Potential, possible, or probable predatory scholarly open‑access publishers

"This is a list of questionable, scholarly open-access publishers. We recommend that scholars read the available reviews, assessments
and descriptions provided here, and then decide for themselves whether they want to submit articles, serve as editors or on editorial boards.
In a few cases, non-open access publishers whose practices match those of predatory publishers have been added to the list as well.
The criteria for determining predatory publishers are here."

Cabell’s: ‘Our journal Blacklist differs from Jeffrey Beall’s’

R. Prasad

"

Five months after Jeffrey Beall, librarian at the University of Colorado, Denver, shut down his widely consulted blog (Scholarly Open Access)
that listed predatory journals and publishers, Cabell’s International, based in Beaumont, Texas, launched Cabell’s Blacklist,
a list of predatory journals, on June 15. Predatory journals cheat researchers by charging fees to publish papers but without carrying any peer review,
allowing even trash to be published.

Besides the Blacklist, the Cabell’s also publishes a Whitelist of journals, and both the lists can be accessed for a fee at the company’s website,

http://www.cabells.com.

Kathleen Berryman, Project Manager at Cabell's says the company uses a set of criteria to identify deceptive practices employed by journals and will
maintain transparency, unlike Beall’s."

[This article answers questions like these]

How many publishers and/or journals have been included in the list? Is it restricted to Open Access journals?

What criteria will you use to judge a journal? How transparent will that be to publishers and researchers?

What major differences can one see in your list compared with Jeffrey Beall’s?

Feds Target 'Predatory' Publishers

The Federal Trade Commission is "marking a line in the sand" with its first lawsuit against publishers
that take advantage of scholars wishing to publish in open-access journals.

August 29, 2016

Inside Higher Ed

The Federal Trade Commission on Friday filed a complaint against the academic journal publisher OMICS Group
and two of its subsidiaries, saying the publisher deceives scholars and misrepresents the editorial rigor of its journals.

The complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada, marks the first time the FTC has gone
after what are often known as “predatory” publishers. Such publishers exploit open-access publishing as a way to charge
steep fees to researchers who believe their work will be printed in legitimate journals, when in fact the journals may publish
anyone who pays and lack even a basic peer-review process.
