Mary Elizabeth Oswalt Brumbaugh of rural Camden, daughter of Glen Dale and Hettie Bower Oswalt, passed from this life at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2022, at the home of her son, Denver.

She was born Dec. 3, 1924, in Darke County, Ohio. She passed at 97 years, 8 months, and 20 days. She was a member of the Old Brethren German Baptist Church, to which faith she held faithful to the end.

She was united in marriage on Jan. 22, 1944, to Herman D. Brumbaugh. To this union was born four children. Their early married life was spent in Darke Co., Ohio. Later in the year of 1970, they moved to their home in rural Carroll County, near Camden.

Surviving are: Norma Best (friend John Keller) of Greenville, Ohio, Betty and Lael Royer and Denver and Regina Brumbaugh of Camden, and Ivan and Shawn Brumbaugh of Delphi; six grandchildren, Michelle and Matt Kennedy of Logansport, Amy and Daryl Brumbaugh and Mark and Sarah Royer of Delphi, Ellie and Richard Brumbaugh, Keith and Mary Brumbaugh, and Ethan and Deborah Brumbaugh of Camden; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Preceding in death were her parents; her husband, Herman; a grandson, Glen Dale Brumbaugh; a brother, J. Jude and Marilee Oswalt; six sisters, Dorothy and Gene Ewing, Edith and Fred Flora, Martha and Ezra Brumbaugh, May and Lloyd Flora, Ruth and Charles Diehl, and Annie and David Grim; and a daughter-in-law, Kellie Brumbaugh.

As she lost her loved ones, she reached out and became “mom” and “Grandma Mary” to many others.

The Brumbaugh family invites friends to visit, Thursday, Aug. 25, from 1 to 8 p.m. at the home of Denver Brumbaugh, 2917 N. 200 W. Camden, Ind. 46917. Graveside service with the casket open will be Friday, Aug. 26, at 9:30 a.m. at Musselman Cemetery, near Camden. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the Old Brethren German Baptist Church, with home brethren officiating.
