Updated Arduino Software

One of the best would be an AD9912 DDS with a low noise 1GHz clock. Good to 400 MHz or so.  Lower phase noise than the Si570 and with the internal 14 bit DAC, the spurs are quite low.

For higher frequencies, I'd suggest a PLL setup.
A VCO running at the right range, also feeding a frequency divider [help square up a sine wave] and phase detector. Reference signal from Si570, low pass filter and feed back to VCO.

From memory, the Si570 has better phase noise the the Si5350 so you might get something working the way you want.

Hi Jim,
Is a HF/VHF/UHF PHSNA possible. I am thinking about Si570 chip with an Ardunio NANO controller as hardware. In fact I had already one rigged up and waiting for a suitable software.

You could look at the Sweeperino by Asher Farhan at
http://hfsignals.blogspot.in/p/sweeperino.html
Basic SNA using a si570 and Ad8307 power meter with 2 line display for stand alone use. He also has a PC program for control and graphing.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for the prompt response. Hardware as I have
mentioned already is wired and waiting for the software . Since already
one exists for HF I believe it will be only a nominal change to include
the new chip Si570 instead of AD9850. We are almost there and it will be
a big quantum jump in capabilities if only any software savvy member can
help?

I suppose it can be done... assuming the square wave can be dealt with.
But it won't be something that I plan to work on - hardware nor software.

Check that the libraries you expect to have are actually in the library folder. And also check that the filenames and the references in the code are the same case - apparently the filenames/library names are case sensitive.

Problems solved. As it turns out the PHSNA software was not the problem et all, I unknowingly lost power to the main board. Sorry I sent out the message without trouble-shooting more. However, I am still having a few issues with the Arduino upgrade but with some non-related sketches I am working on. For some reason I am getting Invalid library messages now. They re-arranged the menu's too.

Thanks anyway to all that tried to help!!!

I'm not sure why upgrading to the latest Arduino IDE would make PHSNA fail.  Did you decide to re-compile PHSNA and have a failure during uploading?

One alternative to the Arduino IDE is codebender. Since it's on-line, presumably it would work under different OS's.  I've used it a bit and it worked fine for me.

I have been receiving constant reminders to upgrade the Arduino Software and finally fell for it. My PHSNA windows version has been working flawlessly for at least a year and now it does not work at all after I upgraded to version 1.6.8. Has anyone had the same experience? Luckily I have a backup drive and if I have to I will try to revert. This is almost as depressing as the Windows 10 upgrade which is constantly being pushed down our throats! I currently run Windows7 64 bit and I am perfectly satisfied. Would it make sense to upgrade to Linux and bypass all of this torture? Please advise?

Hi,

I dumped Gates and Microsoft decades ago and never looked back. If you are familiar with MS Windows and it's problems you should carefully consider switching. If you have a store bought computer that came with MS Windows and a setup disk (either a CD/DVD or a separate hard drive partition you should consider keeping it, too. Linux is so far superior to MS Windows for my needs and wants there is no comparison. But it is NOT a panacea. You will be trading one set of issues for a completely different set of issues and it takes time to acclimate. I prefer the problems I encounter with Linux to the MS variety. You will also have to become "IT staff" and work under the hood a lot more. If you decide to switch you will find at least as much help online with Linux as with MS Windows.

I recently upgraded and am running 1.6.8.

I am not currently experiencing any problems.

You might try completely remove all traces of the Arduino IDE and try doing a fresh/clean install.
