Just to put a human face on this Phyciodes topic; here is a link to a shot of old
geezer Kondla and student Wingert in P. orantain habitat in 2017.

Today I found a student thesis on the internet.
I decided almost 50 years ago that there are 4 species of Phyciodes
in Alberta, so that is not new. Note that the reference to 'tharos' in the
document is actually a reference to Phyciodes orantain. These butterflies
do sometimes present identification challenges.
And also I put some photos from 2020 to work in a graphic of P. cocyta
Compare with P. orantain summer brood, which some have thought to be
conspecific with cocyta
