Cheap encoders

I have bought some of the cheap encoders.

On a price point/quality comparison, you get what you pay for.

They also don't like being turned at a fast rate of knots. Have worn one out in ~1yr, but it did get a lot of use.

Bottom line, they are fine if you are not looking high quality and for the average (homebrewer) ham, they do the job.

If you want commercial rig VFO feel, you need an optical encoder (either purchased or homebrewed).
