Allen,
I realized that I had made that critical error when I read your E-mail about the rally - the day after I took the newsletter to the printers. Oh well!! I'll correct it in the Sept. newsletter. Take care, Steve

I just got my July/August newsletter. (Thanks Steve.) A small correction.
Steve re-printed an e-mail from me in the "British Recognition" section that
wasn't completely accurate. The rally that he mentioned, as reported by Mark
Johnson, was not my rally. That rally started in Tamaqua, PA and was put on
by Kevin Valentine, who is an e-mail lister from the Spridgets list. (I
don't know if Kevin is a member of any organized club.) Kevin's rally was a
hoot! We all had fun running it, and the day and the roads were beautiful.

My rally (An SCCA Philadelphia Region event) was held on Saturday, July 28th.
It started at King of Prussia Plaza and ended at the Mid Atlantic Air Museum
in Reading, taking Mount Penn and the Pagoda in as well. We had a light
turnout of only 10 cars, but there was a 1969 MGB competing, owned by Charles
Kitchen of Springfield, PA. Charles told me he bought his B when it was new,
and his son would only accompany him on the rally if he let him drive!

Thanks again for the newsletter, Steve. I just wanted to get the facts
straight.

There was certainly no harm done.  The main thing is to get the word out that
there are rallies going on that everybody can enter and enjoy.  The group
that went on the Tamaqua LBC rally had so much fun, we are all still
laughing.  Especially at Reg for trying to pass off an ear of corn as every
item on the scavenger hunt!  (How about as a toothbrush?!?)

I do have a few local rally routes in my computer, along with general
instructions.  If anyone wants to put together a Philly MG Club rally, I can
supply a lot of help.  As Philly SCCA Rally Steward, I don't have a lot of
time to do all the work, but I can really get you started.  Just give me a
holler!

Motorsports Weekend (Phila.)

ajhsys@...

It's almost here!  THIS WEEKEND is SCCA Philly Region's Motorsports Weekend
2001.

Friday evening, be at the Roosevelt Mall at Cottman Ave and Roosevelt Blvd
(Route 1) in NE Philadelphia for Cruise Night. This is a car show where we
all show our cars and talk about what the region has to offer.  We get a lot
of exposure because the mall has excellent traffic and we are very visible.
Dave Nelson (Phila. Region SCCA) has been working on organizing this, and we
will have members of the Delaware Valley Shelby-Dodge Auto Club joining us.
No Charge to join in the fun!

Saturday is the "Which Way?" gimmick rally.  This is an easy drive around
Montgomery and Berks Counties as you try to find the shortest route to the
finish (maps will be supplied).  The start is at lot #46B at King of Prussia
Plaza, behind the mall, near the First Union Bank on Mall Blvd.  Registration
opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 10.  First Car Off at 10:30 a.m.  The end is at
the Mid Atlantic Air Museum in Reading, and you can see the museum for only
$6.  The rally is $15 for each team.  Contact me for additional info.

Sunday is Solo II at the Boeing helicopter plant.  Exit #8 of I-95, below
Phila. Inter. Airport.  Be there early to register.

Get a three part magnetic dash plaque if you go to all three events!

Come out and play!

parting out 1973 MG Midget

Joe Maggiore <joema@...>

Attention all club members:

I am parting out my 1973 MG Midget starting this weekend and am giving club members first shot at the parts. Please email me for any parts requests and I will email you price and availability. Currently, I have the whole car, but parts are sure to go quickly.  Below you'll see a description of the car when it was recently listed on ebay but didn't meet the reserve.

Joe Maggiore
joema@...

First the violin story. This is 1973 MG Midget that was recently restored (always garaged since restoration) and then rear ended just days after a fresh engine rebuild and new clutch: The car was totaled by the insurance company - I have the Salvage title only. I did not have the heart to see it sent to a yard and rot away since everything was right on this car. Here's a chance of a lifetime to get all the restoration parts in one shot - I used NOS whenever possible and have all receipts to prove it. I have over $10,000 invested into this car. The car is driveable, but the unibody is bent slightly on the trunk floor and buckled behind the trunk - thus I must sell it as a parts car. The good news is that the rest of the car appears untouched. Here's a PARTIAL list of what has been done to the Midget in the past year: Passed PA inspection just a couple of months ago and is still current. Newly rebuilt engine and three-piece clutch - engine has 70+ lbs of pressure when starting and was driven for hours without a problem (remember it was JUST rebuilt - so I haven't driven it for more than a weekend with the fresh rebuild). The engine never smoked, overheated or had serious problems even before the rebuild. Transmission is in excellent condition. New front Fenders, Hood, quarter panel, fan shroud - any rust (though minor) repaired correctly - underside of car was fine before restoration and did not need any repair. Rebuilt SU carburetors and new SU fuel pump. Gas tank slushed and re-etched.  All new suspension bushings, rebuilt front shocks and outer tie rods. New front disks, brake lines and rear brake hardware. All wiring and electrical repaired or replaced, new coil, wires, spark plugs, etc. Dashboard - perfect condition - not one crack! New carpet Recent top - clear window, no tears All new exhaust including hardware. Recently re-chromed front bumper and NOS bumperettes. New tires and trim rings. All new rubbers seals - door, trunk, lights, windows (including windshield seal). Rebuilt speedometer. New chrome trim: headlights, door sill, MIDGET lettering, grill surrounds, wiper bezels, etc. Plus many, many more miscellaneous parts replaced. Look at the pictures and see for yourself. Best of luck. Please save this car!!
