Re: Best Flux to Solder AD9851 SSOP
Are you using a tin/lead solder? If so I use Kester 951 low residue soldering flux. I have extra 951 flux if you need some. I also have 959 flux if you could use that.

Best Flux to Solder AD9851 SSOP
Dear All:
I have bought a liquid flux which contains Dimetilcarbinol to solder my AD9851 chip, the problem that I have is that the Tin causes bridges between some pins.

Re: AD9851 module
I ordered an AD9851 module via eBay. Got it yesterday. Connected it to a Type II PHSNA board today. Had a cockpit issue (not unusual for me) but now it's working fine with the Windows GUI.

Re: AD9851 module
I ordered two modules at different times from this outfit.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/131502143562?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Both came within two to three weeks

Re: AD9851 module
you might add also ALC section as add on and thereafter you get constant output across full range .
Here is the link to the ALC element.

Re: AD9851 module
If I was starting all over again, I'd get the DDS-60 module.
Yes, it costs more - but it has a buffer amp and low pass filter, ready to go.
Just my $0.02.

Oh... I just remembered that I could do that because I am using a 5V op-amp!

FYI, here's a plot of a DDS-60 output from 1 to 61 MHz with the output level set to 0 dBm at 1 MHz.

Re: DDS Module is not functioning
Haha, we can't have those old analog scopes voting!
I couldn't find the info on my DDS-60's output so I ran a plot on it just now and see that I'm at +1 dBm at 2 MHz decreasing to -3.5 dBm at 60 MHz.

Re: DDS Module is not functioning
Nick:
My mistake in describing the falling power as 6 dB per octave in my last e-mail. Must have been a brain glitch.
Real answer is that the output voltage from the synthesizer is level at 350 mV

Experimenter Board Ideas
I've posted a file showing some different ways I've constructed Experimenter Boards (still in progress). May be of use to others.
And by the way I disagree... DDS Modules ARE fun... ;-)

Re: DDS Module is not functioning
Glad you're making progress, John.
Your device doesn't need to be calibrated in terms of absolute power to do most of its functions, as Will noted. But you do need to have the slope and intercept

Re: DDS Module is not functioning
Glad it's all working, John. It is a fun and useful tool in the shack.
As Will said - the trimmer is to set the reference voltage for the Arduino's A/D converter.
It normally is set as close to BUT
