Good suggestion.I myself use a 100 foot coaxial antenna streched between a tree and an old pole and hoisted the leadin on a lower pole and ran it into the arial on my Sangean radio.73's.

Re: [ptsw] Static

Hi Kevin: Sorry to be the bearer of sad news, but any inside antenna is
subject to household noise. Dimmers, timers, florescent fixtures, cheep
Chinese VCRs are all possible sources of noise. If you live in a
multi-dwelling unit, then the neighbor's "stuff" can affect your reception.
If at all possible, get the antenna outside and away from the house. Also,
you'll notice an improvement if you have your antenna joined to a coaxial
cable via a 9:1 balun at the far end and then run the coax under ground up
to the side of your house where it will enter your home's listening area.
Have an 8 foot ground rod at the far end and connect the primary side of the
balun to it as well as the outer shield of the coax. Most import -
Disconnect your antenna from your radio when not in use, and ground this
connector. Hope this helps you rid yourself of some static. Good listening:

I made myself an indoor antenna. 34 ft copper wire, with an attachment
to the radio via the wire port on the back of the unit. Whats the best
way to get rid of the static? Do I need to purchase anything else to
rid or control the static? Would an Aligator clip to the units main
antenna work? And does the ground wire need to be a certain length?
Thanks.

Well,Kevin, what i used to eliminate static on the old Uniden CR2021 was take a fair amount of copper wire, attach one end to the ground terminal, take the other end, bury into ground with a small peice of thin metal pipe or use an old broken antenna rod and you should see an improved strength in signals.Let me know if this works! 73's

Wow, was not expecting a email like this. Yes, my name
is Art and I was raised in California. However that is
were the similiarities end. I joined the Navy,
spending most of my time overseas and retired in 1993.
Then I moved to Nevada and settled down. I'm sorry to
hear that someone stoled your hat. Finally, I don't
know anyone by the name of James Arnett. I'm believe
you have confused me with someone else. However it
sounds like we could share a few stories and become
friends. This email has came through the PTSW group
which is a shortwave listening hobbyist group. You are
welcome to hang around a bit and check it out. By the
way, what is your name? Best Regards.

There are some significant changes here. No more 12050 for Arabic, which has
been a mainstay for long hours daily. Apparently its replacement is 9960,
and/or 6290, maintaining its band-edge tradition. Cairo is not at all reluctant
to invade the maritime band above 6200 with no less than four frequencies
adding up to almost 28 hours a day.

English to Europe moves down from 9990 to 6250, at 2115-2245, as well as all
the other languages earlier. The first English to NAm at 2300-2430 is missing!
However, I suspect it is really on 9465, then Arabic at 0030-0430. Second
English to NAm at 0200-0330 remains on 7270.

Spanish at 0045-0200 shifts from 6135 to 6140. This is a very dirty
transmitter, which will involve a new interference situation. // 9600 is likely
to collide with Habana [not in HFCC] unless something changes, not to mention
XEYU 9599.3v if and when it reactivates (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
