Openboat Openboat2@groups.io

Group Description

Openboat is dedicated to the cruising of open boats and small yachts in coastal or inland waters.

It is the designated successor to the Yahoo group of the same name,  founded in 1999 by Johnny Adams,  following the effective closure of Yahoo Groups.   This present group is set up with Johnny A's blessing and encouragement,  following his decision to retire from running the group.

It provides a forum for discussion and the interchange of information and expertise on open boats and dinghies and small yachts, cruising grounds, technical and safety matters related to dinghy and small yacht cruising, supply of equipment suitable for such cruising, and a place to post information about rallies and passages organised by associations and individuals.

Newcomers are moderated while they test the waters. Drifting off topic is tolerated within reason. Consider it the equivalent of the sailing club bar!

As well as the Message Boards, do browse the Photos and the Files sections,  (and return to them from time to time, as on the old site there was a wealth of material there,  and we hope in time either to transfer it all or to make the archive available in another way).   And we hope to also be able to set up a Links section,  which you may find useful.

Please be aware that out total storage limit is only 1GB;   that may sound a lot,  but it is relatively little per member.    If you are able to do so,  please therefore limit the size of photos which you upload,  and please avoid uploading videos;    we suggest that you put the latter on Youtube,  and simply post the link on this site.    Thank you.

We aim to change the cover photo from time to time,  using members' photos (possibly amongst others).   Current cover photo is Group Owner's boat,  Tarka II,  approaching The Stacks off the Calf of Man,  August 2018.
