Glenn Hauser

** ANTARCTICA. 15476-, Oct 15 at 1410, JBA carrier from LRA36, so on
the air this Tuesday; also reported later from Spain by Manuel Méndez
at 1601 past 1835; and also Wed Oct 16 when I did not get a carrier,
at *1307-1414* per MM (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CANADA. 15034-USB, Oct 15 at 1413, Trenton Military, ``time 1410
zulu``, ``no report received`` from everywhere; still distorted. So
clock is also 3 minutes slow. This thing has been on autopilot for
over a week; obviously no human is paying any attention to what is
going into or outof it. Have they not received any complaints from
genuine pilots needing to hear it?

Also Oct 16 at 1402, more NRRs, and 1403 ``Trenton Military, Out`` so
maybe 1400 is a scheduled break time in its scheduling. BTW they never
utter the listed CHR callsign (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6100, Oct 15 at 0609, RHC English is S9+20 but wasting all
that power to be just barely modulated; 6165 is JBA; 6000 & 5040 are
off. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** CUBA. 5040.051, Oct 16 at 0209, this RHC is still off-frequency,
suptorted and squealing, yet S9+10/20. Something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO [and non]. 1090, Oct 16 at 0604 UT, colchón (mattress) ad in
Spanish, but keeps going past 0609, an infomercial and mentions being
a TV offer. Roughly south with KAAY nulled at first during its dead
air. Anyhow, no sign of KEXS 10 kW MO daytimer which had been
all-nightly for quite a while. The SS is most likely XEAU Monterrey
NL, or maybe XEWL Nuevo Laredo, Tamps., but neither is supposed to be
on now per sked in IRCA Mexican Log: XEAU until 0600, XEWL until 0200;
even allowing for DST, Mex skeds are notoriously unreliable (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) See also UNIDENTIFIED 1130

** SAUDI ARABIA. 17895, Oct 15 at 1437, Qur`an here but no signals on
17705, 17615+. However, Chris Krug, Tulsa, was hearing all three two
days and an hour earlier:

``Hi Glenn, I copied Saudi Arabia on 17615, 17705 and 17895 (1340-
1352) on Oct 13, 17615 was weakest, followed by 17705 with 17895
being the best. Interesting that 17705 carried different programing
than 17615 (the FT-1000mp Mk5 has 2 separate receivers making it handy
to check such things). 73 Chris KC5IIE``

17895v, Oct 16 at 1404, Qur`an is JBA and today also stronger 17615+,
always off-frequency+plus, but nothing on 17705. Seems sporadic
operation/closing times on different frequencies (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 356 kHz, Oct 16 at 0555, ND beacon ODX, which is 25 watts
from Ord, Nebraska. 293, FBY Fairbury NE also in at 0549 with 25 watts
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. Last scheduled SW airings of WORLD OF RADIO 2003: Wed Oct 16
at 2100 on WBCQ 7490v; UT Thu Oct 17 at 0100 on WRMI 7780 (Glenn
Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9330, Oct 15 at 1953, no signal from WBCQ-6, despite AW`s
twit today that it would test again from 1930. However, retune 2000
now WLC is opening but only S7-S4, must be on 60 degree antenna.
Retune at 2200 is off, but *2200:50 VG S9+30 another hour of Miles &
Dave conversing as if they weren`t crazy. Must have just rotated
antenna thisaway, not a time previewed to change it. By 2250 already
playing interval vamp music of doomsday orchestral tune over and over,
heavy on the `celli, straight thru with no break until 2300, another
WLC hour in English, this one with preaching. 2357 vamp music again;
0001 UT Oct 16 Miles & Dave with a different hour. Not checked again
until 0202 when 9330 is dead air of S9+10/S9 burning 500 kW for
nothing; unknown when offturned or outfaded but inaudible by 0229.

Latest twit today Oct 16 says again will be testing from 1930;
yesterday he said, ``Transmitter on and off. Zapping bugs?``. Where`s
the Arabic? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1010, Oct 15 at 1330 UT, detailed ag report, cattle auxions,
Fargo mentioned? 1337 switch to another market report by same speaker,
1338 ad for something in Sterling-Brush-Fort Morgan, so this is KSIR,
licensed to Brush, address in Ft Morgan CO, U4 25000/280 watts. Now
day since 1300 UT (Nov: 1345). Day and night patterns from NE CO are
figure-8 E/WSW, not good for here to the SE. Some 20+ years ago, KSIR
was a WORLD OF RADIO affiliate (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A. 1150, Oct 16 at 1247 UT, Spanish looping slightly CCW from
E/W; Ad with 623-area code, ``Radio [two syllables]``; fast SAH with
KSAL? at right angle, romantic song. 623 is one of the *five* ACs in
central Arizona, so this is KCKY Coolidge, in NRC AM Log as SS:REL,
Radio Casa, U4 5/1 kW. Both day and night patterns are sort of
figure-8 with the side notches toward me! This is just after sunrise
here so obviously well before SR there (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A. 1490, Oct 15 at 1322 UT, weather, ``Fabulous KDMO Morning
Show``, ``Red Sails in the Sunset``, i.e. Carthage MO in the SW
corner, briefly dominating the jungle around sunrise with NOS format
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1550, Oct 15 at 1315 UT, NPR Morning Edition // but not
synch with delayed for IBOC 91.7 KOSU. Has to be KUAZ Tucson, 50 kW ND
daytimer. Oh2, official FCC October sunrise is not until 1330
(November: 1400). Anyhow, always great to hear a public radio station
on AM, of which there are vanishingly few especially around here
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Awake by 1215 UT October 16 presunrise 1239, I might as
well do a Trans-Pacific JBA MW carrier scan, on the DX-398 for DFing,
and wow, are there lots of them. Those with no direxion are too weak
or more likely both NW and WSW. If a beat is detectable, (2).

774 and 747 are strong enough to detect some talk by W voice, but will
not assume Japanese, since could be during NHK language lesson.

774-NW, 765(2), 756-NW, 747-NW, 738-NW, 729-NW, 711-NW, 702-NW (2),
693-NW, 675-NW, 666-NW, 657-NW>WSW (2), 621-NW, 612-NW, 603-NW,
594-NW, 585-WSW, 567(2), 558-NW.

Now from 1226, upward from 774: 792-NW, 828-NW, 837, 846, 864-NW,
873-NW, 882-NW, 891, 918-NW, 972-NW, 981-NW, 1017-WSW, 1035-WSW&NW,
1044-NW, 1053, 1098-W&NW, 1134-NW, 1143-NW, 1197-NW, 1206-NW, 1287-NW,
1296, 1331-NW, 1413-NW, 1422, 1476, 1503-WSW, 1548-WSW, 1566-NW, until
1241.

1206 was noticeably off-frequency-minus. MWoffsets suggests:
1205.96 CHN Yanbian RGD Korean News General (Yanji/Longjing) 2000-1600
2016-08-09`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1130, Oct 16 at 0556 UT, Spanish past 0600, nulling KWKH
favors SW, but now peaking this signal at SSW rather than SW, further
pointing to the new XECHAP, Chapingo EdoMex; see report of Oct 14
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6120-USB, Oct 15 at 0608, 2-way in Spanish INTRUDERS
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 15182-USB, Oct 15 at 1400, 2-way in Spanish INTRUDERS
despite 15180-AM signal which is getting more QRM from 15182-U than
vice versa, i.e. R. Liberty, Uzbek via Woofferton (Glenn Hauser, OK,

Glenn Hauser logs October 10-13-14-15, 2019

Glenn Hauser

** CUBA. 5040.051, Oct 13 at 0028, RHC IS and Portuguese!
undermodulated, with squeal, and splatter from super signal of 5050
WWRB which is fortunately on only two nights a week. Unusual for this
or any RHC channel to be off-frequency; and supposed to be going from
Creole to French at 0030. WRTH of a year ago showed Portuguese on
15730 at 0030-0100, but currently not later than 2330-2400 per EiBi
and Aoki. Something`s always wrong at RHC. [Date correct: overlooked
for previous report, reminded by this:]

5040.051, Oct 15 at 0123, RHC off-frequency again, remeasured exactly
the same; correct language after 0100 Spanish, S9-S7, undermodulated
with squeal. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 4765, Oct 15 at 0128, Radio Progreso is S9+10 but JBM vs
CODAR swishes. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 94.1, Oct 14 at 1957 UT on caradio in western Enid,
gospel rock, something new? Not usually a semi-local here adjacent to
KLGB-LP 94.3. 2000 UT, multi-station ID for The House FM, starting
with KJTH 89.7 Ponca City but a local signal into Enid. Full stations
include call, location and frequency; translators only location and
frequency --- and 94.1 is *never* mentioned for any of them.

WTFDA Database soon finds the nearest 94.1, not far WNW of Enid:
KTHM 94.1 WAYNOKA OK 9.8 9.8 122.0 122.0 36-34-55 98-52-12 VARIETY

This makes no connexion whatsoever to The House network or KJTH, but
note the `TH` they try to include in all their callsigns.

Phones in 530 area code? I don`t think so: that`s the NE corner of
CALIFORNIA, while Oklahoma around Enid is 580!

As above and here note the license expires in only 2.55 years; why?
http://licensing.fcc.gov/prod/cdbs/pubacc/Auth_Files/1795010.pdf

I really don`t think 94.1 has been on air since last November, rather
quite recently, so much so that HQ has not got around to adding it to
their ID spiel! I soon confirm on two radios that 94.1 is // 89.7 and
synchronized. ``Variety`` format seems like a cop-out, hardly does it
justice; like KJTH 89.7 it`s ``Christian CHR/Rock``

(and they were even playing imposing that today in Enid`s last
remaining Chinese buffet (also pizza, tamales, sushi), Chen Garden in
the almost-vacant Oakwood Mall --- but even so far inside the struxure
alee from it, KOSU penetrated quite well into our G8 and headset,
overriding the PA).

Of course they have a website:
https://www.thehousefm.com/

``Listen to The House FM on 89.7 OKC to Wichita • 88.5 OKC Metro •
100.1 Wichita • 89.1 Seminole• 105.9 Stillwater • 100.1 Edmond • 105.7
Bartlesville • 89.3 Altus • 89.9 Elk City / Clinton • 94.5 Pawhuska •
94.3 Shawnee • 93.9 Ada • 101.7 Lawton • 106.1 Sulphur • 94.1 Alva •
89.7 HD1 Northern Oklahoma``

There is 94.1, attributed to Alva, a slightly larger town not too far
from Waynoka. RL coverage map shows the cross right in Waynoka; Alva
barely within the ``local`` contour while Enid is slightly beyond the
``fringe`` contour (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY. 9830, Oct 14 at 2233, Voice of Turkey the best heard in a
long time, VG S9-S7 but some fades to S4, at ``Did You Know That``
either opening or closing of program as they play the same musical
intros and outros for everyshow. Some hum, no RTTY QRM now. Perhaps
Turkey decided they`d better get their propaganda machine in order to
support Ottoman imperialism (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. Last two twits by AW as of 23 UT Oct 14, tipped by Artie
Bigley:

``Allan Weiner‏ @AllanWBCQ Oct 13
Superstation hits the air tomorrow at 3:30pm eastern on 9330khz.
Beaming worldwide with genuine 500kw of radio power. WLC programming 7
hours daily. Have a listen. ``

Allan Weiner‏ @AllanWBCQ 11h11 hours ago
Worlds Superstation hits the air at 3:30 pm eastern time, 19:30 UTC.
Worlds Last Chance Ministry programming. Have a listen and report in.
wbcq@.... Beaming 60 degrees for 4 hours then 274 degrees. Should
be fun at 500 kw. 22db antenna gain. Quite an ERP. Free speech radio
WBCQ 0 replies 0 retweets 7 likes

WTFK? O, he mentioned it yesterday, but not today. Nothing on 9330
when bandscanning circa 2230 UT Oct 14, nor 12120 which had since been
registered.

Nor on 11730, as headstart on B-19, yet another new frequency never in
use, per Ivo via Richard Lemke:

``USA Winter B-19 frequencies of WBCQ-6 Super Power Station:
1300-1857 on 15330 BCQ 500 kW / 060 deg to N/ME Arabic
1900-0057 on 11730 BCQ 500 kW / 060 deg to N/ME Arabic
0100-0457 on 9330 BCQ 500 kW / 060 deg to N/ME Arabic
0500-0657 on 9330 BCQ 500 kW / 300 deg to CAN English
0700-0857 on 9330*BCQ 500 kW / 057 deg to WeEu English
0900-1257 on 9330 BCQ 500 kW / 255 deg to MEX English
*0700-0750 on 9330 Spanish Sun/Mon/Wed/Fri Cuban Spy HM01``

But 9330.00 is certainly on at next check 0120 Oct 15, S9+30 gospel
huxter in English, quoting Daniel. At 0158 WLC vamp music but now
declined to only S9-S7 with deep fades; unless antenna swivel away
from us, even 500 kW cannot overcome dropping MUF. 0200 quick AW legal
ID, and re-opening Worlds Last Chance Radio, apocalyptic advisory and
into same two flat-earth guys pretending to speak reasonably that we
first heard in the initial tests many months ago. So what are the real
hours and azimuths of these transmissions? Maybe AW took my advice to
go ahead with 9330 even if they can`t yet comeup on higher
frequencies; oops (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7505, Oct 15 at 0132, WRNO is S9+20/30 but just barely
modulated lady gospel huxter. It`s really incredible how many SW
stations think JBM is sufficient! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A. Typo correxion: WWBA of course, not WBAA; fixed:

820, Oct 10 at 0052 UT, WBAP still has QRM with slow SAH, somewhat
audible when nulled, WWBA singing ID just before 0100, as Largo FL
station is *still* obviously on 50 kW day power instead of 1 kW night.
If they have a legit problem switching to night power and
pattern, they should just turn it off! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF
RADIO 2003, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CANADA. 15034-USB, Oct 14 at 1438, Trenton Military, CHR, **still**
``no report received`` from Zagreb, Split. Are those airports of
particular significance for Canadian Forces? Tough luck (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA [non]. 1580, Oct 14 at 1438 UT, KOKB Blackwell still off
the air like yesterday afternoon, uncovering two weak signals making a
fast SAH -- most likely next-closest KHGG AR with KGAF Gainesville TX,
or maybe KFCS Colorado Springs, 10 kW ND daytimer two hours after SR
here, and well after its 1315 UT sunrise (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 88.2V, Oct 14 circa 0530 UT, big hum and intermittent
signal jumping around. At first I fear my tiny FM feeder transmitter
is acting up, normally tuned to 88.1 output; no, not that. Now I think
it must be K202BY, the 88.3 Family Radio translator for Enid, which
has had all kinds of problems, off the air recently. The hum sometimes
can be heard as low as 87.7 up to 88.4 at least. This disrupts
reception of 88.1 KWOU. Tnx a lot, Harold! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 17895.021, Oct 14 at 1432, Qur`an at S9, typical
inexact frequency, but MUF is looking up. How about the other two 16m
Sa`udis, 17615v and 17705? NO signals from either, but all three are
supposed to be on. 17895.021 is in fact the SSOB, beyond JBA carriers
on 17770 Turkey and 17605 Austria --- and no signal from 17775 KVOH
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1130, Oct 14 at 0555 UT, ``tropical`` music from SW/NE,
as KWKH Shreveport is unusually weak and easily nulled. Spanish on
this frequency unusual; 0557 UT timecheck for 12:57, so in UT-5 CDT

direxion; closest Mexidirexion would be XEHN Nogales, Sonora but UT
-7. IRCA Mexican Log has two other iffies in Guanajuato, Michoacán,

in correct timezone:

during a TP MW carrier bandscan and DFed to WSW/ENE, but overlooked
reporting then. Most likely out of an adjacent- or possibly
second-adjacent state, such as KBST Big Spring TX. KZZN Littlefield

1501 French announcement, as the marine weather special continues for

unreadable. Supposed to be mixed with English. Richard Langley heard
it better today via UTwente SDR despite proximity to Issoudun: ``First
yachts expected to complete the first leg of the race tomorrow

not until November? So they have to kill time in the Islas? (Glenn

bet it`s Wolverine Radio. After ``True to Myself`` song, 0040 yes, ID
Wolverine Radio with echoechoecho--- and SSTV during which I hear some
JBA talk under, another pirate? Or more likely fifth harmonic of my
strongest local 1390 KCRC, which can sometimes be detected in absence
of pirates. 0042 ID once, more music; 0047 ``White Sports Coat``, 0049
ID, 0054 `White Shade of Pale`, so the keyword must be white; 0058 ID,
0103 QRM de VFO sweeping, 0107 ID, 0112 clicking QRM, 0113 ID. Recheck

** U S A. 13565-CW, Oct 12 at 1410, HIFER beacon K6FRC is on a roll,
audible again today. Whew, Cuban FM spur is just far enough away
around 13570. This happens to be right at its local sunrise time, but
of course refraxion patch halfway to here has been insolated for an
hour or so. Patterson, 2010y population 20K, is still too
insignificant to make it on gaisma.com`s long list of CA localities;
closest bigger city is Modesto; now how about all those other HIFERs

I don`t get the computer on in time to check UTwente, but own SW gets
a JBA carrier on 9490, so presumed RRI blasting into Europe unlike
missing last week. Shortly Alan Gale reports from England:

``Hi Glenn, Very strange conditions on 9485 kHz today. HLR was a very
good signal and no sign of splatter from 1300 to around 1432 UT, but
then the signal went right down just after your segment started. I
could tell you were there right up to the sign off at 1500, but the
signal wasn't strong enough to read anything other than the opening
part with the details of it being programme 2003. So it's back to the
usually very strong IRRS broadcast on 7290 kHz [1816.5 UT] on Monday
for me again then. Alan``

** U S A. 1680, Oct 12 at 1235 and still at 1249 UT, dead air looping
SE/NW, surely KRJO Monroe LA, the usual dominator. Initially atop some
other weak modulator(s), likely remnant of WPRR MI, maybe KGED CA. The
only other three 1680 Unitedstatesians never heard here, from WA, FL,
NJ.

BTW a DXer in Bâton Rouge told me Oct 7 that his local pirate, Radio
Retén Lo Que Tienes has reactivated but on 1690 instead of 1710; which
will make it much tougher to DX. Maybe nulling WVON early evening
before KDMT fade-in. See:
https://www.radioretenloquetienes.com/radio-tv-live/
Pretty snazzy website. One of the slides in their show mentions 1690
AM, but I don`t see an FM frequency anywhere, ``Radio`` is 24/7 but
not clear if that means 1690 and/or websteam audio/video (gh)
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 17850, Oct 12 at 2127, JBA carrier which I again suspect be
the third harmonic of 5950 WRMI. For the next 5+ minutes I struggle to
match traces of audio with 5950 on another receiver, and am almost
certain that`s it: music going to Brother Scare talk. 17850 registers
just S1 on the NRD-545 meter, better than the ambient noise level of
S-0.5. If #5 transmitter were better modulated, that could make the
difference on X3. 5950 is now TOMBS at 11-24 UT, 285 degrees, second
most favorable azimuth for here at 315. Sporadic E responsible, as
15770 WRMI-9 is much stronger than usual, offside of its alleged 44
degree beam; meant to check 6m DXMap ASAP, but still at 2318 there`s
one 31 MHz MUF blob over Biloxi, just about right for a skip from
Okeechobee. Normally JBA 13845 & 15825 WWCR also getting a big boost
from Es at 2120 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, a good idea as Jim
Renfrew, NY has been reporting lots of stuff now and recently: this on
the handheld DX-398 to be sure they DF approx. NE if not SW, but
facing lots of splatter from those pesky North Americans on even
frequencies:

612, 621, 693, 774, 783, 837, 855, 882, 936(2), 999, 1017, 1053, 1062,
1089, 1125, 1179, 1215, 1296(2), 1305, 1413, 1422, 1502, 1512.

(I also have off-frequency-minus hets below 774 and 1548, but as
previously divined, those two are harmonically related to each other
and to 387-, so something local; never mind) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9557.0-USB, Oct 12 at 2109, 2-way in Spanish INTRUDERS,

** U S A [and non]. 15580, Friday October 11 at 2049, VOA `The Africa
Beat` music and DJ, poor-fair S5-S7, but better than usual. BOTSWANA
relay is on here until 2200, presumably still with `Music Time in
Africa` weekly Fridays during next hour from 2100. In B-seasons only,
MTIA has been on Greenville 15580, and in B-19 we regain Grimesland B
during the final hour only, but on new 11720. That should be good for
us off the back from almost due east azimuth with a smaller skip zone
and less challenge to the MUF (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2003 monitoring: confirmed first SWBC, Friday
October 11 at 2200 on WRMI 9955, S9 with flutter fading to S6 --
propagation disturbance? But the other WRMIs on 9455 and 9395 are
strong and steady, no such fluxuation. Maybe something amiss with the
9955 transmitter. By 2321 recheck its carrier beneath the jamming now
sounds nominal.

Also confirmed UT Saturday October 12 at 0130 on WRMIs: 5850 to the
NW, VG S9+20; checked at 0156, 7780 to the NE is JBA S5-S6 noisy, 5010
to the S is better, S9/S9+10, somewhat undermodulated and also noisy.

** U S A. (7490), UT Sat Oct 12 at 0000, I`m tuned in to the WBCQ
webcast for AAAWWW; bits of other music until 0002 when `William Tell
Overture` theme finally plays; sounds lo-fi as if from a remote
location. Opening remarx about ``all the crap going on`` so I know we
are in for a political rant. Mentions that A&A are now in DeLand of
FLA, so our suspicion about their absence last week was correct,
getting out of ME before it freezes. Quickly interrupted by a call
from Hal Turner who already has his own show expanded to 6 hours a
week, so more politix are coming.

I don`t pay attention until 0028 when he changes to station info: The
SuperStation is fine, operational, except for transmitter tuning
problem. Factory tuned it to two frequencies, getting it to run on
higher bands is not easy, and the transmitter manufacturer
[CONTINENTAL] has not been coöperative; all they care about is money;
after spending millions of dollars already, nothing but bills and
trouble from them. ``So tired of it!`` Needs higher frequencies on 12,
13, 15, 17 MHz to reach North Africa and area. The antenna is perfect
but the transmitter --- ``I don`t want to say it`s a lemon.`` The
company has [had?] a great reputation, but now they send outrageous
invoices and the wrong people.

AW then calls for any good engineers out there to apply to WBCQ. They
are getting harder and harder to find, those who can deal with
high-voltage equipment. Engineering is tiring, hard work, with poor
pay, but satisfying. All SW stations are having such problems. [Maybe
Bob Biermann could help?]. Suggests that TimTron and Tom Barna are of
an age to be thinking about retirement.

Then he goes over the 7490 program schedule, day by day, hour by hour
(with quite a few omissions). When he gets to Wednesday at 5 pm
EASTERN, he takes note of Glenn`s 2,000 World of Radio programs ---
``that`s something --- that`s pretty good. Glenn, although crotchety,
we love you``.

Thursday evening, VORW has canceled, so there`s an opening. At 0047
the webcast starts dropping out (silent but still playing); maybe he
covers the 5130 schedule next? Running again by 0050 as he goes thru
the just published latest issue of Free Radio Weekly, about SW and FM
pirates (Bay City MI is in Michigan, BTW, not Minnesota = MN).

Wrapping up at 0057, mentions this show is only on 7490, something
else on 5130 (and meshes with my obs earlier of no signals on 9330,
6160 or 3265; why not?). Soon into benedixion, mentioning Brother
Stair whom they visited on the way to FLA; and seems he is really
trying to wind up by 0100 since Hal Turner now follows.

I say, it may not be convenient, but as long as the 500 kW won`t
coöperate and the rotatable antenna is fine, why not connect one of
the old transmitters to it; huge gain would make a big difference even
with only ``50`` kW. Anyhow it seems the S-S will funxion at least on
9330, so why not make the most of that?

Now over to John Carver for his version of: ``Tonight's AAWWW --- Show
started about a minute late on 7490 this evening. Allan and Angela in
the studio in FLA. Opens with a phone call from Hal Turner at 0005
talking about Syria and then lots of political talk. Hal Turner also
said something about California trying to do away with ham radio.
Another phone call at 0019 which was also political.

Allan said the superstation was fine and the antenna was perfect but
there is a problem tuning the transmitter to the higher frequencies
that they need to use. Says it's a design flaw. They're working with
the factory trying to resolve things but he says the factory keeps
sending the wrong people to do the work and is charging them
outrageous fees to do so. He came very close to calling the
transmitter a lemon. Says the world needs more transmitter engineers
and asked the listening audience if there were any transmitter
engineers listening to the program that would like to come and work in
Maine.

Then he went through the program schedule for the station which I
couldn't keep up with and was also marred by a series of internet feed
dropouts. One lasting for two minutes. When audio came back Allan was
starting to read the Free Radio Weekly and then went into other
emails. Closing prayer at 0058 and program was cut off at 0059. John,

** CHINA. 11100, Oct 11 at 1328 JBA Chinese; 10920 JBA carrier. Both
are Aoki-listed CNR-1 *jammed Sound of Hope frequencies. No exhaustive
bandscan for more today, so these will have to suffice (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 5040, Oct 11 at 0611, RHC is still on at S9+20 but dead air.
Other English frequencies: 6000 still on but undermodulated; 6100
S9+30/40 somewhat suptorted; 6165 off. Something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 13700, Oct 11 at 1320, RHC is off while 13740 is on, so no
spurs today --- wait, at 1324, 13700 is on late or after a break,
producing FMish spurblobs circa 13767, JBA on 13838, trace on 13637.
The F# tone is best heard in FM mode only. 13700 itself is
undermodulated and only S9+10 while 13740 is fully modulated at S9+30.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** CUBA. 9570, Oct 11 at 1401, CRI plus English relay is still on
late; so what about 11880? Also on but dead air until brings up
modulation at 1404; then I check 9570 again and it has gone off.
Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** CUBA. 9615-9670, Oct 11 at 1406, approx. buzz field range out of
9640 RHC; worst peaks circa 9631 and 9649. Something`s always wrong at
RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING IIGEST)

** MEXICO. 710.00, Oct 11 at 1157, W&M in Spanish discussing crime
news in Chihuahua; no ID or break at ToH, 6:02 timecheck at 1202 UT.
Nor any national anthem which most XEs play around 6 am local. It`s
XEDP, Ciudad Cuauhtémoc. Same W still audible at 1242 with 6:43 TC.
IRCA Log says has been off-frequency -185 Hz for years, but not now,
nor has it been lately. Very close to the QRM, KGNC/KCMO. Believe this
is one I researched a few years ago in FCC database as having two
different transmitter sites, so presumed one of them is seldom-used
off-frequency, backup? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING IIGEST)

** U S A. Remember, first SW airings of new WORLD OF RADIO 2003 should
be on RMI Friday at 2200 on 9955; UT Saturday 0130 on 5010, 5850, 7780
(Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9455, Oct 11 at 0608, WRMI-8 is still on with Brother Scare.
As part of great expansion of BS hours on WRMI, #8 is now running 24
hours with BS at all times except previously active: 19-21 M-F APS
Radio; and 01-03 UT Thu only with Hal Turner. This disregards other
stations` usage of 9455: as of Oct 11, HFCC still shows WRMI only at
01-05; other times Saudi Arabia, Guam, Taiwan, China, Japan.
9455 also Oct 11 at 1355 with instrumental gospel music, something
else? No, // 9395 and soon BS resumes speaking. Both are on 355 degree
antennas, wasteful but BS has money to burn for WRMI.

7780, WRMI-1 is now also scheduled 24 hours, including TOMBS at 03-14
and 17-20. VP at 1409 sounds like BS, probably also this hour on
weekdays since SMTV runs on Sat, Sun only. BTW, We also see where
RAE`s missing German broadcast has gone: 7780 at 16-17, not specified
but presumably M-F only (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1110, Oct 11 at 1250 UT, talk in S Asian language, best with
KFAB nulled. Of course, it`s KVTT Mineral Wells (The Metroplex) TX,
listed merely as ``Asian`` format. Don`t hear this often; is 50 kW
daytimer but now would be reduced to only 39 kW Critical Hours. D4 in
NRC AM Log means different antenna pattern during CH than in daytime
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Pacific JBA MW carrier search, Oct 11 before LSR
of 1235 UT; first check at 1158 on 774 finds a good one from the NW.

At 1204-1223, bandscan on the DX-398, so I can DF whether NW from E
Asia or WSW from Australia/New Zealand+. Some without an angle were
too weak to tell, or more likely an even mix of both. In some cases a
beat could be heard between stations a few Hz apart (2).

594-NW, 603, 612-NW, 657, 693-NW, 702(2)-WSW>NW, 747-NW, 756-NW,
774-NW, 792(2)-WSW, 828-NW, 837, 864-NW, 873-NW, 882(2)-WSW>NW,
945-NW, 972-NW, 1035-WSW, 1044-NW, 1053-NW, 1098-W, 1116-NW,
1125(2)-WSW>NW, 1134-NW, 1143-NW>WSW, 1197-NW, 1287-NW, 1314-NW,
1332-NW, 1422-WSW, 1557-NW, 1566-NW. There could have been even more,
obscured by splash from North Americans 1 or 2 kHz away.

At 1232 I switch to the R75 with E-W longwire, so no DFing but a bit
more gain: 774 has trace of Japanese audio. Then sweep at 1234-1240,
JBA carriers on: 891, 882, 873, 864, 846, 837, 828, 774, 756, 747,
738, 729, 702(2), 693, 666, 657, 612, 594, 567, 558; this spanned LSR
1235, until 1238. Also after sunrise: 1125, 1134, 1143, 1566 at 1240

UNIDENTIFIED. 9345-9350-9355, Oct 11 at 1356-1400+, sounds like DRM
noise, S9-S7 with some fading. At first suspected NF for WINB as not
heard on 15115-15120-15125, but this is full 10-kHz, not WINB`s hybrid
5+5 with data on lower half. Nothing in HFCC or Aoki to account for
this in DRM or AM. Later at 1505, I do detect WINB DRM around 15117;
and by now maybe a trace left on 9350. Wonder if it`s one of the DVR
(Far East Russia) experiments? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 13767 approx., Oct 10 at 1338, RHC struggles to modulate
programming in FM beyond the F# tone; out of 13700-AM, which is much
weaker than 13740 today. At first only a trace on the matching
minusside 13633, but much improved at 1406. Something`s always wrong

** FRANCE. 13730, Oct 10 at 1529, JBA trace of talk, presumably
Issoudun as temporarily scheduled with yachtweather 1500 daily for the
Mini-Transat race from France to Gran Canaria which launched Oct 5. No
trace of DRM noise on 15300 as sked and no point in trying to hear the
49mb frequencies here (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** IRELAND. 13263.95-USB, Oct 10 at 1332, YL in English with flight
weather for Luxembourg, etc. 1335 ID twice as Shannon VOLMET. Without
a carrier to pinpoint, she sounds almost human, better slightly below
than on nominal 13264 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1610, Oct 10 at 2008 UT, parked at Oakwood Mall, getting
more and more vacant, west side of Enid, noisy carrier here compared
to 1620 open on the caradio. On a portable also without BFO, loops
roughly NW/SE, which could point to the TIS at Great Salt Plains, near
Jet OK; but this is stronger than normally marginally audible in this
part of town; yet no NWS weather relay or any modulation. Later at
home I do detect a JBA daytime carrier roughly NNW/SSE. This axis
could also lead to something on Vance AFB in the opposite direxion
where its last TIS was on 530, not 1610. What next? (Glenn Hauser,

legal ID keyed in, again covers up OPEN captioning translation from
Arabic talk to English text on PBS documentary via OETA World, 13-2. I
complain again to OETA about this, begging them to move the ID to top
of screen. They say instead will reduce it from 30 seconds to 10 --- a
``compromise`` which will now block only one third as many caption
fields --- progress!! (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SOUTH CAROLINA [non]. 5850, Oct 10 at 0612, WRMI is still on much
later than before, with Brother Scare, S9+10 and not synchronized with
superfluous WWCR 4840 & 3215. Checking the WRMI skedgrid,
http://www.tinyurl.com/WRMIfqs --- there`s a lot more green on it as
Brother HyStairical has bought a bunch more time. No new frequencies,
but old ones have been expanded greatly with more and more BS. May
have bumped some other programming as I have not studied it carefully,
but not directly affecting any WOR times. Where does BS come up with
rich psychophants shoveling money at him?

15770 is one of them, now shown as running all night as well as all

``BILL C NOKES
2802 NIGHTENGALE LANE
ENID, OK 73703
USA

Hello! My name is Bill, and I have been W5EIY since 1954.

I was born in Weatherford, OK, grew up on a farm there, graduated HS
in 1957 and headed off to Oklahoma State University for six years to
get degrees in Animal Science & Horticulture. After OSU, I moved to
Texas for about eight years, then came to Enid in 1973 to look after
parents -- both my wife's and my own.

After a few years in the banking business I started off on a new
career as a sales rep for a nail and air nailer company, covering four
states and driving about 5,000 miles a month. In 2012, after 35 years
on the road, I retired to have more time to play radio and encourage
our eight grandchildren in their sports, music and theatre
endeavors.

My rig is a Kenwood TS-570S running 80-90 watts. On 40M I use a 33-ft
long inverted L. Just 33 feet? Yeah, covenants keep me in the stealth
mode. The end-fed wire sneaks up 15 feet vertically alongside my
workshop/shack, then runs 18 feet horizontally--never higher than the
peak of the wood shake roof.

My alternate antenna is a 44-ft end-fed sloper with a 9:1 UnUn.

I enjoy both CW and SSB operation, especially late night DX-ing and
rag-chewing. Plus, experimenting with simple antennas, including
portable ones. With K5ECI, another "Bill in Enid," we are assembling
a go-kit around my Alinco DX70TH to use in case of a storm or other
emergency -- or even for day-trips to local state parks.

Hope to CU soon. Good DX to all! And let's keep pounding that brass.

PHOTOS: (UPPER-L) My station is the TS-570S, power supplies Samlex

of heavy splash from strong 6100 RHC. Why in the world are they here
nor at least on LSB which would have been much better? (6090 Anguilla,
of course, is absent.) Unseems formal, urgent or military, just random
ham-like ragchew. At first only one side audible, then detectable
contact (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Glenn Hauser logs October 7-8, 2019

Glenn Hauser

** CANADA. 15034-USB, Oct 7 at 2050, despite previous log as missing
at 1439, CHR is back on and still `no reports received` and distorted
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 11850, Oct 7 at 2052, open carrier prior to 2100 RHC
transmission, and no sign of Romania English scheduled until 2100; nor
on its // 13650 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6100, Oct 8 at 0556, RHC English at S9+10, but
undermodulated; remains best of the sorry lot, as 6165 is JBA carrier,
6000 is S9 but just barely modulated; and 5040 is off already.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** KOREA NORTH [non]. 5935, Oct 8 at 1315, VG S9+10 signal from
Shiokaze in Japanese and piano from JSR; rivals the signal WWCR
achieves earlier in the night, despite yesterday`s remark that JSR was
JBA. Really good opening from E Asia this morning, and no sign of
Tibet CCI; leads me to check on the other more fluid clandestines; see
KOREA SOUTH (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA NORTH [non]. 6045, Oct 8 at 1317, amid all the South/North
Korean jumbling, also Korean? talk and music mix here no jamming
audible; one station or two? Aoki shows:
``6045 1200-1458 TJK National Unity Radio Kor Dushanbe-Ya 1-7``
Dushanbe sunset 1258 UT, so possible grayline but would not expect
this much signal from Tajikistan rather than E Asia. Ron Howard
replies, ``Yes, after 1200+, I normally have strong reception of
National Unity Radio. Some days with strong jamming. Ron`` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA SOUTH [and non]. Seems Voice of the People, and Echo of Hope
are shifting frequencies, mostly by 5 kHz, from one day to the next to
keep the NK jammers alert. My observations October 8 at 1316-1326:

VOP: 3480 not 3485; 3910; 6600 not 6595.
EOH/VOH: 3985 but a JBA carrier on 3990; 4890 not 4885; 5995 not 5990
but a JBA carrier on 5990; 6350 not 6348; and at 1356, 9105 not 9100.
I could also hear noise jamming on: 6350, 6600, 3985, 3910. Note that
4890 was NBC PNG`s flagship frequency should they ever reactivate.

Ron Howard had already posted to WOR iog a few hours earlier Oct 8:

``Voice of the People, at 1046+: 3910 // 3480 // 3935 // 4450 // 6525
// 6600.
Echo of Hope - VOH, at 1042+: 3985 // 4890 // 5995 // 6255 // 6350 //
9105. Ron``

He has also had much better reception of 9105: ``Hi Glenn, Interesting
to note the difference between your location and mine regarding 9105
reception. My audio today of 9105
http://bit.ly/2IxZ9Up
At the start and end of the language lesson English/Chinese/Korean?),
a singing jingle ("When we arrive, the party will come alive").``

Then Wolfgang Bueschel replied to Ron: ``KOREAs TRACED Oct 8th in
Hiroshima and Tokyo SDR's, 1430-1500 UT mostly scratch noise jamming

Voice of the People, at 1046+: 3910 // 3480 // 3935 // 4450 // 6525 //
6600:
3479.987 S=9+40dB BUBBLE jamming type instead.
3909.965 S=9+45dB
3934.990 S=9+40dB NOT JAMMED !
4449.946 S=9+35dB two peak strings visible.
4450even S=9+40dB
6506 to 6522 kHz wideband jamming range.
6524.976 S=9+15dB NOT JAMMED !
6600even S=9+5dB

Echo of Hope - VOH, at 1042+: 3985 // 4890 // 5995 // 6255 // 6350 //
9105:
3985.011 S=9+40dB
4890.003 S=9+10dB NOT JAMMED !
5982 to 6025 kHz wideband JAMMING range
(5995 kHz EoH - VoH not on air 1445 UT)
6246 to 6252 kHz wideband JAMMING range
6255even S=9+5dB EoH - VoH instead !
6350.036 S=9+15dB
9104.998 S=6, 16 x 50 Hertz distance strings either sideband.
73 wolfie df5sx`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 2097.3, Oct 8 at 0600, no signal detected from beacon A,
which used to ID in CW every dekasecond from anywhere but Quartzsite
AZ; nor some previous recent chex, as it always used to penetrate even
noisy nightpaths. Is anyone still hearing it? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2002 monitoring: confirmed UT Tuesday October
8 at 0100 on WRMI 7780, S9-S8. Next:
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE
Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:
http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9475 & 5830, Oct 7 at 2057, WTWW-1 on neither possible
frequency; a while ago noted 9475 back on but unlogged. Extremely
irregular, more off than on (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5890, UT Tue Oct 8 at 0557, S5-S7 of dead air from WWCR,
which seems to happen more often on Tuesdays; about the same level as
modulated 5935. Others: 4840 & 3215 both VG, the latter somewhat
undermodulated BS (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 3325, Oct 8 at 1326, S5-S7 of dead air; should be enough
signal to detect modulation if any; more likely Indonesia`s English
hour than Bougainville (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 5984.73, Oct 8 before 0100, JBA carrier, cuts off and on
as I measure it. Maybe something local; only 5985 scheduled at this
time is Myanmar, already a sessquihour after sunrise there (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

This report dispatched at 1644 UT October 8

Glenn Hauser logs October 6-7, 2019

Glenn Hauser

** CANADA. 341 kHz, Oct 7 at 0628 UT, dash and YYU NDB ID, 500 watts
from Kapuskasing, Ontario, may be the final time I log it since
http://dxinfocentre.com/ndb.htm
reminds us in red YYU is one of those TO BE DECOMMISSIONED 2019-10-10.
I wonder how much the Kapuskasingers will miss it? No sign of Enid`s
only beacon EI on 341, not that its weak 25 watts were an obstacle.
See also USA (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CANADA. 15034-USB, Oct 7 at 1439 and 1601 chex, no signal from CHR.
Propagation is fine, with WINB-DRM on 15115-15125 and CHU on 14670.
Either it broke down completely, or someone at Trenton Military
finally noticed it was totally out of order with ``no report
received`` from everywhere, and distorted modulation. EiBi shows sked
as 1010-2400 on 15034 and 2310-1100 on 6754, which implies two
transmitters but I was hearing exactly the same distortion on 6754;
maybe the nominal overlap allowed for variability in QSY times.
Presumably supposed to be continuous unlike civilian Gander Radio.
Will CHR be repaired and resume receiving reports? For years it has
been remarkably unreliable (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 5025, Oct 7 at 0614, no signal from Radio Rebelde which is
normally 24h. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 13632 & 13767 approx., Oct 7 at 1354, only traces of RHC
spurblobs at first order from 13700; fortunately nothing on second
order to QRM 13565 K6FRC, see USA. Something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 11880, Oct 7 at 1434, CRI Plus English relay is S9+10 but
suptorted modulation. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GERMANY. 15715, Monday Oct 7 at 1357, music and Chinese talk, like
CRI might do at this hourpart, VP S3-S6, but no, soon recognizable
with gospel harmony, AWR English ID and theme, Voice of Hope, also IDs
in French, German (? fade), Italian, English website, next program in
Mandarin, and into that. First expected to be from KSDA or somewhere
in Asia, yet zero signal from e.g. 15575 South Korea to North America.
No, this is 250 kW, 75 degrees from Nauen at 1300-1330 only, in Cmn on
weekdays, Uighur on weekends! Hmm, would the ChiCom be less likely to
persecute and brainwash Adventist Uyghurs (how many?) than Moslem
ones?? It might pay to pretend to be Christian (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA SOUTH. 9105, Oct 7 at 1435, JBA carrier here instead of 9100
as I start my 9 MHz bandscan --- I bet it`s Echo of Hope in another
5-kHz shift. Yes, Ron Howard has just reported on this and all the
others to the WOR iogroup:

``On Oct 7, with some changes in the clandestine frequencies.
Voice of the People, at 1044+:
3910 (ex 3905).
3480 (ex 3475).
New 3935 (ex 3930).
4450, no change.
New 6525 (ex 6520).
6600 (ex 6595).

Echo of Hope - VOH, at 1050+:
3985 (ex 3980).
New 4890 (ex 4885).
5995 (ex 5990).
New 6255 (ex 6250). My audio of the news, at http://bit.ly/30PvImZ
6350 (ex 6348)
New 9105 (ex 9100).
(Ron Howard, Asilomar State Beach, CA, Etón E1, antenna: 100' long
wire, WOR iog via DXLD)`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 90.1, Oct 6 at 1846-1852 UT at least, dead air from KUCO
Edmond/OKC, vs occasional breakthrus of modulating KHCC Radio Kansas,
Hutchinson (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 341 kHz, Oct 7 at 1323 UT almost an hour after 1232 sunrise,
OIN is the only beacon audible on 341, no sign at this hour of YYU in
Kapuskasing; see CANADA. OIN is 25 watts from Oberlin KS.

No sign either of Enid`s only beacon EI on 341 from Woodring Airport
(which has a brand-new manager, terminal building and runways being
refurbished as Vance AFB also uses it), not that its weak 25 watts
were an obstacle. There are plenty more 341s as yet unheard from
Alaska, Greenland, Canada, Mexico and all over Lower 48.

I tend to check 341 first on ``LW`` beaconscans. Other regulars nearby
are 350 RG from Will RoGers WA in OKC; 255 SW Stillwater; and 515 PN
Ponca City which is strongest of all, tho listed only minimum power of
25 watts (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 395 kHz, Oct 7 at 1324, ND beacon CA, which is 25 watts from
Newton-Harvs KS. What is Harvs? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A. 13565, Oct 7 at 1353, K6FRC beacon from CA audible again
today after a long spell; sudden new spurt of activity, or suddenly
favorable propagation? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2002 monitoring: confirmed, Sunday
October 6 at 2130 on WRMI 7780, S7-S9.

Also confirmed UT Monday October 7 at 0130 on WRMI 7780, S7-S9, after
usual Rudy Espinal ID, but then Bob Zanotti tried to ID again, but I
cut him off; sorry, Bob! Much stronger S9+10/20 on // WRMI 9395.

Also confirmed UT Mon Oct 7 at 0230 on WRMI 7780, JBA here, better R4
on UTwente SDR in Holland (and by now 9395 not with WOR has faded out
completely to here; SID?)

Also confirmed UT Mon Oct 7 from 0301:03 on Area 51 via WBCQ 5129.977,
noisy S8-S9; also JBA via UTwente SDR.

Also confirmed UT Mon Oct 7 at 0330 on WRMI webcast, but it`s horribly
distorted! While 9955 is inaudible. Next:

1816 UT Monday IRRS 7290 Romania to WNW
0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to NE

Glenn Hauser logs October 5-6, 2019 [MORE]

Glenn Hauser

** CANADA. 15034-USB, Oct 6 at 1350, CHR Trenton Military is still
distorted and ``no report received`` from anywhere, for at least the
third day in a row (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 13565, Oct 6 at 1348, HIFER beacon K6FRC with continuous CW
IDs, 100% copy. First time heard since April 22, despite virtually
daily tunes-across the 13550-13570 band; nor any other such beacons.
Are they all inactive or just not propagating? And has K6FRC been
running all the time, as is the point of being a beacon? K6FRC lux out
as today there are no RHC-FM spurs as one typically blotches around
here (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2002 monitoring October 5: Noel R Green
reports: ``0629vUT Saturday HLR 6190-CUSB Germany to WSW --- a better
signal today, peaking to S7 at times with deep fades. I could copy
some of the audio but the rest was lost in local noise. The signal
appeared to deteriorate towards the end of the broadcast when only
voice could be heard but not understood.

1430 UT Saturday, HLR 9485-CUSB Germany to WSW --- there is definitely
an audible signal today peaking to about S6 and easy to tell it's
Glenn`s voice. But only an occasional word can be understood in the
noise level. There's no QRM from either side.
Noel R.Green [NW England].``

Good; another Romanian transmitter outage; long may it continue gone
from 9490! Glad our two English monitors were tuned, since I missed
checking Sat 1430 on 9485 via UTwente or other remotes. Alan Gale:

``Hi Glenn, World of Radio is coming in well on 9485 kHz at the moment
(1440 UT), probably because there is no sign of the Romanian station
on 9490, and no splatter. Post Equinox propagation is probably a
factor as well, as I couldn't find any sign of HLR on the SDRs in
Finland and Sweden, but it's certainly making it to the
north west of England today. A short mp3 file is attached. Alan``

I also missed checking WA0RCR, 1860-AM, MO, until 0345 UT Sunday
October 6 when they were in ham news, so I trust WOR had just finished
from nominal 0315 start.

** U S A. 820, Sunday Oct 6 at 0606 UT, WBAP starting `Red Eye Radio`,
but horrible mixture of another `Red Eye Radio` far out of synch,
maybe half a minute apart. At first thought flagship WBAP had its
wires crossed with double audio feed, but it keeps going and I soon
find it is really another signal by DF. As recently reported, WWBA
Largo FL on 820 has been running 50 kW at night and QRMing WBAP all
over the continent, but format had been C&W music. Has it flipped
formats, or is hybrid with both depending on time?

This is hardly a new situation. See my log from *2013* ---

``820, Oct 7 at 0607 UT, Redeye Radio from WBAP has a slight reverb
echo on it, especially when nulled, no doubt from other 820 affiliate,
WWBA in Largo FL, 50/1 kW. I wonder if they make an effort to
synchronize, compensating for a satellite delay to FL from originating
TX, minimizing echo which could be a lot worse between them than here
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)``

Guess what, WWBA is still/again listed as an RER affiliate:
http://www.redeyeradioshow.com/red-eye-radio-affiliates/
And there is one other 820, WGGM Chester VA -- now WNTW, U4 10/1 kW
which we may safely disregard.

RER affiliate list does link to WWBA website:
https://www.newstalkflorida.com/

But no program schedule and a direct link I had in an old log is 404.
Current site does have Listen linx to WIXC 1060 and WWBA 820. Checked
at 1516 Oct 6, WWBA is talking a Dave Ramsey commercial, not C&W.

Also, altho recently reported in DX News as if something new, Terry
Krueger mentioned over two years ago in Sept 2017, that WWBA and WHBO
were diplexed close to his then location in Clearwater.

See DXLD 15-02, for my previous log of WWBA vs WBAP, Jan 9, 2015:

** U S A. 1280, Oct 6 at 1342 UT, KSOK Arkansas City KS finishing one
of my favorite tunes, ``Jump``, ID only as ``103-3 The Mixx`` (but
pronounced as if only one X) and a rap version of Jump, not favorite.
No mention of AM frequency! Wow, my radio is somehow picking up an FM
station on AM! Seriously, KSOK is now sounding like full-power 1 kW
and also at full daytime groundwave check 1640 UT. It may have been
fixed for a few days, but this updates my last report that they were
QRP (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. RF 31, KDCU-DT, Derby/Wichita KS, 0437-0500+ UT Oct 6,
surprisingly starts coming in due to level-3 tropo over Wichita into
central MO, altho Enid is just outside the edge of level 1 on the
Hepburn predixion map. Also on the edge is KDCU reception, providing
lots of nice DTV breakup art I have photographed and will eventually
add to my gallery, during Univisión programming. Other signals:

RF 45, KSNW ``3`` is still here, not repacked; also Bad signals on 8,
28 and 35. 8 and 35 fit for Wichita market, but 28?

W9WI.com shows KWKD-LP, 15 kW DTV CP for Daystar in Wichita, virtually
38, but which has been LICensed already on 28 as 8.8 kW analog (Glenn

** CANADA. 15034-USB, Oct 5 at 1343, like yesterday, CHR Trenton
Military continues asserting robotically, ``no report received`` as it
calls the roll of all the airports. When this happen, you can be sure
the problem is at the CHR end, not at every airport. And still
overmodulated/distorted.

6754-USB, Oct 6 at 0016, exactly same situation on night frequency

** CUBA. 1620, Oct 6 at 0046, music I figure is Radio Rebelde,
immediately confirmed by // 5025 but latter is distorted, so better on

Something`s always wrong at RHC.

Maybe 11760 kept right going since at 2039 recheck it`s on in

Portuguese following Arabic at 2000. Something`s always wrong at RHC

** EAST TURKISTAN [and non]. 6180, Oct 6 at 0026, VP talk in English

11780 tonight with a VG signal, but on 6180, CRI aimed south for South
Asian mornings would hardly conflict. Remember the Uyghurs being
brainwashed since this is from Kashgar scheduled 2300-0200 in English,
100 kW at 173 degrees (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA NORTH [non]. 5935 // 6040, Sat Oct 5 at 1332, VP talk in

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. Re: ``RF 17, Oct 2 and always, the latest
reboot a few weeks ago of K17JN-D Enid has kept it on the air with no
further tech problems, except it is permanently IDing falsely: ``DTV
41-1 KCYH-LD``! Are such false IDs a fineable offense?``

Doug Smith, of W9WI.com replies Oct 4 on the WTFDA Forum:

``Certainly a false ID is a potentially fineable offense BUT...

- The FCC doesn't really care what call letters you transmit during
the hour, as long as you transmit the right ones at least once (for a
LPTV station that isn't rebroadcasting something else, the city is
also required - so "KCYH-LD" is not a legal ID even for KCYH-LD).
- For TV stations, the legal ID may be either aural or visual. If the
Enid station is announcing "K17JN-D Enid" aurally at least once an
hour, they're legal even if the only call letters that ever show up on
the screen are KCYH-LD. [doubt there are any audio IDs --- gh]
- There's nothing in the rules about the call letters in the PSIP
metadata. As you may have noticed, most Ion stations just say "Ion",
but they also superimpose their call letters over the video. That is
of course perfectly legal.
- LPTV stations may be identified in Morse Code in a way that's not
audible or visible on an ordinary TV. I am not 100% certain that
method works for digital stations -- but it might.*
- You have to do something pretty egregious to get fined these days.
If you have a license, and your EAS gear and tower lights work, and
you don't lie to the Commission about being on the air, you're
probably not going to get fined.

So it's very possible K17JN is totally legal. And even if it isn't,
they probably don't have anything to worry about.

* I'm certain it would work to identify the station. I am not certain
it wouldn't cause TV sets to "lose lock" for the duration of the ID.
Although the ID would take less than five seconds and maybe operators
would be willing to accept the loss of lock?

And about Nexstar acquiring KFOR:

``The regulation is generally no more than two stations in a market,
of which one must not be among the four most highly-viewed stations
(generally, you can own a major-network affiliate and an
independent).

That's been slightly relaxed, in that it's now possible in certain
circumstances to own two of the four most highly-viewed stations. The
ABC and NBC stations in Sioux Falls, South Dakota are now
co-owned.

Note that the airing of more than one major network on subchannels of
the same station is unquestionably permissible.

There are no limits for multiple ownership across the country. If you
can afford to buy a TV station in every market, the FCC will let you
do it.

I don't mean to argue that regulation is, or is not, a good idea, but
that's what the regulation is.``

Re: ``Here`s their station roster and a map including KFOR in OKC as
market rank 45 (rabbitears.info has had it at only 50).
https://www.nexstar.tv/stations/
How can such smaller cities as Harrisburg PA, Spartanburg SC, outrank
OKC??? Hagerstown MD is #6??? One of the largest cities, San Diego CA
is #29??``

Doug explains:

``RabbitEars uses its own method to designate market areas. Nielsen's
DMA system is copyrighted and other entities (not RabbitEars) have
been asked to cease and desist in using them.

Since the RabbitEars algorithm is different, it yields different
results -- and more areas.

Note that on the Nexstar page, both Hagerstown and Washington show up
as DMA #6. Hagerstown is part of the Washington DMA.

Harrisburg --- may be the central city of the market, but the market
also includes Lebanon, Lancaster, York, and a bunch of smaller cities.
Similarly, Spartanburg also includes Greenville, Anderson, and
Asheville NC.

San Diego "suffers" from being "hemmed in" by the ocean, the desert,
Mexico (DMAs only include viewers in the U.S.), and Camp Pendleton
(imagine what your drill instructor would do if you tried to watch TV
while on duty). San Diego itself may be the 8th largest city in the
U.S., but there aren't as many significant suburbs & satellite cities
as in places like Minneapolis, Denver, and Cleveland.

** U S A. 820, Oct 6 at 0055 UT, inspired by 1520 KOLM cheating, I

continues to run 50 kW day power at night, as first IDed here Sept 30.
WHBO 1040 has moved on to diplex with the WWBA site, which may have
something to do with this anomaly (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING

** U S A. 1520, Oct 6 at 0040 UT, KOKC OKC is in dead air during
prime(?) time which continues until modulation suddenly blasts on at
0100. Altho we should be in the semi-local coverage area of a 10/10 ND
station even as STA, KOKC almost always has QRM here at night, and now
I hear more easily some baseball talk, even better when aiming NNE
and/or nulling KOKC. Barely squeaking in an ID before KOKC resumes, at
0059 UT ``Powered by CBS Sports Radio, 1520 The Ticket, KOLM,
Rochester``. This is no 800 watts aimed from MN slightly east of
north, as licensed at night rather than 10000 watts day,
non-direxional.

During Critical Hours, 2 hours before sunset, and 2 hours after
sunrise, KOLM may legally run 10 kW, but on a direxional beam with a
broad lobe toward the NW. FWIW, clearly nothing at all, in Oct
official SS/SR times are 2330-1230 UT (Nov: 2245-1300 UT).

KOLM has been cheating for years, and I will not accept excuses that
they have an automation or remote-control problem. Every station is
responsible for adhering to its licensed parameters, even if someone
has to run the transmitter manually; negligence, if that`s what this
is, effectively amounts to cheating which just happens to greatly
improve its local-area night coverage (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING

music until 0002 when 7490.07 only IDs and starts ``William Tell

but by TimTron who is subbing again on `Allan & Angela WorldWide`
because they are on a ``journey`` --- back to DeLand of Fla already
before Maine freezes? which it is about to per TT. He confirms this
week it`s monocasting on 7490 only, without explanation other than a
belch. Into his political comments, a pleasant change from AW, since
TT thinx Trump has got to go. He doesn`t watch Fox News, but PBS is
the ``gold standard`` like BBC which it relays as well as TV news from
NHK and DW. Refers to China`s terrible treatment of Uyghurs in East
Turkistan, as apparently he just watched PBS Newshour like I did with
a report about brainwashing there as the penultimate part of a series
about China.

[China calls it re-education, but Uyghur Muslims say it’s ‘unbearable
brutality’ --- 15:36 audio-video:

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/china-calls-it-re-education-but-uyghur-muslims-say-its-unbearable-brutality
Oct 4 NBC Nightly News also had a much briefer item about this.
Remember the Uyghurs whenever you listen to Kashgar or Urumqi, or
anything from China.]

TT concludes his first segment lamenting how poorly humans treat each
other, which has got to change. Was atheist, now agnostic; suspects
humans developing suddenly (?) from primates resulted from aliens
visiting earth to experiment, and if they come back, may not be
pleased with how we turned out.

After that he he plays some Anthrax, 0023 Red-Eye, and more music than
talk, as he says his voice is giving out; entertains us with crickets
& bees ambiance as mentioned at 0025! Refers to his own show which he
says is always at 7 pm EDT/EST on Sat & Sun.

At 0031 finally something about the Super-Station which he thinx has
been testing on 9330, but I don`t, not in the past week. It needs to
operate on 12.12 MHz, but the tuning procedure is not easy; a crew may
be coming up from Continental to do that (I thought they already had),
but if not, TT will have to figure it out. If he were in charge, would
have set it up differently. I move on and don`t hear the second half.
I`ve been listening only direct on 7490+, not webcast.

Here`s John Carver`s summary: ``Listening on 7490 this evening. Theme
song started about two minutes late and TimTron is hosting. The music
for a dropped signal on Area 51 was used and Tim could be heard
talking to Jason under the music. Tim said that Allan and Angela were
"traveling". He also said they were only broadcasting the show on
7490. Opening talk is anti-Trump. Interesting that last week Allan
used the term Nazi to refer to Congress and tonight Tim uses it to
refer to Trump and his supporters. Into music at 0015. A bit more
political talk and then a mention of engineers working on the
superstation transmitter but no details about anything. Back to music
at 0034. Program was off the air without a proper closing at 0100 and
7490 immediately went into Hal Turner. John, Mid-North Indiana``

** U S A. 1520, more about the currently silent KYND Cypress TX, so
not QRMing KOKC, from Stephen Luce, Houston, Oct 4 on WOR io group:

``Glenn, further regarding KYND: The station's transmitter site is 40
miles west of downtown Houston, in an area that was pretty much
unaffected by Tropical Storm Imelda. And the station was on the air
for several days after the worst of the storm, but has been off for
over a week now. Other local Houston radio and TVs have been carrying
on as usual.

The big issue with KYND is the station's lack of paying clients over
the past two years, which has resulted in lengthy periods off the air,
or running a promo loop searching for new customers. This is a station
that is barely alive; it consists of a transmitter site and nothing
else. I'm amazed the owners haven't given up completely and sold the
place, though given the state of AM radio these days there may be
little serious interest in a daytime only operation. Stephen Luce,
Houston, Texas`` (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1560, Oct 4 at 1319 UT, quick check confirms KGOW is still

UNIDENTIFIED. 17850, Oct 4 at 2117, JBA carrier, not a birdie, but
nothing scheduled now, and anything overseas would probably not
propagate anyway (17550 Kuwait inaudibly aimed at us). But I seriously
suspect 17850 be the third harmonic of 5950 WRMI! Especially since I
have just heard an unlogged ham on the 18 MHz band in central Florida;
and at 2152 checking the DXmap for sporadic E blobs, there is an MUF
25 MHz over Louisiana, which is just about halfway to FL. Vaguely
recall I may have heard this rare harmonic before. At 2125, 5950
confirmed on as always with poor signal as always, S5-S6 and
undermodulated. Too bad no trace of audio on 17850 to match it.

If 5950 harmonicize 3X, how about 2X? 11900 at first sounds similar to
5950 but no match. At 2100-2130 M-F, 11900 is occupied by VOA French
via São Tomé. Harmonix tend to favor odds or evens, but if any MUF
ever permit, look for the 24h WRMI 5950 signal also on: 23800, 29750,
35700, 41650, 47600, 53550, 59500+. Seriously, anyone visiting around
Okeechobee should also look for these and other possible harmonix from
all other WRMI transmitters, which are well-suppressed.

Strange how hardly anyone else mentions sporadic E as a factor in
their SW DX logs. Maybe it`s my long experience as a VHF DXer which
makes me well aware of it. In the NTSC era, FL was probably the prime
source of channel 2-6 Es DX, like WESH-2, WPBT/WTHS-2, WEDU-3, WEAR-3,
WTVJ-4, WJXT-4, WPTV-5, WUFT-5, WDBO-6, WCTV-6, WCIX-6, all of which I

** CANADA. 2749-USB, Oct 4 at 0307, after a summer of no reception,
JBA YL talk on Canadian Coast Guard marine weather frequency; having
misplaced link to CCG schedule, I find this worldwide one:
https://www.hfunderground.com/wiki/Maritime_Weather_Transmissions
which shows VCS Halifax NS starting 2749 at 0240; nothing now/yet on
2598-USB, the further and weaker NL channel (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. 15565, Oct 4 at 0003, not much on 19m, but a fadey S7 signal
in Chinese here, i.e. CNR1 jammer vs VOA Chinese via Thailand;
certainly not either Radio Thailand to North in English on 15590
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 15370 // 15140, Oct 2 at 1942, RHC in English on both
frequencies; supposed to be 15140 only and 15370 other languages. This
follows dead air on both the other day. Something`s always wrong at
RHC. But interesting cultural item about Carmina Burana performed as a
dance after winning some award in Mexico? That I`d like to hearsee.
Soon into mandatory anti-American propaganda, how José Martí became
disillusioned with America after visiting it. But how was he to know
that in the next century, America would name a major radio and TV
service for him?! 2001 both into Arabic instead of French on 15140. By
2049 check, 15370 in Portuguese, 15140 off.

This on the BST-1 caradio; at first I did a double take when I heard
RHC English twice on the memory scan thinking I mishit the button, but
another time around, Morse readout of frequencies confirmed both. BTW,
this radio was out of commission for a while, as the antenna coax
broke; turns out it had been flexing forever out of sight as it went
into the trunk, every time it opened and closed; spliced it back
together and as good as new (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2002, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 5040, Oct 3 at 0535, RHC in Spanish instead of English, and
just barely modulated. Same situation Oct 4 at 0321 during a song,
S9+20 but JBM. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6100, Oct 3 at 0537, surprised to hear the weakened voice of
Arnie Coro on RHC English --- is it his `Breakthru` science show? No,
despite being UT Thursday, it`s `DXers Unlimited` with ham radio
equipment topic. Hard to follow as he speaks too fastly and
indistinctly. Soon at 0540, outro as ``weekend edition of DXUL``! So
they are playing back the Sunday hour instead of Wednesday! And the
midweek should have aired the night before. Something`s always wrong
at RHC. There is a tremendously sad disparity between his ailing voice
now and the canned outro recorded years ago when he was in full voice.
Mandatory anti-American propaganda follows, `Connecting the Dots`
about the many sins of Andrew Jackson against native Americans;
certainly true but only the worst of American history may be
mentioned. What about the fate of the Taíno in Cuba?? 6100 is best of
the lot by far, S9+30 with good modulation; 6165 is JBA! 6000 is
undermodulated at S9-S7 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 15140, Oct 3 at 1339, S9 of dead air from RHC while 15230 is
OK, not an unusual situation. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 13566 S9, 13633 S9+10, 13768 S9, 13835 S9, Oct 9 at 1400,
approx. centers of panoply of FM spurblobs out of RHC 13700-AM at
approx. intervals of 65-68 kHz, but none detectable further out circa
13500 & 13900, not even the F# tone which accompanies program audio on
the closer ones. Unlike 13700 itself, the stronger spurs are about
equally readable in FM or AM mode. Some days these are present, other
days not at all; how does RHC manage that, where something is always
wrong? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 9620-9660, Oct 3 at 1450, RHC 9640 is still surrounded by a
buzzfield, also audible at the center along with some hum. Something`s
always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 15370, Oct 3 at 1946, RHC in Arabic, supposed to be in
French; while 15140 succeeds to be in English. Something`s always
wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 11760, Oct 3 at 2353, RHC is off its #1 frequency so I check
for others: also off, 11850 and its 11840/11860 spurs; and 11670.
Still on this band, 11700 in Spanish and 11950 Mesa Redonda until
2400. 13740 and 7380 also missing; 9535, 9640, 5040, 6000 still on and
the 5990 CRI relay. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 15120, Oct 4 at 0001, CRI relay is dead air; 15730 RHC is
very poor but modulated. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GUATEMALA [and non]. 4055, Oct 4 at 0309, S9 to S9+10 of open
carrier, dead air from TGAV, Radio Truth/Verdad, just like WBCQ 7490.1
and WRMI 7780. At least the electric companies benefit (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PHILIPPINES. 12110, Oct 3 at 2351, S5-S7 JBA talk; scheduled as VOA
Burmese via Tinang, 2330-2430 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SPAIN [and non]. 9690, Oct 2 at 2102, REE North American frequency
is off. 11670 for Africa also continues AWOL; 12030 to ME is S9-S8 of
dead air once again --- leaving only one in service, 11940 to S
America but VP here. 9690 not a propagation problem since Greek music
OK on 9420 at 2105. Yet a sesquihour earlier at 1930, Wolfgang
Bueschel reported 9690 on, and also 12030 apparently then with
modulation too; during a silly ballgame (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF
RADIO 2002, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [non]. 9740, Oct 2 at 2107, W&M talking, VP and not sure of
language, then recognize English; China? No, scheduled as VOA in
French this semihour weekdays, via Woofferton. Maybe a bit of English
mixed in language lesson? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2001 monitoring: confirmed Wed Oct
2 at 2100 on WBCQ 7490.070v, fair S7-S8. I`m not upcut here but
instead automation chops off last half of ``Q`` in singing ID before
music can resolve, and starts WOR on time; this has happened for quite
a while.

Also confirmed UT Thursday Oct 3 at 0100 on WRMI 7780, poor-fair.

** U S A. 9330, as of Oct 3 at 1448 and 1945 chex, still no signals
from WBCQ; in fact I think nothing since the Sept 28 AAAWWW when it
was not the 500 kW. Nor has AW twitted anything about it the past
week. Setup stalled even with techs helping from the manufacturers?
Aren`t the WLC flat-earthers paying for it getting impatient? Gotta
get this going before the world ends! Remember the target date had
been last July. Maybe more news on AAAWWW this week from 0000 UT
Saturday on 7490v et al. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2002, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. 7490.1, Oct 4 at 0310, S5-S9 of dead air from
WBCQ. 7780 WRMI and 4055 TGAV are also open carrier now; situation
contagious? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. 7780, Oct 4 at 0311, WRMI is S9-S8 of dead air; so
is WBCQ 7490.1 and 4055 TGAV; hey stations, wake up or turn off (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 15555-USB, Oct 2 at 2050, WJHR again audible on proper
frequency but JB (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5072.010 and 5097.988, Oct 4 at 0322 I am still detecting
the JBA parasitic spur carriers out of WTWW-2 where music modulation
is audible only on VG S9+30 fundamental measured on 5085.002, i.e.
approx. 12.99 kHz above and below; used to be more like 12.90; Ted
adjusted? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1560, Oct 4 at 0249 UT, Vietnamese song at usual good signal
level from KGOW Bellaire (Houston) TX, and // 1480 KNGO The Metroplex
but not synchronized. Checking this because earlier Oct 3, Paul Walker
posted:

``Everyone's favorite ethnic station, Viet Radio 1560 KGOW
Bellaire/Houston is completely off the air due to flooding from
Tropical Depression Imelda that has "Detrimentally affected the
transmission equipment". They are completely off the air instead of
using the separate day or night site full time like last time when the
day site got flooded``. He then clarified that KGOW had applied to FCC
today for an STA to be off the air; and someone in Houston said 1560
was off at 21 UT.

I pointed out that Imelda flooding in Houston was old news from a
sesquiweek ago, and that I was still hearing KGOW last night or this
morning.

Scott Fybush replied, ``I was in Houston in the immediate aftermath of
Imelda, from the 19th until the 22nd. KGOW was on the air every time I
checked. I didn't go out to its transmitter site(s), so I don't know
which site it was using or what the state of those sites might have
been.

(Based on my visits and conversations with the local engineers, there
was no flooding damage to any Houston broadcast sites, though I was
unable to visit KTRH 740 because the road leading to the site was
underwater. There were no signals off the air or noticeably at reduced
power while I was there.)

KGOW's sites are pretty far west, as I recall. The flooding was
predominantly east. I'm not saying KGOW didn't suffer some sort of
damage... but what it's telling the FCC doesn't match up very well
with what I saw and heard last month.``

As for KYND 1520, Stephen Luce, Houston replies Oct 3 on the WOR iog
to my previous report: ``The station has been off the air since
September 25. Operation had been highly irregular prior to that
date``. So was that because of flooding? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
