Alberta Phyciodes
Norbert Kondla
#11136
Today I found a student thesis on the internet.
https://era.library.ualberta.ca/items/e93c9ec3-b9bb-4a3b-ba6d-c5bf7440bc91
I decided almost 50 years ago that there are 4 species of Phyciodes
in Alberta, so that is not new. Note that the reference to 'tharos' in the
document is actually a reference to Phyciodes orantain. These butterflies
do sometimes present identification challenges.
And also I put some photos from 2020 to work in a graphic of P. cocyta
https://flic.kr/p/2o1BBb7
Compare with P. orantain summer brood, which some have thought to be
conspecific with cocyta
