How to avoid the editor window from popping up in Praat script?

Dear Professor Paul,

I hope this email finds you well.
I am writing to you today because I have a basic question regarding the use of Praat script. Specifically, I would like to know how to avoid the editor window from popping up when using the script for automatic annotation. The constant flashing of the editor window is a concern for me as I fear it may damage my computer screen.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could provide me with some guidance on how to address this issue. Any advice or tips you can offer would be very helpful.

Thank you very much for your time and attention to this matter. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best wishes,
Wei

dear Wei,

I am not aware of "the" script for automatic annotation. I wouldn't write scripts myself that flash editor windows.

Usually, such scripts can be avoided, and should be avoided. For instance, I have seem a script that cycles through the intervals in a TextGrid and measures formant values whenever an interval contains a certain text. One *could* do that via a TextGrid window (e.g. with "Extract selected sound"), but it equally possible to do this via a script that simply runs in the Objects window (e.g. with "Extract part" on a selected Sound), and that wouldn't flash. So it *can* usually (always?) be avoided easily, and the reason why I claim that it *should* be avoided is that a script in the Objects window has to specify all analysis settings explicitly, while the analysis performed by a script in the TextGrid window depends on whatever settings the user has chosen when working interactively with that window.

So please consult the author of your script about this. If there is indeed something that does require flashing the TextGrid (or Sound) window, I would like to know about it.

best wishes,
Paul
