OGBB (Old German Baptist Brethren Church).  Interesting story on growing up (some Old Order still practice) with no electricity

George Rufus Flora, the third son of Willie and Cecel Garber Flora was born at their home near Brookville, Ohio on Aug. 17, 1925. He answered the call and was baptized into the fellowship of the Old German Baptist Brethren Church by Le Roy Garber, and remained faithful throughout his life. He spent his growing up years with his brothers and sister while living in the Wolf Creek district. He went to school eight years in a two room school within two miles of where he was born. In March 1945, he was drafted into Civilian Public Service for two years. On returning home, he was occupied in farm work. On July 26, 1947, he married Treva Ilene Garber of Phillipsburg, Ohio, the fourth daughter of Lee and Ada Miller Garber, by brother Will Thomas, at her home.

To this union were born one daughter and four sons. They shared the joys and sorrows of life together just a few months short of 70 years, when his companion passed away on Nov. 17, 2016.

They started their first home in a two-room house on the home farm for four years. In 1951 they moved to Salem district, where their children were raised. They spent the years there farming and dairying. Twenty-two years later they returned back to a farm in Wolf Creek district, where he also farmed and drove a school bus. The rest of his life was spent at the home his father Willie built. After retirement, he spent 15 years working for a car rental agency.

He is survived by his daughter, Lois Kay and Everett Miller of Garnett, KS, 4 sons; Gerald and Bonita Flora of Covington, OH, Roger and Zelpha Flora of Pitsburg, OH, Dale and Elaine Flora of Brookville, OH, and Galen and Nancy Flora of Casstown, OH. His sister, Esther Rogers of Greenville, OH, and a brother, David and Marilyn Flora of Brookville, OH. A sister-in-law, Helen Garber, a brother-in-law, Merle Benedict, brother-in-law Harvey and Betty Bowman. Twelve grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and 15 great great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were 2 daughters-in-law, Melinda Flora and Lori Flora, great granddaughter, Carina Stamy, great grandson-in-law, Jordan Eichman. Two brothers, Glenn Flora and wife Sarah and Joseph Flora and wife Mable. In-laws, Earl Rogers, Russel Lesh and wife Margaret, Thomas King and wife Pearl, Richard Garber, Gladys Benedict, Everet Brubaker and wife Wilma.

During his boyhood days, he experienced farming with horses, living before electricity and the auto came into use. He lived through the depression and before social security come into being. As we experience the loss of our father and grandfather, we rejoice in the promises of God and await a glorious resurrection day.

Visitation will be held from 2-5 and 6-8pm on Wednesday at the Wolf Creek Old German Baptist Brethren Church, 11081 South Wolfcreek Pike, Brookville, Ohio 45309. Funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022 also at the church. Interment will follow at Eversole Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton in memory for George. http://www.RogersFuneralHomes.com
