413 kHz, Sept 6 at 0547 UT, ND beacon YHD and dash, which
is 250 watts from Dryden, Ontario. I was tuned to 412-USB.

346 kHz, Sept 6 at 0615 UT, ND beacon YXL and dash, 500 watts from
Sioux Lookout, Ontario; I was tuned to 347-USB. Dozing off, there have
been more below. Glad to hear that not all the Y-stations have been
decommissioned yet (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CAYMAN ISLANDS. 415 kHz, Sept 6 at 0546, my NDB search downward is
off to a good start with CBC, which is 600 watts from Cayman BraC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. 10960, 11070, 11150, Sept 6 at 1355, JBA carriers, all three
on *jammed SOH frequencies per Aoki/NDXC. VP propagation today but
these can hardly be coincidental (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** HAWAII. 10000, Sept 5 at 0550, WWVH YL announcement about MARS
exercises, but now it`s generic, no specifix; ``aloha`` concludes just
in time for next timecheck at 0550:45 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Sept 6 at 0538 during TA carrier search, q.v.,
also one here slightly stronger and steadier which I know is far more
likely to be TP, i.e. R. Kiribati already ~an hour after LSS in the
UT+14 = UT-10 zone (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. Unfortunately awake before 1200 UT Sept 6, I check lowband
for the usual SRS stations: 540, 550, 610, 650, 700, 710, 740. 550 and
700 are playing different NA versions at hourtop; 650 concluding
`Buenos Dias, Yarderos` just before 1200, i.e. XETNT Los Mochis,
Sinaloa, and then always weaker 610, XEGS Guasave joins // for news.

700, Sept 6 at 1205, ``La Poderosa de Parral, 90.3``, i.e. XEGD,
Chihuahua where 5/1 kW can be hyped as ``powerful``.

740, making horrible LAH on minus side of KRMG which soon takes over.
We know this one is XEQN Torreón, Coahuila.

Enid sunrise today: 1207 UT. Also around 1205 Sept 6, tried 870 for
XETAR, but dominated by Spanish gospel huxter from south, presumably
KFJZ Fort Worth, but in new NRC AM Log it is still shown as ETHnic:
Hindi, and other sources say BizTalk Radio (in English)! Could this
really be Mexican? No, new IRCA Log shows only two others in Oaxaca,
Guerrero, not religious and very unlikely (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** NEW ZEALAND. 6170, September 5 at 0543, surprised to find RNZI good
on here at unsked time, so replacing 9700? NO, // very good 9700 is
still on too and stronger, so both transmitters are running in AM.
This may be another Thursday-maintenance test anomaly. BTW, 6170 is
much stronger than adjacent 6165 RHC. By 0558, 6170 is off; at 0602
both 5945 and 9700 are on, and 9700 does not go off until late at
0603*, unusual (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1998, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** NIGERIA. 7254.9, Sept 5 at 0548, VON is on at S9+20 with African
music, drumming prélude to 0600 Hausa. One never know whether this
will be on or AWOL (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9330.16v, Sept 5 at 1421, WBCQ is JBA probably with a NOAA
Weather Radio relay; now moved up the coast from Daytona?

9330.190v, Sept 6 at 1400, WBCQ JBA talk in measured tones of NOAA
robot rather than Brother HyStairical; 1401 fades up a bit, definitely
NOAA Weather Radio, but can`t catch any local mentions, let alone ID
or WBCQ ID. Dorian is currently over the OBX of NC (and we hope DXer
Rick Shaftan is evacuated or doing OK). Far enough from Grimesland not
to cause VOA problems? Check for missing Martí or Bambara
frequencies.

Allan twitted Sept 5: ``Allan Weiner @AllanWBCQ Sep 5
Still storming. Still beaming on 9330khz with weather info. Blessings
for folks in the Carolinas. Tune in the shortwaves when you can. Bring
a portable with you. It’s fun and important``

And on Sept 4: ``Prayers to all in the hurricane path. May our Father
keep pushing it to the east. Far from land. Help our brethren in the
Bahama land. 9330khz on with NOAA weather reports.``

And on Sept 3: ``9330khz on with FL NOAA radio beaming south. Keep
tuned in to all the shortwaves. Much good information and
entertainment. A very good alternative to main stream everything``

Really ``beaming south``?? CCW from 245 degrees WSW, which has been
the nominal central beam for all WBCQ frequencies?? (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1650 kHz, Sept 6 at 1212 UT, rustic Mexmx and ``1650-AM,
cerca de su rancho`` slogans; loops WSW which is just right to
minimize 1640-KZLS, and my line noise from N/S. Must be KSVE El Paso
TX, 8500/850 watts, new format after defunct ESPN-D (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search: I hear a 1 kHz het
on 1000 KTOK OKC, so it`s time to resume hunting. Some editors think
this is a waste, insignificant, but I know I am really getting all
these signals from multiple countries, even if any audio for a
``definite ID`` is unlikely here in deep North America. Usual method:
on R75, 9-kHz steps tuning USB 1 kHz below each channel to detect
tell-tale hets of 1000 Hz.

This is at 0255-0304 UT Sept 6: 531, 621, 684, 711, 774-, 837, 954,
999, 1098, 1107, 1503, 1566, 1575. 621 stands out strongest, probably
Canary Islands. 774 is on the minus side, maybe something local. Often
pilot 999 is most likely COPE, Madrid, Spain, by proximity and power
50 kW.

Another search at 0538-0544 Sept 6: 549, 567, 621, 711, 747, 774(2),
837, 954, 999, 1107 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) See also

** BRAZIL. 11780, Sept 4 at 2057, Brazilian song at S5-S7, as RNA is
back here after a spell on 6180 as others have reported. There are
also reports that Bolsonaro wants to privatize EBC stations, which
would probably put an end to the SW service (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX

** CUBA. 6100, Sept 4 at 0623, RHC English, S9+20 but undermodulated,
better than JBA carrier on 6165; 6000 and 5040 off. Something`s always
wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 13700, Sept 4 at 1325, after resurgence yesterday, no FM spur

** OKLAHOMA. 1490, after open carrier/dead air since at least August
30, KMFS Guthrie is finally revived Sept 4 at 1755 UT with some
musical modulation, 1800 UT ID *only* as ``Son-Life Radio, WJFM, 88.5,
Bâton Rouge``, i.e.. flagship station of Jimmy Swaggart network, who
then starts gospelhuxtering (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1580, Sept 3 at 1830 UT, KOKB Blackwell is OFF, while
sibling 1020 KOKP Perry remains nominal; KOKB still off Sept 4 at
1755, 2105 UT: opens frequency for traces of two other groundwave
stations (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1997 monitoring: confirmed
Wednesday September 4 at 2100 on WRMI 9955, after IS & ID loop. This
stopped at the end of a cycle right at 2100:00, but WOR playout not
cut on until 2100:03 when I have already reached ``---1997``, my first
eight words upcut, as WRMI automation continues to be out of
synchronization. S5-S8 anyway, much better than simulcast on WBCQ
7490.2, JBA in HNL, but confirmed L&C on webcast. Next:

Thu 0100 WRMI 7780 to NE
Full schedule:
http://www.worldofradio.com/radiosked.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9330, Sept 4 at 1355, JBA signal presumed WBCQ relaying NOAA
Weather Radio from Daytona, but too weak to be sure. At 2103 it`s just
as bad but measured down to 9329.94. Will they pick up further NOAA`s
up the GA, SC, NC coasts? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. During a break in my high local line noise level affecting
MW as well as SW, at midday Sept 3, I decide to try something
different: MW bandscan at 1 kHz below each 10-kHz channel in USB, to
``hear the hets``. Even tho this is far from an ideal quiet location
and far from ideal equipment (R75 with 100` E-W longwire, meaning it`s
a bit deaf to the N/S, such as not hearing 820 WBAP), I listen for
frequencies with more than one carrier beating --- some of them very
slow, to slow, to medium, to fast --- and skipping those with no
signal or definitely only one signal. It would take a *lot* more time
to count the beats and calculate each SAH.

This indicates that there are remnants of groundwave from some
second-tier stations around here I seldom or never hear in the clear.
Of course, I am not interested in amassing station totals so am making
no such claims, just an exercise in monitoring and propagation. I will
include the most likely sources based on proximity, top station first.
Remember that we do have some of the highest inland ground
conductivity around here, in the 30s.

I do this between 1840 and 1903 UT Sept 3, i.e. just after local mean
noon always at 1832 UT, when there will be the *least* possibility of
MW skywave, especially now still in summer. Some frequencies with one
fairly strong semi-local seem to be wobbling; hard to be certain if
transmitter fault or receiver overload. As usual when tuning MW or LW
on this receiver, both Preamp 2 and Preamp 1 are OFF. But further ATT
is not engaged. And of course there is no DFing with the LW.

Quite possibly no other DX editor will wish to dedicate the space to
publish this, but here it is in my original log report, which took at
least twice as long afterwards to compile as to carry out.

** CUBA. After many months, I`m again hearing multiple FM spurs from
RHC; on almost daily morning bandscans, no sign of them until now,
Sept 3 at 1337 as I am tuning downward, first encountered circa 13830
but covering 10-11 kHz, 13825-13836. Also 13758-13772, 13626-13637,
13562-13572 weaker; trace circa 13500.

Very strong AM signals on both 13740 and 13700 before 1400, but these
FM spurs are obviously out of 13700 at approx. 65 kHz intervals; and
they are still there after 13740 is off at 1400 check.

Then I search further: FM on 13894-13903; trace circa 13963: these two
higher blobs I had not noticed initially. The closer ones are very
strong too. Come to think of it, I did not notice any F# tone along
with them which used to accompany, but rechecking at 1520 they are all
off as is 13700. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX

** ROMANIA. We may relax? Christian Mocanu, Romania, reports Sept 2
via bclnews.it yg: ``My friends at RRI answered my email and I was
pleased to read the following:

"The Board of the Romanian Radio Society rejected the proposal of
closing down any shortwave or mediumwave broadcasts as well as to
disrupt in any way the production of radio programming, instructed the
Management Council and the President-General Manager to reduce costs
in other areas and the President-General Manager to take all the
required measures in order to ensure funding for the Society"`` (Glenn

** U S A. 9330.034V, Sept 3 at 1412, WBCQ relaying NOAA Weather Radio:
typical robotic cadence and intonation, hurricane info; S6-S8 and
difficult to copy from old wavering transmitter, not 500 kW Super! I
do hear a mention of ``eastern Okeechobee county``. Harold Frodge
first reported this:

``9330, WBCQ, Monticello ME; 2047-2203+, 9/2; Relaying NOAA 162.4 MHz,
KIH26, Daytona Beach FL, with Florida Atlantic coast wx & Dorian
update; long loop repeated, but apparently being updated each
round; 5:34 PM EDT TC. No relayer ID break, but e-mail response
from Allan Weiner in just a couple of minutes confirmed it’s
WBCQ. S9 peaks; very fady after 2100. (Frodge-MI)``

WRMI is still on nominally at 1415 Sept 3 check: 9395 good with BS,
15770 JBA with SMTV; 21525 JBA carrier Radio Africa. WRMI will have to
close down if the winds get too high.

At 1505 UT Sept 3 on MSNBC, Al Roker had a map showing ``scattered
power outages`` inland including Okeechobee county (Glenn Hauser, OK,

** OKLAHOMA. RF 17 DTV, Sept 2 at 1400 UT, after a week of total
breakup, trying to cram multiple satellite channels, K17JN-D Enid has
been fixed but still anomalous. Now both the STBox and the Sanyo DTV
get the same subchannels, no longer the extra ones up to -202.

This is obviously still our local K17JN-D satellator from same site
just west of Enid, N of Chestnut Ave, W of Boomer and E of St Hwy
152.

But now it`s identifying as KCYH-LD!!! and remapping to ch 41!!!
That`s really the Clarion Broadcasting Group parent station in Ardmore
at the other side of Oklahoma. FCC TV Query shows it on RF 34, but a
CP for 41, and yes, that CP is still at G.C. for Ardmore, not Enid;
and FCC still lists K17JN-D with its near-Enid G.C.

When tuned directly to 41-2 and 41-4, the STB shows no signal on RF
34, but that may be saved from some DX long ago.

Here`s the lineup now, not breaking up at all:

41-1, KCYH-LD, 3ABN bug LR
41-2, [blank]
41-3, AmFacts, AFTV bug LR with Unsupported Audio Codec on the Sanyo
41-4, [blank]
41-5, Hope201, Hope Channel bug UR

41-7, 3ABN-RD, Audio only
41-8, 3ABN-RL, Audio only, Spanish
41-9, Radio74, Audio only, English
And nothing further (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

DO NOT DESTROY RADIO ROMANIA INTERNATIONAL!

The Romanian Syndicate of Journalists MediaSind, through the Radio
Romania Branch, expresses its concern at the intention of the SRR
president-general director, Georgică Severin, to suspend the shortwave
broadcast of the Radio Romania International station.

Due to the superficiality with which the responsible factors of the
institution treated the problem of the allocated budget, the Romanian
Broadcasting Society lost, at the last rectification, 10 million lei,
an amount without which the good functioning of the company cannot be
ensured.

In order to cover this consistent deficit, according to some public
statements of the President - General Manager, the expenses with the
shortwave transmitters owned by Radiocom, which broadcasts Radio
Romania International (RRI) programs in 13 languages, would be cut.
dialects.

The 'solution' to closing the shortwave emission, even if it is the
most handy, having immediate effect, is a totally wrong one. Indeed,
as hypocritically motivated by the Georgica Severin decision, these
transmitters are not useful in the country, with the expansion of the
FM network.

The gravity of the decision of the Radio management is, however, a
huge one, undermining even the national interest, with which even
Georgică Severin has no right to play. Let us not forget that Romania
has the second diaspora in the world, as a percentage of the
population, after Syria. From the recent estimates of the Ministry for
Romanians Everywhere, around the country live about 9.7 million
countrymen whom we have to treat as Romanians with full rights, who
have the right to information, including by Radio Romania
International.

The head of the SRR, Georgică Severin, had to make energetic and
repeated requests from the Government in order to obtain sufficient
funds for the good functioning of the institution, including for the
antennas, taking into account the future presidential elections of
2019 and parliamentary from 2020. Why Is the main means of
transmitting messages to Romanians abroad exactly during this
pre-election period being abolished? Should we consider this gesture
merely as a sign of disrespecting the diaspora?

On the other hand, it should be noted that RRI issues programs for the
Aromanian communities in the world, as well as for foreigners, in
general, interested in Romania and the geographical area in which we
are, RRI being thus an efficient polyglot software soft diplomacy
tool. .

Let us not forget then that the shortwave broadcast has a strategic
character, because, in case of necessity, of disasters, of calamities,
but also of suspension, by hostile decisions of Romania, of the
Internet, the Romanian state can communicate with the Romanians from
abroad and with the world at large. As it is known, the Internet is
extremely vulnerable to political decisions. Also, in the case of
catastrophic floods, earthquakes, conflicts, short waves remain the
only reliable way to communicate with the world.

Therefore, the idea of stopping the shortwave broadcast, coupled
with another simplistic idea that RRI will successfully broadcast on
the Internet, can produce serious effects, jeopardizing Romania's
national security.

Exiting the Internet only means, in fact, closing the RRI station,
which is in contravention of Law 41. According to art. 1 of the law,
SRR makes programs for abroad, not online content; broadcast means
radio broadcast, not online!

The exit of the RRI from the shortwave frequencies (this is a heritage
of about 7,000 frequencies that are traded biannually by international
broadcasters) will result in the loss of frequencies in favor of other
countries. At the same time, Radiocom stations in Ţigăneşti, Săftica
and Galbeni, where the 5 stations used for RRI are located, will be
closed and Radiocom employees will be relocated or even fired. And as
according to a harmful Romanian tradition, any provisional decision
becomes final, it is hard to believe that it will return to the
previous situation, to the issuance on short waves, even if the
Government would allocate the necessary funds.

Closing the shortwave transmitters, without offering other means of
transmission in exchange, would practically equate to the
disappearance of the station; radio means broadcast on radio waves,
analog or digital; a station on the Internet is no longer radio, it's
just a multimedia product.

The next logical step, after a possible shutdown of the shortwave
emission at RRI, will be the personnel restructuring. See the unhappy
experience with Radio3Net station, which is only online and
experimentally on DAB, in Bucharest, which has under-sized staff, even
under the conditions of online production.

We consider that giving up the short wave, in whole or in part, is not
a decision that falls within the competence of a president-general
director because it concerns Romania's strategic interests. In this
situation, the CSAT opinion should be requested and, in the
Parliament, the Law on the organization and functioning of the SRR
should be changed. Or, Georgică Severin is far from having the
agreement of these institutions.

The role of RRI has been and is very important: promoting the country
abroad and spreading Romania's opinions worldwide. By giving up any
transmitter, whether from long, short or medium waves, the main object
of activity of the SRR is affected, which is the realization and
dissemination of programs (according to art. 15 of law 41).

Taking into account the serious situation that could arise as a result
of the decision of the head of SRR, MediaSind Radio Romania requests
the Parliament of Romania to intervene in an emergency regime to stop
the destruction of the Radio Romania International station.

them too complex, minutely researched, multi-frequency, opinionated,

Glenn Hauser logs August 30-31, 2019

Glenn Hauser

** CUBA. 9778-9779, Aug 31 at 0348, CRI Plus English relay on 9790-AM
at S9+40/50! Also has FMish spur around this area, and somewhat
readable if tuned in FM mode. Much weaker one on hi side around 9801;
another blob circa 9668 may have been something else. Something`s
always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 9640.04, Aug 31 at 1345, RHC 9640.0 with hum & crackle, and
additional carrier +40 Hz. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 7470, Aug 31 at 0354, Station YHWH presumed is JBA
in HNL with Noise Reduxion switched on (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1490, Aug 30 at 2132 UT; Aug 31 at 1835 UT, KMFS Guthrie,
Jimmy Swaggart`s sobbery radio station, continues open carrier/dead
air, reconfirmed by DF from Guthrie direxion. I wonder if they know,
even care about this, back in Bâton Rouge (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 17 DTV, Aug 31 at 2305 UT, K17JN-D Enid, 3ABN
satellator, no change, still multiple channels all broken up as it
tries to cram entire satellite transponder feed thru broadcast TV
transmitter (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SPAIN. 9690, Friday August 30 at 2203, REE Justin Coe playing some
Joan Baez and talking about her; why? her last concert in July before
retiring was in Madrid. Usual VG signal at this hour but affected by
local hi line noise level which now is extending up to 12 MHz, altho
diminished (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1997 monitoring: confirmed first
SWBC, Friday August 30 at 2200, on WRMI 9955, S9-S4 and not upcut
unlike the airings at 2100.

Also confirmed UT Saturday August 31 at 0130 on WRMI 7780, S9+10/20
including high line noise level which built up again quickly after our
heavy rainfall temporarily quelled it Friday morning.

Also confirmed Sat Aug 31 at 1448 the 1430 on Hamburger Lokalradio,
9485-CUSB, not on the UTwente SDR, but barely audible on the OH5AE SDR
vs huge splash from 9490 Romania.

Also confirmed Sat Aug 31 at 2100 on WRMI 9955 after IS & ID loop.
That stopped by 2100:00, but WOR JIP a sesquisecond later at 2100:01.5
when I am already at ``--- 1997``, as the first eight words already
started playing out several seconds earlier before the unsynchronized
transmitter picked up the feed. I wonder if this happpen to other 2100
programs? Next:

Earlier WRMI was bracing to close down all transmitters if winds were
high enough to cause antenna arcing; this now seems less likely, but
Okee might still be on the edge of the projected path of Hurricane
Dorian. They hoped to keep the `test` frequency of 5800 on the air
without explaining how.

No further FB notices by end of August, but here is one reply earlier:
``Jorge Garzón Gutiérrez --- ¿Precisan monitorizar la fx de 5800 para
comunicar si hay algún fallo o comprobar la calidad? Lo podemos
comunicar desde el norte de España. Mucha precaución y coraje!!!``

Also for the record, a phone number change: ``August 29 at 2:51 PM ·
WRMI Audio by Phone --- The telephone number to hear our live stream
on 9955 kHz has recently changed. The new number is +1-641-741-1762.
We will try to update on online and on-air announcements as soon as
possible`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. (7490), UT Sat Aug 31 from 0000, AAAWWW on WBCQ, this time
more talk about radio and tech than politix, so listen some more. At
0023 he says that the Super-Station will be testing ``this`` week on
three new frequencies, 12120, 15705 and 17735 at various times,
probably staring at 50 kW level, then 100, 150, 200, 250, 500, 600.

(This corresponds to the latest HFCC registration as 500 kW, Arabic
only, 60 degrees only --- so who needs a rotatable antenna? from 0900
on 15705, 1200 on 17735, and 2000-0857 on 12120 --- oblivious of the
continuous RTTY on 12120 who won`t be too happy about being blasted by
500 kW of broadcast RF. Per UDXF Logs it`s the US Navy`s ubiquitous
NAU in Isabela, Puerto Rico).

So WBCQ must have got the needed documentation on how to tune up on
other frequencies than 9330. But are there any ex-Ampegon engineers
back at WBCQ by now?

9330, BTW is on the air now and close to 9330.0, but NOT the SS. At
0055 I check all five frequencies despite the HLNL: 9330.0 S9 and
almost as good as 7490.1 at S9+10; 6160.1 at S9+10; 5130.37 at S9+20,
but 7, 6 and 5 readings include the HLNL. 3264.9 is as always JBA.

As usual he gets to E-mail near the end of the hour, says there isn`t
much this week; but somehow keeps going way over until 0118, cut to
``He Is Coming Again`` hymn, except on 5 MHz which has changed to
unreadable talk something. Here`s John Carver`s version:

``Tonight's show started a few seconds early on 7490. Allan and Angela
in the studio this evening. Opening comments about Florida and the
hurricane. First phone call at 0012 from Freddie. Superstation is down
for now because of antenna work so the 9330 broadcast this evening is
from a classic transmitter. It was also announced that the 6160
transmitter had been retubed at a cost of thousands of dollars.
Special fall rates for 6160 of thirty-five dollars per hour. Allan
said time on the transmitter is open except for AAWWW slot. He also
announced that the 6160 transmitter was running compatible side
band.

It was also mentioned that soon there would be open time on 3265 for
sale. In response to Freddie he said that the plenum had not been
replaced as of yet so 3265 was still running on backup transmitter.
Then Allan said to watch his twitter feed next week as testing would
resume on the superstation. They would be trying 12120, 15705 and
17735.

Next phone call at 0027 with caller singing the praises of a
discontinued Grundig receiver. Angela then had a question about an
article she'd read about 5G dumbphones and increased radiation and
health risks. Allan went into a long discussion about the different
types of radiation, effects of microwaves, amount of radiation from
dumbphones from 1G to 5G. Phone call from Ramsey at 0041 continues
discussion of harm of RFI, EMI etc. Phone call at 0049 on the other
phone while Ramsey was still on the air. Finished the call with Ramsey
and then Pirate Joe gave a signal report and then continued the
discussion of radiation from devices.

Reading of emails at 0059 and closing prayer at 0109. Program was off
the air at 0118 and 7490 went into what was assumed to be Brother
Stair. John, Mid-North Indiana`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A. 1090, Aug 31 at 0403 UT, dead air loops E/W, no doubt KAAY
Little Rock tho some understation talk is JBA. By 0405 KAAY revives
with country hymn (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9369.0-USB, Aug 31 at 1343, 2-way in Spanish INTRUDERS
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

This report dispatched at 0022 UT September 1

Glenn Hauser logs August 28-29-30, 2019

Glenn Hauser

** BRAZIL. 4885+, Aug 28 at 0617, JBA carrier just enough to tell it`s
slightly offset+plus, but is it R. Clube do Pará or the usual
understation, Rdif. Acreana, Rio Branco. Can anyone confirm which or
both still active? Someone was wondering if these stations had burned
up, but I would not expect that in the cities rather than the jungle.
I was lucky to detect this much before 2.6 inches of rain abated my
line noise level (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. CNR1 jammer survey, Aug 29 at 1356:
10160, Chinese, VP
11100, Chinese, VP
11460, Chinese, then music, S4-S7
Three more WOOB JBA carriers on 12350, 13150 an 13320 compute to be
1390 KCRC mixtures with RHC or RM on 13740, 11760, 11930 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. 7600, Aug 30 at 1321, CNR1 jammer, S5-S7 vs intermittent
RTTY 7597, // 9680 but no highers found.

At least I can DX the 7 MHz band, as we got 2.6 inches of rain! since
0730 UT which washed out the high line noise, probably temporarily;
and now I can hear the weaker lightning crashes. Aoki/NDXC shows 7600
is a Sound of Hope frequency available 23 hours a day, so so is the
jamming (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NIGERIA. 7255-, Aug 28 at 0607 check, NO signal from VON. How can a
major (well at least high-power) world broadcaster be so unreliable?
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1490, Aug 30 at 1652 UT and still past 1730, DEAD AIR
form KMFS Guthrie, a tremendous improvement over the usual gospel
huxtering: no one at station may care, or cannot even stand it either
enough to monitor when it break down (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. Correxion: The TBN ``14`` call on RF 15 is KTBO, not
KOPX, which is the Ion station. Fixed:

I had not checked OKC DTV stations during the storm, but bandscan Aug
27 at 1817 and 1930 UT finds RF 15 and 16 missing! I.e. TBN 14 and
Daystar 46, nothing but gospel huxters. Both KTBO and KOCM-DT are back
at next check 0450 UT Aug 28, but KOCM signal is Bad, mostly not
decoding (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. Tonight [UT Thursday Aug 29] I am getting extremely
strange stuff in Enid on RF ch 17, which I assume is just the local
3ABN transmitter K17JN-D (altho there are signs of tropo on some
other, open channels).

First tuned around 0400 UT Aug 29, re-surveyed after 0500. Around 0430
I snapped a number of photos. EVERYTHING is totally broken up. There
is too much of it to capture for my DTV Pixillated Video Art Gallery!

But here are what I snapped, mostly on different subchannels one after
another, but not keeping track of exactly which be which. Some are
partially recognizable, others pure ART, as also linked from

On the STB PSIP display, DTV 59-1 thru 59-7, similar lineup to what
w9wi.com has for the Amarillo ch 17,
{e.g, K17HI Amarillo
17.1:E:_3Abn
17.2:E:_3Abn Proclaim
17.3:E:Dare to Dream

17.6:S:_3Abn Latino Rad
17.7:E:R. 74}
including some audio only channels such as 59.7 Radio 74 which we also
get on 89.3 KIEL Loyal.

59!!! we have never had an original 59 around here and W9WI.com has
only two stations on it elsewhere.

On my SANYO DTV these display as 17- whatever and keep going to 8, 10,
11, 13, 61, 71, 75, 111, 122, 133, 201 and finally 202, as I keep
changing channel upward, none of these having been programmed in. Some
are labeled AUDIO ONLY, which I think I have never seen before on OTA
DTV. Some are UNSUPPORTED AUDIO CODEC. 17-8 has glimpses of Russian
text, NADEZHDA bug. All are breaking up video and/or audio, even tho
the STB signal meter is strong, not steady but fluxuating, still well
into the Good range.

Here is the lineup as best I can determine:

59-1 thru 59-7 display as such only on the STB, none higher like on
the Sanyo as 17-1 thru 202

UAC = unsupported audio codec error message mid-screen

Recheck around 1500 UT, same things. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE? Thanks,
(Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WTFDA gg via WORLD OF RADIO 1997, DXLD)

Same thing happening following days, still morning of Aug 30 (gh)

Glenn, The info you refer to (channel lineup) is from the Galaxy 19 Ku
satellite (transponder 11842 H). See attached jpeg. The 3ABN feeds are
on the same satellite.
https://www.lyngsat.com/Galaxy-19.html
(Scroll down to 11842 H and you will see the list)

So this has to be coming from one of your local LD's or DTV repeater
stations that are sending out that satellite MUX. IF they are not
supposed to be doing that, then someone obviously changed something in
their satellite receiver from what you have been familiar seeing.

You can always send an email to the owner...?

(Jim Thomas, Springfield, Missouri, ibid.)

I believe Jim's analysis is spot on. Someone made a mistake and is
trying to stuff the 35 or 40 Mbps DVB-S satellite transponder through
the 19 Mbps OTA transmitter, which is causing your awful breakup and
the long and somewhat incoherent-seeming list of channels. I don't
know quite why it's mapping to 59-x, that's weird, but the rest of it
makes perfect sense.(- Trip Ericson, http://www.rabbitears.info Aug
29, ibid.)

I am not going to try to contact them, rather monitor how long this
monstrosity continue, as there is no programming I wish to receive in
the clear, nor likely any Enidian, as there has been zero local
publicity that this thing even exist (gh, DXLD)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 15205.108, Aug 29 at 1742, Qur`an at S7-S8. Riyadh
scheduled 16-18, 500 kW at 320 degrees supposedly not beyond W Europe
CIRAF 27-28 but also USward.

11820.045, Aug 29 at 1801, Arabic talk but will soon be Qur`aning
reliably here afternoons; same parameters as 15205+, 500 k@ at 320

they do not overlap (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

2100:01 on WRMI 9955, JIP as ``---with World of Radio 1996``, after IS

in HLNL, but at 2124 check of webcast, NOT WOR, but a religious
program `Lifeline`. However, at 2131 WOR starts instead of Goddess
Irina. Meanwhile I have inquired of the boardops if this be a
permanent change? No, Robert says it`s a timing issue, back to normal
next week. [WORLD OF RADIO 1997]

Also confirmed UT Thu Aug 29 at 0100 on WRMI 7780 --- as usual VP
here, but this time I check UTwente SDR and find a VG signal! As it is
supposed to be, aimed at Europe rather than off the side thisaway, for

** U S A. 5800, Aug 28 at 0610, trace of music, could be // 9395, not
5950; the strange WRMI ``test frequency`` they hope to keep on the air
even if all the other transmitters have to close down during high
winds from Dorian, even power outage.

This further raises the question, is 5800 really somewhere else than
Okeechobee? Like maybe the abandoned 9955 site Hialeah? WRMI has been
very mum about this; altho in Jeff`s HFCC 100 kW at Okeechobee is also
claimed for 5800 since ``RMI`` means Okeechobee, only; but would not
be the only imaginary info in HFCC. Ivo still employs the obsolete
site abbr. YFR (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9475, Aug 30 at 0407, WTWW-1 on the air with day frequency

referring to ``Governor Chickenlooper down in Colorado``. Wonder if

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. Fulfilling dire warnings all day, a major storm
hit the OKC area (but not Enid!), the evening of Aug 26, early UT
August 27, resulting in the major TV stations blowing away their
entire primetime schedules for wall-to-wall coverage. Mike Morgan on
KFOR even called it an ``inland hurricane`` since winds were up to 80
mph. Caused a lot of damage, with hail, flooding, many power lines
down; up to 85 kilocustomers blacked out at peak per OG&E
Systemwatch.

Not until 0542 UT do I start checking whether any radio stations are
affected, and some are, even in the Enid area:

1520, Aug 27 at 0542 UT, KOKC is dead air, still so at 0554; I can`t
hear its FM translator on 95.3 either, whether off or dead air as it`s
marginal anyway.

1640, Aug 27 at 0545 UT, KZLS ``Enid`` (Hennessey) is dead air, maybe
because it`s programmed out of OKC. Still at 0554;

however at 0552 I nulled its carrier as much as possible to hear
another station with music. Normally it`s WTNI Biloxi MS, reported in
MW Circle as ex-sports:

``** U S A. 1640 WTNI [Biloxi MS] --- Yesterday I moved my antenna
from its summer position (about 270 degrees) to the winter one (about
300). LA has been a dead loss from here this year although to be fair
I have been away a great deal.

I was rewarded with good reception today after months of very little
(conditions I think rather than the antenna move working a miracle).
It's probably been reported elsewhere but I noted that 1640 WTNI seems
to have abandoned sport. ID noted as "This is Classic Country 103.5
The Possum". Also 1680 KRJO noted with "99.7 My FM" [Monroe LA]
(Paul Crankshaw, Aug 21, MWCircle yg via DXLD)

Thanks, Paul. WTNI used to simulcast 1490 WANG sport "The Champ". The
change of 1490 WANG to "103.5 The Possum" and country format was
reported in March in MWN. However at that time 1640 WTNI retained the
sport format. Neither NRC nor IRCA have subsequently reported that
1640 WTNI has now rejoined 1490, ditching the sport format for
country. Wikipedia says that this change occurred in June 2019, but I
can't find independent confirmation.

KRJO's slogan "99.7 My FM" appears also not to have been reported by
NRC or IRCA. The format change to Adult Contemporary was noted in
March 2019, although the format, slogan and repeater 99.7FM addition
all date from 2016 according to RadioInsight
https://radioinsight.com/headlines/107211/99-7-myfm-debuts-in-monroe/
73 (/Andrew Brade, ibid.)

Hello Andrew and Paul, 1680 KRJO noted by my addition to last year`s
NRC log and in 2019/20 log. 1640 WTNI still shown as ESPN in 2019/20
NRC Log and now amended. Best wishes & 73s (Barry :-) Carlisle UK.

1000, Aug 27 at 0550, KTOK OKC is still on but audio breaks up; by
0616 dead air.

Other OKC AM signals seem nominal at 0550+, 930, 800 and 640.

Then I check FM from 0554 Aug 27:
88.3, K202BY Enid is dead air instead of Family Radio. It doesn`t take
a storm for this one to fail, again & again. Still dead all day
105.5, K288FX North Enid is dead air at 0602 instead of relay KYLV
88.9; resumed by 0500 UT Aug 28, gospel rock and K-Love 88.9 OKC ID

In OKC area, major FMs are still on, EXCEPT
93.3, KJKE Newcastle, not heard at first, but then at 0554 weakly;
QRP? from 100 kW? Or possibly storm interfered with propagation
98.1, WWLS-FM The Village is definitely off at 0555, still off at
1313, and 1600 UT; still off or QRP? at 0500 Aug 28
98.9, KYIS OKC, definitely off at 0555, still off at 1313 but on by
1600
100.5, KATT-FM, definitely off at 0555, still off at 1600; but 1619 on
caradio, OKC area ads, so suspect it`s also QRP
100.5, KTFR, Chelsea OK, 25/25 kW, 92m, is presumably the Spanish I
hear briefly overcoming weakened KATT, Aug 27 at 1615 UT on caradio;
Chelsea is in NE corner of OK on Hwy 66 between Claremore and Vinita
103.5, KVSP Anadarko, 100/100 kW, 600m rimshotter into OKC market, is
dead air at 1613 UT, but rock at 1622.

I had not checked OKC DTV stations during the storm, but bandscan Aug
27 at 1817 and 1930 UT finds RF 15 and 16 missing! I.e. TBN 14 and
Daystar 46, nothing but gospel huxters. Both KOPX and KOCM-DT are back
at next check 0450 UT Aug 28, but KOCM signal is Bad, mostly not
decoding (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 100.9, Aug 27 at 0558 UT I notice that the new K265FL
Enid translator of KGWA 960 is displaying on RDS as KGWA-FM! Is there
no rule against imaginary callsigns on RDS? And still no stereo
pilot, altho I have not checked during the detestable Sean Hannity,
whenever he`s on (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1580, Aug 27 at 0546 UT, emergency sounder and warning from

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1996 monitoring: turned on UTWente

halfway thru WOR at the YHWH item! But 1815 cut to Aïda theme, 1816.5
re-start WOR 1996. Usual very strong and loud signal, modulation just
below the distortion threshold, from IRRS via ROMANIA, but with some
deep selective fading distortion. This can be considerably reduced by
LSB or USB tuning, or even better, synch.

** U S A. 1130, Aug 26 at 1915 UT on caradio I notice that KLEY, 250
watts in Wellington KS, is back on the air, the first time noticed
since at least May 3. I haven`t checked for it every day but I`m sure
it hasn`t been for more than a week. 1929 ID as ``The Wave 100.3`` as
they have kept the ``translator`` of a silent AM station on the air as
I confirmed that at local range July 10. I`ll bet 1130 is gone again
before long, but it`s still JBA Aug 27 at 1943 UT vs HLNL (Glenn

its Liberal KS relay, 100 kW. Cimarrón is between Dodge and Garden
Cities on US 50/400, 274 km = 170 miles from here. I have heard KSMM

do not check them.

with a much stronger signal. I had not heard this for over a year;
possible only during the limited UT Sun & Mon activity of WWRB, and
not in the B-seasons when on 90m instead. Then it would be worth
checking for 2 x 3185, 3195 or 3215, whichever in use, on 6370, 6390

** U S A. 760, Aug 26 at 0150 UT, WJR is nulled as I am trying to ID
the Spanish LAH on the minus side, but more signal is coming from
something in English with ``Place for Mom`` national ad but then Glen
Beck plugging his show ``tomorrow at 7 am on Freedom 93-7, Real News,
Real Talk``. That`s now the branding of KDSP Thornton CO = Denver
market, U4 50/1 kW, obviously a flip from NBC Sports as of a year ago.
0159 UT ad with 303 areacode, 0200 Fox ``news`` sounder. I wonder if
KDSP employ digital signal processing?? Rather the call was likely
denoting ``Denver SPorts``. Now, FCC AM Query shows it`s KDFD as in
``Denver FreeDom``, since 6/25/2019. Official LSS in Aug is 0200 UT;
September 0115 UT.

As for 93.7, it`s a mere 99-watt translator in Lakewood, K229BS
[apropos call!], wagging the 760 dog; WTFDA DB still shows it
originating with ``KDSP`` 760 but does have the new slogan ``Freedom
93.7`` [sic, with a point] (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 760-, Aug 26 at 0143 UT, WJR Detroit in Michigan
talkshow suffers from a low audible het on the minus side. I pull some
Mexmx by nulling WJR, i.e. NW/SE, but it`s hard to tell where this QRM
peak, as there is more QRM from Colorado really from the NW [see USA
log]. At 0156 an SHVA in Spanish but can`t copy any ID. In the NRC AM
Log 2018, the only USSSes on 760 are two Floridians, both on at night
but with wrong formats: WLCC Brandon 1 kW religious, and WEFL Tequesta
1 sesquikW ESPND; even less likely two Radios Progreso in Cuba.

Could it be Mexican? The most clockwise is on the AZ border, XENY
Nogales, Sonora. Was slightly off-minus, 29 months ago per mwoffsets:
``759.9898 MEX XENY-AM Radio Xeny (Nogales) 2017-03-25``
i.e. -10.2 Hz which unseems quite enough for the LAH I hear. While WJR
itself was only 0.2 Hz high as of a dekamonth ago. IRCA Mexican Log
last year shows XENY 5000/100 watts with music formats, but no mention
of offfrequenciness. Perhaps someone closer can confirm its exact
frequency (and existence) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 11855.77V, Saturday August 24 at 2215 tune-in, during the
DX program on R. Aparecida, `Encontro DX`. Immediately mentions the
station a few times, but made up of several segments with very
different voices. 2217 it`s a report by a slow talker from the DX
Clube do Brasil about the futuro das ondas curtas. There is slight
pulse jamming bleed from Cuba on 11860 until I switch to LSB tuning.
2221, report from Paraíba by Amaral(?), fast talker, full schedule of
RAE relays via Okeechobee very rapidly, but I heard one incorrect
frequency, 9455. 2225 Daniel Camporini mentioned, Argentine DXer. By
2229 has drifted down to 11855.73 or so and show is not over: now a
RAE guy is speaking Spanish with a porteño accent, about how many LRA
stations there are around the country. 2233 mentions DX Clube sem
Fronteiras, outro this show ``Encontro DX na Rádio Aparecida, nos
sábados``, finally ends at 2235, then some whistling.

The 11855+ signal rated S6, fades to S3; I then compare it to RNA on
11780: S8-S5, so ZYE954 is providing a respectable signal considering
the 250:1 kW power differential --- or is one a bit less, the other a
bit more? I have to look this up in a previous WRTH since the 2019
had deleted all four Aparecida SW frequencies! Finally I check the
other one propagating at 2238, 9630.4 as it too is always
off-frequency, rating S4 vs local high noise level.

It`s great that a Brasilian station allows such a DX program to exist.

** MEXICO. 650, Aug 23 at 1200, Radio 65 ID mentioning elevation of

Database shows XHTNT-FM on 100.5 from Los Mochis, Sinaloa, 10/10 kW at
a height AAT of 185.76 metres --- which is nothing special, but
admittedly higher than anything else in Los Mochis, and in fact
exactly the same as for 104.3 XHREV-FM; hmm, and exactly same
coördinates, which tell us something. XHTNT used to be on 106.5,
commensurate with its AM slogan which they are still using and
transmitting.

Unfortunately awake this early, I had been tuning SRS Mexicans for a
semihour and hearing most of the usuals below 800 kHz, altho the more

but we knew it would be activating the CP for ``fully loony`` K265FL
translator of 960 KGWA on 100.9. In fact, it was within a matter of
*hours*, since next check circa 0000 UT Aug 24 found new local bigsig
with Fox ``news``. Recheck at 1358 UT, 100.9 still on with the
absurdly-accented Sebastian Gorka concluding an hour of his `America
First` show on the Salem Radio Network (featuring witch-hunts). So I`m
listening carefully for the new ID: NO, 1400 UT ToH ID on 100.9 ONLY
for KGWA AM, into Fox ``news``. Off to a great start!

BTW, the power consumption of full-size electronic billboards must be
huge with all those LEDs bright enough in full sunlight.

Far-right extremist talk stations often default to less- or even
non-political talk shows to fill time on weekends; such as here on
Saturday circa 1735 UT it`s about travel. And guess what, *no* stereo
pilot. Do they turn it on only for Sean, or is that fake news? Most
stations would not want to bother with turning stereo on and off.

Back before K265FL activated, Aug 23 at 1839 UT on the caradio I kept
on 100.9 for one last chance to hear anything else there; various
marginal signals fading back and forth, but at 1849 UT, ad for
Keystone Chevy in Sand Springs, ergo KTSO, Sapulpa, both Tulsa
suburbs, 19/19 kW at 114 m HAAT, per WTFDA DB, ``80'S HITS --- TOTALLY
AWESOME 80'S``. There are other lower Okies on 100.9 in Edmond,
Chickashay, Shawnee and Miamuh. There are three in Kansas, a 96.9 watt
LP in Wichita, 35.5 kW in Clay Center, and 100 kW in Lakin (which IIRC
was far enough away from Wichita to have another NTSC channel 3).

It`s a shame that a CP for a new LP in Enid on 100.9 never eventuated;
it would have had some public-service remit with one of its backers
Enid and Garfield County Emergency Management Director, Mike
Honigsberg. So KGWA glommed onto the frequency which will surely
attain inferior coverage to its 1 kW on 960. But we all know AM radio
is *so* passé.

Is the translator on one of their AM towers at the NW corner of Enid?
NO, FCC info shows it at the NE corner of Grand and Randolph in
downtown Enid, certainly better for city-wide coverage. K265FL antenna
is atop the former First National Bank building of seven stories, now
``One Grand Center`` of Wymer-Brownlee, photoed the next day:
http://www.w4uvh.net/K265FL.jpg
as a 2-element thing. This is a block NNW of the white-elephant vacant
and locked-up ten-story Broadway Tower which now accomplishes nothing
except serving as a somewhat higher antenna base for some other
lower-powered FMs, not including ex-104.7 KUAL/KEIF-LP The Rocket,
which got caught with too much antenna height as a result (and too
commercial). From another angle, the much higher antenna mast on BWT
behind it, eclipses the closer and lower K265FL one.

In its heyday, the BW Tower contained the office of my uncle, a lawyer
and later respected judge. A few years ago, somecompany tried to
refurbish offices into hotel suites, apparently busted. Meanwhile, a brand
new downtown hotel is going up less than two blox away (Glenn Hauser,

** TURKEY. 9635.021, Aug 23 at 2017, ME music not Qur`an, what?
Carrier wobbles slightly as I off-measure it; cuts off at 2028, what?

** U S A. 13306-USB, Aug 24 at 1431, ground-to-air contact by New York
Radio good vs JBA signal from aircraft. YL op assigns 11396 as
secondary, then she can barely hear Iberia 0012 flight.

13348-USB, Aug 24 at 1433, another flight contact by OM op with
selcals, also New York? This frequency not listed by EiBi for
anywhere, so I search the UDXF iog: incredibly, no logs since November
2014, by the once-prolific Al Stern at Satellite Beach FL, as New York
LDOC, whatever that mean; reactivated?

Meanwhile, Andy Robins, Kalamazoo, replies to my previous 13306 log:

``Glenn: Selcal codes are assigned to particular aircraft. The same
code can be assigned to different aircraft, although I believe the
ICAO suggests that planes sharing a code not operate in the same area.
For example, an airliner flying routinely in the North Atlantic MWARA
and another with the same selcal in the Indian Ocean aren't likely to
be getting calls intended for the other aircraft. When I was heavily
into HF aeronautical listening in the late 1990's, there were fat
books of selcal codes that DXers used to figure out the "tail number"
(registration) of the aircraft they heard. 73``

Thanks, Andy; I am always glad to get elucidations from others about
my logs! Unfortunately, some editors delete them, feeling they are not
authorized to quote someone I quote (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING

SWBC, Friday August 23 at 2200 on WRMI 9955, S9-S6 and no upcut.

Alan Gale, England, reports: ``Hi Glenn, Was it just me or was the

9485 from here or even on the usually reliable Finnish SDRs. Media
Network Plus had been audible at around 1400 UT before fading out at
around 1410, and I could zero beat a carrier on 9485, so you may
have been there but just masked by the heavy splatter. It's a pity the
programme isn't on 30 minutes later as 9490 always goes quiet at 1500.

** U S A. 9330, unlike last Friday, WBCQ Superstation is not running
in the afternoon altho AW had twitted that he would be on 9330 plus
the other four this evening. On my noisy-by-the-computer/TVs ATS-909,
no sign of a signal even after 0000 UT Aug 24, unlike the SS which had
no problem overcoming. On webcast, AW launches right into political
vehemence, so I`m not listening except for occasional spotchex during
the hour.

However, just before, from 2354 Aug 23, I checked out all the SW
frequencies: 9330 detectable at only S7-S9, off-frequency a dead
giveaway it`s the Classic transmitter not the SS. Measured on about
9330.04V. Much stronger at S9+20 is 7490.17; someone even wondered if
the SS were on there --- but not if it`s inexact. 6159.97, S7-S9 but
ACI from 6165 much stronger RHC even tho it`s undermodulated as usual.
5130.38 is S9+10 but struggles against noise level; 3264.9 a JBA
carrier as usual at best here. Rehear last few minutes as usual
running past 0100 until finishes at 0103:35.

John Carver reports: ``Tonight's show started on time. Listening on
7490 this evening. Tried 9330 and they're not using the new
transmitter but the older transmitter set up for 9330 and could barely
copy it here. Allan bemoaning that the world is full of idiots. Rant
about the perception of climate change. First phone call at 0012 from
Bill Smith who is now out of prison and in a halfway house.

After phone call Allan states that the work on the new transmitter and
antenna is coming along nicely but no dates given for completion. The
discussion on climate change continued after that. Talk of many ways
of creating energy that will be used at a future time. Discussion
became a little more political as Allan expressed his disgust with the
number of people wanting to be supported by the government and not
having to work. Reading of emails at 0051. Program was off the air at
0103. 7490 moved into Brother Stair. John Mid-North Indiana`` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9475-, Aug 23 at 2015, WTWW-1 is on! First time caught in a
few days, S9/+10 but very undermodulated. It`s gone again at next
check 2131, nor on night frequency 5830- (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1560, Aug 24 at 0556 UT, KGOW Houston Vietnamese nulled as
much as possible, so I again hear English station roughly east/west.
Making SAH of about 144/minute = 2.4 Hz. Local weather by YL but can`t
catch any clues (some weather forecasts assume everybody listening
knows it`s local!); 0558 UT ``Odd Couple`` seems show name, one of
them being Rod Pearson? or something like that. No local ID caught but
``Fox Sports Radio`` and at 0600 UT into scores of stupid ballgames.

Meanwhile I got this suggestion: ``(just a wild guess here) your 1560
beating with KGOW might have been Paducah in rogue-daytime mode.
Again, that's just a wild guess based upon absolutely nothing. And, re
the semi-colon; I completely agree. Always 73z. -- GREG HARDISON``

By Greg, I think he`s got it. WPAD, KY from the east, is indeed a Fox
Sports affil, supposedly U1, 1000/35 watts. One might have guessed my
nearest 1560, KEBC Del City OK, also sports, but listed in last year`s
NRC AM Log as NBC, U2 1000/250. But it`s virtually co-linear with KGOW
and I hear nothing of it when aiming that way, just KGOW (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 2900, Aug 23 at 0554 UT, JBA carrier. Checking out Kevin
Redding`s Crump TN suggestion on the ABDX yg, Aug 23 at 0210 UT,
``WREL 1450 2nd harmonic --- Turn to 2900 to hear WREL 2nd Harmonic on
2.900 MHz``. We`re supposed to know the locations of every
graveyarder? I find a previous log of its fundamental from *2017*:
``1450 August 11 at 1530, WREL Lexington VA, ID "Sports radio for
Rockbridge County 1450 WREL" (Larry Will-WV)``.

Of the hundreds of stations on 1450, several others could be
harmonicizing; what`s remarkable is that how few US MW stations
axually radiate on doubles and triples beyond local range. Also I am
surprised even to detect some JBA carrier, with summer storm noise
more of an obstacle than my high local line noise at this part of
spectrum, which sometimes is bad as high as 11.8 MHz (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 2940.082, Aug 23 at 0555, JBA carrier vs storm noise,
naturally suspecting HJNT, Radio Huellas (footprint), Cali, the 2 x
1470+ harmonicizer previously identified always off frequency+plus
altho last time April 23, it was on 2940.132; Colombia`s only (almost)
SW station (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

12190, Chinese, S5-S7
12820, Chinese, S4-S6
None higher up to 15 MHz, skipping the JBA carrier on 13150 which must
be local mix of RHC 11760 + KCRC 1390 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING

** NEW ZEALAND. 9760, Thu Aug 22 at 0614-0615* huge S9-S6 dead air,
presumably RNZI which during its Thursday maintenance period is liable
to test frequencies beyond their scheduled hours. Signal level is much
like the SSOB we get from RNZI on 9700 before 0600. Richard Langley,
visiting California, also had unID on 9760 a bit earlier:

``As noted here in Indian Wells this evening (22 August UT), there was
a strong carrier on 9760 kHz with test tones before 0430 UT, then a
straight carrier continuously except for a couple of brief pauses and
then around 0500, a wideband signal appeared, presumably DRM. But from
whom? RNZI? Anyone else with DRM capability use this frequency?``
The question is whether 9700-AM was on as usual at 05-06; if so, both
transmitters would have been running. Hours for 9760 are DRM only,
1936-2058 on Sunday-Friday (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 28, Aug 22 at 1437 UT, 44-1 Ion is decoding, along
with 44-2 Qubo, 44-3 IonPlus, 44-4 Shop, 44-5 QVS, 44-6 HSN, i.e. the
usual six channels on Ion stations like KOPX OKC. Lacking any real
callsign ID, we know this one is really megawatt KTPX-TV Okmulgee for
the Tulsa market; W9WI.com shows 44-3 as Ion Life instead. No, it`s
now IonPlus as on KOPX, RF 18, 62-3, OKC.

An hour earlier, KWOU 88.1 Woodward was way above normal level for
`Stardate` so I knew there was some tropo; and good thing I made the
DTV bandscan, since Hepburn`s tropo predixion maps showed no
enhancement at all reaching Enid from either direxion. And his link to
Mountainlake for current conditions still lands on blank maps.

Only other DTV DX decoding is RF 20, KQCW-HD 19-1; but plenty of Bad
signals from the OKC-aimed antenna thru the STB: 8, 10, 11, 12, 21,
22, 31, 34, 36, 45, mostly correlating with Tulsa market (Glenn
Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Not to be confused with sexercises; there is more than one survey; we
non-Marsians are interested in the one linked about WWV:

It would be a good idea for all SWLs to fill this in, reasserting that
WWV/H are still very much useful for us (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF

backup frequency 17946 to some flight, then selcall tones. (Are these
constantly reassigned to current flights/planes, or always pertaining

latter.) EiBi shows 13306 is shared with other ground stations on the

daytimer-only, WJNL Kingsley MI; however KGYN is gaining with the
usual SAH of almost 3 Hz, and I can`t read the rapid multi-station ID

sure if CBS. At least the high line noise level is not affecting this
MW area now, tho still roaring higher e.g. 7 MHz band.

WJNL has now been doing this for at least two months. BTW, they are
also the only 1210 listed affiliate of the self-confessed psychotic

Re: GOW Media, LLC (GML) KGOW(AM), Bellaire, TX
Facility Identification Number: 17389
Special Temporary Authority (STA) BESTA-20 18081 3AAG

Dear Mr. Gow:
This is in reference to the request filed on August 18, 2018. GML
requests a further extension of the STA granted on June 28, 2016, to
continue operating daytime using the licensed 15 kW nighttime site
array pending the filing of the required FCC Form 302 application to
update all operating parameters due to repairs made over the past two
years.1

In support of the request, GML stated that all repairs were completed
with exception of the replacement 50 kW daytime site transmitter (new
parts on order).

Requests for extension of STA will be granted only where the licensee
can show that one or more of the following criteria have been met:

• Restoration of licensed facilities is complete and testing is
underway;
• Substantial progress has been made during the most recent STA period
toward restoration of licensed operation; or

• No progress has been made during the most recent STA period for
reasons clearly beyond the licensee's control, and the licensee has
taken all possible steps to expeditiously resolve the problem.
Accordingly, the request for extension of the STA IS HEREBY GRANTED,
and GML may continue to operate day and night from the nighttime
transmitter site using the currently licensed 15 kW nighttime site
array. GML must use whatever means are necessary to protect workers
and the public from exposure to radio frequency radiation in excess of
the Commission's exposure guidelines.

'KGOW(AM) is licensed for DA operation on 1560 kHz with 46 kW day and
15 kW night, using different patterns at different sites.

See 47 CFR § 1.1310. GML must file the application to update all
operating parameters, or submit an e-mail to my attention to confirm
the date the station was able to resume the separate licensed daytime
site and nighttime site operations (per BL-201 1 12O5ALL with
negligible changes).

This authority expires on March 12, 2019.

Sincerely,
vJseph S,Tineer Audio Diition Media Bureau [sic]

[Joseph Szczesny --- his own signature messed up the text copying]

HOWEVER our easy reception to the N and NW implies it is the day
pattern being used at night, rather than night pattern day and night
--- or maybe they just gave up and are non-direxional.

Steven Luce replies again, Aug 22: ``KGOW is using its night site at
night; easy to DF here in Houston as the day site is to the south and
the night site to the west. The night site has the nine towers, but
apparently now out of whack`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

TheClassicalStation, WCPE in NC, but still out-of-phase during WCPE
announcement making it very low-level; I had already notified WCPE
about this as in previous report, so asked again, and got this reply:

``Good Day Glenn, Yesterday our Engineering Manager instructed KUCO’s
engineers to check the wiring from the satellite receiver (that
receives WCPE) to their board for a possible crossover affecting our
signal. We believe that this is the issue and are waiting for their
confirmation. We are sorry for the delay in resolving the issue. I
will write to you again after we have further discussion with KUCO.

90.1, Aug 21 at 0559 UT, no more suppressed audio, so I then reply:

``Gregg, Thanks for following up on this. Last night it was back to
normal on the break after Beethoven`s 7th at 1:59 am ET. So the
problem was definitely at KUCO as you suggested? If so, apologies for
assuming it was at WCPE.

BTW, listening on headphones, I could even hear the ``subaudible`` cue
tone before the ID, but KUCO did not catch it; instead we heard the
WCPE etc. legal ID. I think this happens frequently anyway. What is
the pitch of that tone? Glenn``

JBA signal from WBCQ; presumably extended TOMBS instead of 9330 which
is no longer available --- altho it really is, as long as WLC has not
really started 24/7. Overcomer website is far outdated, as of June,
claiming still to be on 9330 24h, and on 7490 only at 22-23 UT! Altho
has also been running most nights from 0100-- until?? Evidently also
BSing way before ``normal`` programming start most weekdays at 2000

Also, website claims this in red: ``The Overcomer Ministry is
expanding its Shortwave outreach with new 300,000 watt transmitters

transmitters in Florida, Maine, and Tennessee…Not to mention, several
AM/FM stations that cover many regions of the United States. <<CLICK

NO, no chamber music to be heard, rather talk and then some soft songs

their disgraced Facebook site as really Amarillo HomeS, Roofing (Glenn

** U S A. 1580, Aug 21 at 0621 UT, with nearest KOKB Blackwell OK
nulled as much as possible, luck into an ID for ``KHGG-AM 1580 and

UNIDENTIFIED. 1161 kHz, Aug 20 at 0544 UT, quite a het upon 1160 KSL,
but heard on DX-398 only, not R-75, red flag that it`s not really
there. In a quick 9-kHz bandscan I also hear a signal on 774. Both of
them at about the same bearing, 10/190 degrees. Guess what, these are
harmonically related 2 x 387 and 3 x 387 kHz. I do have a JBA carrier
on the fundamental, but surely receiver birdies and not a beacon
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA carrier search, Aug 20 at 0550 hears
some on 621 and 909 kHz, maybe Canary and UK; must beware of local
receiver products on 9-kHz spacing, such as 1161 and 774; also
something NE/SW at 0544 on 1413 kHz, but rather too late for the
superpowers in Moldova, Oman (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1560, Aug 21 at 0623 UT, English talk roughly E/W with
KGOW Vietnamese from the SSE nulled as much as possible, making a SAH
of 140/minute = 2.33 Hz. The only major signals at night are far away,
WFME 50 kW in NYC, Family Radio; and KNZR 10 kW Bakersfield CA,
news/talk (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 13615, Aug 20 at 1403, multitones remind me of the
hybrid DRM from WINB normally on 15115-15120 at this hour; not heard
now but audible on the latter at 1428. Even Hans Johnson of WINB (if
not at WINB) says he does not know what these are; but AFAIK it`s the
only DRM not occupying full 10-kHz bandwidth with noise; also applying
to other WINB frequencies (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. On Aug 19 I sent this to the engineer at
TheClassicalStation.org with a copy to Brad Ferguson at KUCO:

``I usually listen for a while after midnight CDT via KUCO.

For the last few nights there has been quite a problem. The
announcements from WCPE are very low audio level, while the music
levels are fine. This is on a mono-only radio.

I have run into this problem before, and this is what I think is
happening. Studio audio there must have been rewired, so that the mike
is picking up in stereo but is out of phase, which means the left and
right try to cancel each other out (but not quite). KUCO`s own
inserted announcements are OK, so the problem is not at KUCO.

Last night I confirmed this on another radio, a DX-398 which can be
force-switched between mono and stereo reception of KUCO 90.1 off the
air direct. Yes, listening in stereo, WCPE announcements sound OK, but
if I make it mono they are suppressed.

If you always listen in stereo you would not know there is a problem,
but I am sure if you listen to your own signal this way you will find
the same thing. And it is even being fed that way to the satellite
uplink.

Another problem. Long before this I was noticing a lot of background
noise whenever the mike was open, like noisy fans or something in the
studio -- hardly what we expect from a major world broadcaster.

Some but not all announcers also need to be trained in technique of
fading mike pot up and down, rather than switching it on at full
bore.

I hope anyway you will get the phasing fixed so we can hear what they
are saying without straining or turning the volume up and down every
time. Of course there is no point in having any stereo involved with
the announcements.

Since this has gone on for at least three nights, I am surprised if no
one else has noticed and told you about it.

I continue to be very appreciative of WCPE`s service, and have urged
other stations in need of classical to look into it.

Best wishes, Glenn Hauser, Enid OK`` (via gh, DXLD)

Unfortunately a severe storm sprung up here in Stavanger, Norway at

useless inside the steel hull of a ship to hear any signals. I'll try
again next Sunday from St Petersburg, Russia, when the Viking Sea

Confirmed JBA in OK, Sunday August 18 at 2130 on WRMI 7780.

Also confirmed UT Monday Aug 19 at 0130 on WRMI 7780, after Rudy ID,
S9-S8 with HNL; not much stronger on the meter, S9-S7 but *much*
louder & clearer on 9395 which suppresses all but a bit of the HNL
which diminishes above 9 MHz anyway.

Also confirmed UT Mon Aug 19 at 0230 on WRMI 7780 with HNL

Not confirmed UT Mon Aug 19 at 0300 on Area 51 webcast, which is down
(while 7490 is running); earlier at 0230 I found WBCQ 5130.34 was JBA;
and after 0300 even with NB & NR engaged could only detect a JBA

Also confirmed UT Mon Aug 19 at 0330 on WRMI 9955, but JBA at S3-S4,

webcast which autolaunches whether you want it or not, at
http://vietradio.com --- Since KGOW is no longer tightly direxional at
night into the Gulf, I could probably hear it direct, but this hour I
am at the desktop. It`s time to check out the reports of KGOW relaying
Voice of America in Vietnamese, and other languages?

Vietnamese talk continues past hourtop and I do not hear any VOA
opening, but admit to not listening closely and continuously. At 0411
I notice it`s suddenly in English, but alt with Vietnamese during a
language lesson, e.g. at 0416 UT about the expression ``battle of
wills``. At 0422:30 UT, ``This program has come to you from the Voice
of America, Washington``; continues Viet talk presumably local origin.
0428 UT, VOA jingle but does not introduce in English name of next
language; and resumes its Vietnamese (not Chinese, certainly not
Japanese as some have guessed). 0457 again VOA closing announcement in
English, and an adstring including ``Amarillo Home Roofing``, in
Houston, and some other occasional business names in English. Finally
at 0503 UT, legal ID in English, ``Vit Radio on KGOW
Bellaire-Houston``. Yes, they pronounce it Vit rather than Viet: have
we been mispronouncing Vietnam/ all these years??

Earlier I had visited the website, which is partly in English. Also
has incomplete program schedule, of course not including the 11 pm CDT
hour we are concerned with. It implies the same programming is also on
1480 in Dallas; one place showing wrong frequency 1560 for it too.
That would be KNGO.

I do see a couple of other programs of potential interest, since they
are illustrated by a piano quintet (piano plus string quartet), with
the same major title, but a different subtitle on the second:

Mon 3-3:30 pm [2000-2030 UT] (Nhac Thính Phòng [twice] --- which means
CHAMBER MUSIC! [there is also a dot under a of Nhac]; and
Thu 7-8 pm [00-01 UT Fri] Nhac Thính Phòng -- Tình Hát, which means
LOVE SONG. At Google translate, you`d better get the diacriticals
right.

1560, at 0604 UT Aug 19, I check KGOW direct, and can hear its VV
mixing with something in English making a SAH of 160/minute = 2.67 Hz.
Most 1560s are daytimers or well under 100 watts at night with
exception of a few such as KEBC OK with 250 watts; KKAA in SD 10 kW

13890, Aug 17 at 1328, CNR1 jammer JBA but enough to // 12190.

13920, Aug 17 at 1328, JBA probably also CNR1 jammer.

10920, Aug 17 at 1334, CNR1 jammer, S4-S7, only WOOB one found below
the 12s and 13s.

11785, Aug 17 at 1351, a rare Firedragon music jammer, not // CNR1
mostly talk jammers like 12190, S7-S9; off at 1415 check, but still a
JBA carrier. VOA Philippines in Chinese finishes at 1400, then CRI
Chinese via Kashgar, EAST TURKISTAN takes over and does not get jammed
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 9570, Aug 17 at 1313, CRI Plus English relay with drama is
S9+10/20 but suptorted modulation. Something`s always wrong at
RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 13740, Aug 17 at 1327, this RHC is off, while 13700 remains.
Something`s always wrong at RHC.

15140, Aug 17 at 1330, this RHC is off, while a JBA signal remains on
15230. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** CUBA. 11850, Aug 18 at 0027, RHC is suptorted here, which makes the
11840 & 11860 spurs even harder to copy; much better modulation on //
11670, 11700, 11760, and 13740. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PHILIPPINES [non]. 9700, Aug 18 at 0024, S9-S6 fadey talk with that
upward lilt so typical of Burmese --- or rather Kachin, which must be
closely related, as this is the legacy RVA service at 0000-0027
transmitted via VATICAN since RVA quit its own shortwave; and
displaying SMG`s remarkable [cap]ability to serve audiences in the
~opposite direxion, about the closest we can get --- not very! --- to
a VR broadcast to North America direct. Then a suspiciously
Christian-sounding hymn before off (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1995 monitoring: Ivo Ivanov, Sofia,

``Hi Glenn, At last I am hearing World of Radio on 9485 kHz via HLR
here at home again today, though it's very weak and getting splattered
by the Romanian station. I can confirm that it's definitely you
though``

Yes, I have also been hearing me since 1431 via SDR in Finland you
recommended:
http://oh5ae.dyndns.org:8073/
Audible, but still heavy splash from 9490 Romania, while only the
latter can be heard via UTwente SDR.

Also confirmed Sat Aug 17 at 2100 on WRMI 9955, S9-S7, upcut at ``---
1995`` after IS & ID loop which just came on a minute earlier, I
think.

Also confirmed UT Sun Aug 18 at 0130 on WRMI 5850, VG, after ID and a
bit of ``Sandunga`` music fill overlapping.

Also confirmed UT Sun Aug 18 at 0324 underway on WA0RCR, 1860-AM, MO:
I can tell it`s me but too much storm noise S9+20/30 just south of
here in OK to tell where I am in the episode. Next:

** U S A [and non]. Kai Ludwig, Germany, has this Aug 17 response on
the WOR io group to my latest WBCQ AAAWWW report:

Ampegon --- Interesting developments --- First, it would be remarkable
if Weiner indeed lost the warranty also for the transmitter, because
it is a Continental. So has Ampegon delivered this product from a
competitor instead of own equipment?
https://twitter.com/AllanWBCQ/status/1146408801794514945

Then there is this:
https://ampegon.com/news/?id=106

Looks as if the scope of this deal can roughly be described as the
Turgi core business. This should include the product line of shortwave
transmitters, both the manufacturing of new ones (and now a picture
emerges what's really behind the babble about delayed transmitter
delivery from WMLK owners) and spare parts for all the equipment
installed under Ampegon, Thales, Thomcast, Thomson brands in the past.
And also for M2W mediumwave transmitters, for those who still have to
live with one. (Not to be confused with S7HP, which as a French
product is a completely different story.)

A bit mysterious is the mention also of Berlin in this PR, because it
is apparent that the Ampegon businesses in Germany are not included,
in particular the Ludwigshafen antenna division, formerly part of
Mannheim divisions of BBC, ABB, Thomcast. The same goes for what
remained of former Telefunken Sendertechnik, last known as Transradio,
which went bankrupt just two years ago. So much for the integration
that was planned by Ampegon, with the TRAM transmitters being the only
product they wanted to continue because they had, after withdrawing
the ill-fated M2W, no mediumwave transmitters to offer anymore.

I guess some scratching heads takes place now here and there. Kai
Ludwig`` (via Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9955, Aug 17 at 1315, NO signal from this WRMI, which is
supposed to run on Saturdays not only until 1400 but beyond. 9395 is
still on with TOMBS, 7570 with music.

15770, Aug 17 at 1341, no WRMI signal here either, but possibly it`s
propagation as Cuba is barely audible on 15230 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9395, UT Sun Aug 18 at 0100, WRMI with IDs for WTND-LP
Macomb, and ``You`ve got The Edge, WQNA, Springfield``, both in IL, as
Mason Vye in Ontario is opening his hour of nothing but rock music,
presumably obscure Canadian. 0111 testimonial from an Alabama listener
who sounds like he is saying ``Nathan Vay Show``. I see on the doomed
WQNA schedule that `The Mason Vye Show`` is correct when only
scheduled at 1 am [0600 UT] Monday. And on WTND at 7 pm Tuesday [0000
UT Wednesday]. Mason later adds WRMI IDs and is glad to be on SW.
Again this week, 0130-0131 his music rudely interrupted by Radio
Tirana IS and a fragment of their opening theme, before cutting back
to Vye rock. Apparently the automation keeps believing it should start
Albania now like most other nights, then thinx better of it.

As for WQNA being doomed:
https://wqnaradio.org/after-nearly-40-years-wqna-is-nearing-the-end/

And looking at the WTND schedule
http://wtnd.org/schedule/
I see something else familiar: remember Tom & Darryl?

``Friday 8 PM-12 AM [UT Sat 01-05] Tom and Darryl Talk Show -Also on
RFD - Radio Free Dishnuts (Call in at 309-588-4687)
http://dishnuts.net/ --- Tune in to hear Technology talk, music,
discussion and an occasional rant.`` WTND has a listen-live button
which may funxion. Repeats Wed at 16-20 UT on WTND. I am wondering if
WTND got the callsign originally to honor Tom `N` Darryl? (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5085, Sat Aug 17 circa 2320, I am first hearing signs of a
WTWW-2 signal here; QRX for `Theater Organ in the Ozarx` at 2330 ----
NO, rock music, allegedly on request, keeps playing past 2400, also on
the webcast. Maybe Ted got tired of replaying old episodes? And we
know where his musical priorities really lie. That`s OK; tho I love
theatre organ music especially in stereo, this timing always competed
with two or three other things I want to get --- not including pirates
Saturday nights this week since my high line noise level of S9+10/20
is back below 9 MHz! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
