Would anyone know off hand, without me researching it, what timeline steam ran alongside diesel on the PRSL? What year t what year. My new Ho scale layout is under construction and I want to do a Time Machine type of layout, which would involve removing and adding in select engines and rolling stock to encapsulate a specific era. Anyone? It will be well appreciated! Thank you!

Andrew,

There are others more qualified than I to answer this question. But until they do let me direct you to the SJRail.com Wiki   https://web.archive.org/web/20160313131729/http://www.sjrail.com/wiki/index.php/Home_Page

PRSL "home" steam engines lasted until 1955 and the Baldwin yard and road diesels (and RDCs) began appearing in 1950.

When more power was needed the parent roads (PRR & RDG) were more than happy to dispatch their displaced steam engines to the PRSL rails to die here. The same goes for all their old F units, geeps, PAs, and FAs. So steam may have lasted possibly until 1957: PRR 0-6-0s, 2-8-0s, 4-4-2s, K4s and probably 2-8-2s. The Reading G3 Pacifics were popular in passenger service because of their tender capacity.
Hope this helps.

Keep 'em rollin'
Rick

Joe, definitely! Last steam on PRR was the Pemberton-Camden local with a K4s. My dad took me to Mt. Holly to see it early one morning! A PRR B6s did continue for a while on the Union Transportation out of New Egypt.

discounting the Pemberton and UT, P-RSL diesels arrived 1950 and steam continued to summer ending in 1957. Last runs were Atlantic City Race Trains and some Camden to Atlantic City plus Millville Locals
