Re: [ptsw] Radio Japan schedule change?

Glenn Hauser

Wrong. The 11705 transmission in English is at 1400-1429 UT (which is 2300
JST). To answer the original question, yes, NHK`s cuts are a lot like BBC`s of
a few years ago. At least NHK has not yet cut off English to North America on
SW.

Since a lot of ptsw info comes from or via DX Listening Digest anyway, may I
suggest that you read it there first? This should make it less necessary to ask
questions which have already been answered.

Sorry Noble,

That was actually the first time I had posted, even though I have been recieving group E-Mail since it switched to yahoo and before. I just haven't had time to read them all to keep up with the regular member posts. I will try to do better. Anyway, back to the subject.

I have a big V outside with coax running inside the house with a variable attenuator in line. I have noticed I can turn the signal all the way down and still get a little signal to the radio. The thing is that coax has a lot of shielding that is designed to filter out outside signals and keep the signal inside stay there.
The signal I was getting must have come from the little end on the coax.

Now using the shielding of the coax for an antenna is another matter...

I saw the schedule change on the Radio Japam web site today. The
broadcast I used to listen to was 1 hour to North and Latin America.
They no longer have any English service to Latin America. Does this
also signal the start of bigger cut backs in service like the BBC did
in 2006? Denny Dollahon.

This is Noble not"Kevin".Thanks for the information.Would you know if putting a leadin to the arial will work? I tried it but signals were weaker.I know the RS antenna is fine for portables, but one could get better reception with a steel based antenna.I had a CB radio that worked better with an outdoor rod whip,so,the antenna i use on SW is a typical 100 foot Coax(75 ohms) coaxial television cable. It has worked for many years since moving to my current QTH in 1993.Good Luck with your project and 73's!

It's possible. The new schedule is in effect and they cut nearly every broadcast to halfhours including English via Sackville. You can still hear them on 11705 in the afternoon. Also on 6 megahertz in the evening.Good Luck and 73's

I use a simple 100 foot coax antenna for my Sangean ATS818ACS reciever,It seems to filter out unwanted signals quite well.but it will reduce selectivity and sensativity by about sixty percent.I did use a Radioshack pocket antenna.I may need to go back to it since we are getting into midseason with the sun setting early and darkness is much earlier in our evenings here in Tennessee.Good Luck with your project.73's!

Steel for electric fence wire is galvanized AND relatively inexpensive if you can buy it in small enough rolls.

There is also steel or aluminum wire that is used as electric fence wire on ranches and farms that is very effective.  I am in the process of adding more length to my cooper wire antenna and will use this as an add on to increase the length of the antenna to 150 feet in an L shape pointed south.

I took it home and put a clip on it and cut it down to about 45 feet to
fit in my reel. I was pleased with it and started using it. I didn't notice
it at first but I was getting the same reception from it as I was from
the whip. I tried it both ways, with and without and it was the same.
I found a short 6ft. piece of 26 guage steel stranded wire and wrapped
one end around the whip and my signal doubled compared to 6ft. of the
new wire which I had laid out next to each other for a good compare. I have
just ordered some copper coated steel wire that is listed as antenna
wire and I will see how it does.

Radio Japan schedule change?

Denny Dollahon <ddollahon@...>

Does anyone know if Radio Japan has changed their broadcast schedules?
I listen to their broadcast to North American on 9535 KHz at 17:00 UTC.
When I tuned in both this Tuesday and Thursday (local California time)
there was a broadcast in Japanese up to 17:00, then they went off the
air. It also seems during the day that the 31 meter band is better to
listen to than frequencies above 12000 KHz. Is this due to the change
of seasons or propogation? Denny Dollahon.
