Charity golf outing

Larry Macy <macy@...>

I know this is not directly related to the MG Club, but this is a driend of
mine's 8 year old son. He has cancer and my softball team is organizing a
golf outing as a benefit. Below are the details and I apologize for not
being MG related, but I think its important.

Re: MGB Repair

Larry Macy <macy@...>

Joe,

Make sure you weld a brace across the top of the door frame. About the same
level as the outside door handle BEFORE you take the old rockers out. Some
folks even go so far as to build an X across from side to side. But if you
don't brace the top of the door frame (front to back) the car will fold when
you take out the sills. That also should insure that the doors will fit once
you get ready to put them back in. Don't depend on the doors to hold the
shape - they won't.

Larry

At this exact moment in time 8/29/01 10:37 PM, "Joe Maggiore"
<joema@...> made the profound statement:

This question applies to anyone that has tackled the job of replacing inner
and outer rockers, floors and repairing of the inner sill for an MGB.

This weekend I am taking on the task of repairing the abovementioned metal for
my 76 B. My question to any of you that have performed this if there is any
suggestions / helpful hints that might assist me in getting this job done
quickly and correctly. I have a friend doing most of the work that is an
experienced welder (he has restored cars that win at shows) but has never
restored a 'B'. He is mig welding the panels, but is doing it right by spot
welding rather than just tack welding them together - (perish the thought!).
I currently have the car up on stands and it is supported at the front leaf
spring hangers as well as the front engine support subframe section. The
front fenders and doglegs have already been removed.

I have already purchased the following metal:

Passenger front fender (pricey!)
Drivers side fender repair section (up to moulding)
doglegs
outer rockers
inner panel (middle of box section)
Castle rails - both sides
jack points and inner supports
rear filler (back of sills in fender)
inner sill repair section (they are still intact at both ends - thank
goodness)
passenger floor (drivers floor was replaced but only fiberglassed in place and
never painted!!)
cross member half

Thanks for your help,

Joe Maggiore

The bottom line: Sure, there's pain in adopting the Mac. But if I accept
that, I get to use a computer that works, and that pretty much does what I
expect and want a computer to do.

MGB & Midget FS - was: WOW - Even I don't believe it

Larry B. Macy <macy@...>

Well no longer in shock. I also knew it was too good to be true. She thought
about it, seriously. But her needs out weighed her wants. Her Probe (96 GT)
has 150,000 miles. A used engine with 50,000 miles. She drives 35,000 a year
(don't ask). She needed a reliable car and her financial situations said New
Subaru Outback Sport only. She probably woulda got the B as well, except the
dealer wouldn't give her enough on the Probe.

So the B is still for sale. It is a Blaze 1980 MGB. Needs a paint job, new
rubber on the windscreen, and has a repaired "Crack of Doom" on the door.
However, this amazed me, absolutely NO RUST!!!! None, zero, zilch. All
original, including the air pump, which still turns. Runs great. We drove it
nearly 100 miles before returning it. Was garaged and part of an estate sale
which included a Packard and a Jag. Reg (Solentmg) also looked at it and
thought it was a keeper. Had I been in the market, I woulda bought it.
Overdrive works too. This car should go to a good home. So one of you all go
take a look. He has somebody looking at it on Monday.

The guy also has a 1972 RWA Midget, and he just got a 1980 MGB LE this AM.
The Midget is in good shape, but has funky carpet (not the stock kind). No
idea what the LE looks like, it wasn't there. The dealer has a TD, MGBGT and
a 80 MGB of his own.

I asked if I could give out his info and he handed me his card.

Ridgley S. Ryman, Jr

the 1972 Tan Midget was $2700

(I think $6800 is a better price for the B, but what do I know, I am a
Midget driver ;-)

No financial interest, just passing on the info.

Now anybody want a nice 96 Ford Probe??

Larry

Boy do I wish she woulda bought that car - maybe next year, she said ;-)
