Generating wideband and Narrowband at a specific time

Afia Nyarko <nyarkoafia2910@...>

Hi all,

Could you please help me with how to generate a wideband (try window length 0.007 sec) and a narrowband FFT (try window length 0.07 sec) for a vowel at the time specified in praat. I want to know how to select the specific time in Praat waveform.

For examples

bad      0.38 sec

bead    0.43 sec

bed      0.23 sec

bid       0.30 sec

bood    0.35 sec

bud      0.34 sec

Thanks

Dear Afia,

this depends on whether you want to do this by hand or by a script.

The procedure by hand can be done in the Sound window:

1. Position the cursor (i.e. click) on the time of your choice.

2. In the "Spectrogram settings" window, change "Window length" to 0.007 or 0.07 seconds. You can keep this settings window open by clicking on Apply instead of OK.

3. Choose "View spectral slice" from the Spectrogram window. This gives you the Spectrum object that you were looking for.

best wishes,
Paul

Hi Paul,
Thank you so much.
You made it very simple.
This is very clear now.

Thanks,
Eunice
