Russ,
That's really deplorable !! Ridership like that makes it really difficult for me to convince NJT not to reduce some service. Thousands ride trains in North Jersey. But Covid might have some part in those ridership numbers down here. Also, the economy in Atlantic City isn't doing too well, especially after the summer tourist season. There were some large events in Atlantic City this past summer, like the air show, beach concerts, etc., that boosted rail ridership.

Re: North Jersey:
Wouldn’t the difference be because in North Jersey, it’s a commute as compared to recreational travel to AC?

BTW, (a little off topic) since we’re talking about AC, I recently acquired a neat historical video titled “Atlantic City Trolley Days”. I remember the trolleys on Atlantic Ave. (showing my age), since my family spent every summer in AC (we lived in Paulsboro in Glouscester county) because dad was an “Atlantic City boy”, born and raised there.
Anyway, there’s some neat footage on that disk of pre-PRSL electrified trains running from Camden to AC via Newfield, plus one astonishing bit: there was a spur on Mississippi Ave. that ran right to the boardwalk by the convention hall and the footage shows a B6 switcher hauling a box car away from the boardwalk area.
There’s lot’s of trolley footage on the DVD, plus a lot of footage of the “Shore Fast Line” that ran between AC and Ocean City via Pleasantville. Dad was motorman for that line as a summer job (while studying medicine in Phila.)
Atlantic City Transportation Co. ordered a fleet of “modern” trolley cars from Brill (bus-like, single directional) that were a unique design - different than those standard ones seen in Phila. and elsewhere. But they kept the older fleet of double-enders for high season. When those appeared in service, I remember letting the newer cars go by and waiting for those antiques for my ride (boy, what noise they made: whirring, grinding sound). I also remember riding across the “diamond” of that RR spur on Mississippi Ave., recognizable by the sound of 8 wheels crossing the rail gaps - 4 followed by 4 (“bump-ba-bump -bump-------bump-ba-bump -bump”)

IIRC, at one time they did run some of the trains to the airport. I believe it was a code-share arrangement with Continental Airlines. Now American Airlines has a bus to Atlantic City.

I made a point of riding from AC to the Philadelphia airport when that service was provided. As I recall, the switch leading from the northeast corridor to the escape track at Phil was, and I believe, still is hand operated. That would probably be viewed as a problem today.Michael Finfer Rockland, DE On Sep 28, 2022, at 3:23 PM, Peter Gentieu <prsl1953@...> wrote:

That was Amtrak that ran between Atlantic City and Philadelphia International Airport.
Both North and South Jersey trains get commuters, but New York City has many more of them than Atlantic City, and Philadelphia has a Wage Tax to scare some of them away.

Certainly would have to be fixed.
I think the market would Cherry Hill, Lindenwold, Atco to the airport. Not a fun drive.
Would also help if service was hourly.
Old code sharing deal with Amtrak was Milwaukee-based Midwest Airlines. Mergered with Frontier and that was the end of that.
