Re: Ocean Grove Car Show 9/20/14

Steve Harding

Club Members,
I failed to mention at Tuesday's GT that on the same day as the Brits OnThe Beach show the Vintage Racing Group is running at New Jersey Motorsports Park. We went to this a few years ago. Along with racing the British Motor Club of Southern New Jersey puts on a British car show in the infield - Bill Hixson won Best in Show one year! So, if there is a group that wants to attend this let me know and we can plan a caravan.

In the Works

The 1960 Italia 2000 #122 is steadily moving ahead. Chrome bits and leather hides are on the way. Parts are arriving from Italy regularly. All hydraulics have been rebuilt and ready to be road tested. Just waiting on reconditioned original Firsat radiator to make the engine run! More details to follow...

* A group of five Daimlers gathered at New Hope Auto Show for their national convention, some drove from as far as Canada.

A record breaking gate of over 10,000 spectators, better quality cars, and a new section back on the grass made the 57th New Hope Auto Show a huge success. Pre-registration closed out the week before the event. Good weather brought out over 250 cars per day. A good portion of proceeds will be donated to the Fox Chase Cancer Center. We always enjoy being part of the show and send our kudos to the staff that makes it all happen.

Through the Windscreen

As the unofficial end of summer is now upon us, there are still plenty of things to do in the vintage car world this fall. Next weekend is one of my favorite events of the year, the Watkins Glen SVRA Vintage Race weekend which kicks off with the Grand Prix Festival on Friday in downtown Watkins Glen. The featured highlight of the Festival is a tribute to the original Grand Prix races using the original 6.6 mile road course. Always a crowd pleaser, the Watkins Glen Grand Prix Tribute is designed to recreate the ambiance of the 1948-52 Watkins Glen street races. This year, the featured marque is MG. Rumor has it that Old Number One will be there along with many MG enthusiasts celebrating the 60th anniversary of MG's first race at the Glen. The day ends with the vintage racers driving down from the track and parading through town. What a sight! For more information visit http://www.grandprixfestival.com.

I plan to attend the 2014 VTR in Dobson, NC and Mike will attend LOG 34 in Ashville, NC. We also plan to be at the 18th Annual 100 Motorcars of Radnor on September 14 when this Concours will feature open wheel race cars, powered by Ford and classic Chryslers. As always we will be at Hershey this fall on the Chocolate Field from Oct. 8 - 11. We hope to see you then!

Don't forget, Ragtops & Roadsters is here to help out as the end of the driving season nears and its time to take care of those maintenance, restoration, preservation ,and upgrade needs on your car's wishlist. Click here or call us 215-257-1202 to schedule an appointment now. We have had a busy summer so far with eight major restorations underway and more arriving the fall. Click to see our Works In Progress page on our website. Also, we have recently listed more British Cars looking for new homes, see current listings on our For Sale page.

Happy Motoring,

Vintage Racing at Watkins Glen

Steve Harding

Dear Club Members,
If you have been on the fence about going to Watkins Glen for the vintage racing - MG being the Featured Marque - this may push you off the fence. I am unable to go and have two tickets for admission to the racetrack for this coming weekend. If you are able & want to go get hold of Ken Collins or Jim Schulte and they can hook you up with their caravan. Ken will have my tickets.

Hey Folks,

I want to try an organize an MG caravan to the Viewing. Let me know your thoughts. It is a tough time as most people working are traveling home from work and it is rush hour. I was thinking we could meet somewhere central for all to gather at 6:45 close to the Funeral Home. Open to suggestions. Otherwise we can just meet at the home and enter together with a club shirt on and guys wear a jacket over the shirt maybe..

Jim,
From Phil's to the funeral home is exactly 26 miles which should take about 40-45 minutes that time of day.

Steve,
Just thought Phil's would work well since everyone knows how to get there

Or we could meet at my house - it's a little bit closer to the Blue Route than Phil's is. Steve

How about everyone who wishes to attends meets at Phil's Tavern at 6:00 PM. From there we can easily jump on the Blue Route South to Ridley Park.....

Count me in.

How about wearing the MG2008 Lapel pin?  Or any MG pin?

Jim
