Battery does not hold charge - brand new unit!
3
When connected to USB, 3 of the LEDs are solidly on and the top one blinks. As soon as it is disconnected from USB the unit is dead. The battery is NOT charging. When I first unboxed the brand new unit a week or so ago the battery had a charge on it. What is wrong? Must I send it back to get if fixed?

Firmware for NanoVNA V2plus4
3
Where can I find the latest firmware for the NanoVNA V2plus4, please? I have: nanorfe-20220814-v2plus45.bin I tried a couple from those listed there: https://groups.io/g/nanovna-beta-test/topic/106684758 but they don't work, and seem to be too small in any case. I was hoping to have the latest features. I was able to restore firmware nanorfe-20220814-v2plus45.bin, so the device is OK. The device was bought from Tindie: https://nanorfe.com/nanovna-v2.html Thanks, David -- SatSignal Software - Quality software for you Web: https://www.satsignal.eu Email: davidtaylor@... My NanoVNA arrives today... Already have a question....
4
I have a DX Commander Classic vertical fan antenna I just installed and needing tuning. The antenna is at the end of a 70 ft (21.3m metric) RG-213 feedline. What is the best method of calibration/testing during this process? 1. Test right at the antenna base, requiring me to be right near antenna during testing? 2. Calibrate by putting the SOL on the end of the feedline near where it connects to the antenna so as to negate the feedline? And will it even calibrate this way? 3. Just calibrate at operator's station, the connect the feedline and test from the operator end? 4. Or test at the antenna then test at the operator's station end? I appreciate any thoughts on this from those "cured" hams that "have been there and done that." Thank you and 73, Dave, KJ7WUZ "The Uncured Ham"

NEVER HEARD OF THAT BEFORE
7
Gday all, As tech support, at Intel, once confided: "if it's hardware it can fail". Fair enough, the 2nd law rules. HOWEVER, STILL/YET/ALWAYS hearing "NEVER heard of THAT before!", after 30 years of Hamming, causes one to take-a-step-back, pause and review one's practices, e.g., I dont throw stuff against shack walls. If you will permit, I begin to suspect we are being ripped, royally, far TOO many times, to be personally at fault. With expenditures for modern gear, it is not outrageous to ask/plead for/expect/demand diagnostic gear lasts more than, say, 2 sessions. My 1st nano came from R&L. The USB port, at the rear of the housing "retired further & deeper, into the housing til it made no connection. R&L DEFINITELY heard about that. My skills were not competent to disassemble and troubleshoot. I ordered another one - from R&L - and the SECOND time I tried to use it, TODAY, - well, those who do not learn the lessons of history are doomed.... JUST got-off the phone with R&L, whose "tech" support/savvy guy piped-up NEVER HEARD OF THAT BEFORE!!! Yeh, he did - from ME. After disassembling this SAA-2N, I couldnt even SEE where the external USB connector goes, on the PCB. OK, I can still use it manually. Hams might be frugal but they are also fixers; sometime work-arounds. Needless to say, I choose to not "support" R&L with my, repetitive, business, any longer. Has ANYONE "ever heard about this before"?? Has anyone fixed this problem, even if never hearing if it? From where would the knowledgeable Ham purchase her NEXT nano? I admit, with full culpability, I got used to the sftwr and, almost, forgot how to use the thing manually. For shame, yes, but I love data to which I can refer back, and graphs, visuals, pix are the way - up or down - of the world. Thanks for any Elmering, soothing, commiseration, pity, birthday gifts [relax, you have til May 18th, 2025. OUCH!] 73 Phil, WF3W

F.S. MInt SAA2-N
I have just aquired the 7" Chelegance SV4401A and no longer need my nanoVNA. This one has been modified in an important way. As most of you know, the N connectors have no support behind the front panel. If one continues to tighten the hex nuts, the N connector wold be torn off of the PCB. I milled a pair of the N hex nuts to the correct thickness so that when placed inside the front panel they allow the external nuts to be properly torqued and place zero stress on the N connectors. Comes with original packaging and parts including SOL type N. $68 + USPS Priority shipping. Dale W4OP

Marine antena swr
6
Hi I’m new to this device and probably got something set up wrong I’m trying to measure a marine antena setup for swr. Since the antena is on top of the mast I measure at the end of the cable 20-25m long supplied with antena. I’ve calibrated device I set the range from 100.000 000 MHz To 200.000 000 MHz Them zeros at the end are a bit confusing hope this is right I like to measure this at 156.8 MHz What is odd to me is that my line showing a lot of small ups and downs. I was expecting a rather strainer parabolic lane with one dip. The values ranging from 2.6 at 156MHz To 4.26 at 153MHz And repeating at this interval What am I looking here and what is wrong I was expecting one straighter line with one dip I’m getting 15 dips at this range and when I increase the range by much the lowest values are at 600-800MHz range but still with a lot of dips 760MHz- 1.17 736MHz-3.37 There must be something wrong with them readings but I don’t know what I don’t know Thank you for your help.

New User - Odd VSWR
5
I got a VNA (SAA2N) for Christmas a year ago but due to circumstance have not been able to learn to use until recently. I’m playing with a home brew 2M ground plane to learn to trim antennas (since I don’t mind cutting it up while learning). The antenna coax connects to the radio with a PL-259 termination. After calibrating for the 2M range, the VSWR trace shows infinity. I understand the need to calibrate at the end of any cable connection. However, since the VNA is an N connection and the antenna is a PL-259, I have to use an adapter. I noticed that when placing the adapter on the VNA the VSWR immediately jumps to 3.25 without connecting the antenna (I tried 2 different connectors). I would have thought the adapter would have very little effect. Tests show I’m not getting a short between the case & pin on the adapters. My questions are: Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? If I need to calibrate at the end of the adapter are there calibration loads available for the UHF SO-239 & PL-259 series of connectors or do I have to make my own? (I have not found any on the net yet.)

white screen
14
My SAA-2N has a white screen now, after working fine for almost a year. I re-flashed the firmware. NanovnaQT found the device and programmed it. No change. I hope the binary file was correct. Any suggestion would be helpful. Is it possible the screen connector became undone? I suppose I could run some scans via the PC program to see it it is just a screen problem... 73 Glen K4KV

JOY OF LEARNING - WHITHER LABVIEW?
For all the world to see, I have solved my Com Ports problem! As usual, MS and WIN11 were at fault. Here are the machinations for correction; you're copy of WIN11 may be different, including port number assignments [this is meant as derogation]: UNinstall Virtual Serial Port 00, under Other Devices Run CypressDriverInstaller_1.exe Device Mgr will now display USB SERIAL PORT (COM 3) and CP210x USBto UART Bridge (Com 4)... under "Ports (Com & LPT)" Order is important: unplug your nano and turn it off UNinstall & REinstall programs - if necessary Plug-in and turn-on nano You might find WSJT, now, no longer "works". It took 5 tries but 1 of the Com Ports in the drop-down list will, eventually work, i.e., there is no new nor additional issues to fight As I shut-down the computer, last night, I was forced/compelled to accept a WIN11 update... until I test ALL sftwr, I am shuddering and naseous... 73Phil, WF3W

WHITHER LAB-VIEW?

#nanovna-saver
Hello all frugal, fun lovers, At present, I am enjoying zero fun, vna-speaking. I installed Lab-View and tried running it from various folders, with and without sftwr in that same folder. NO matter the sftwr package, I get an instantanious ALERT, that Lab-View cannot be found. I have downloaded QT, NanoSaver, Solver64, et al. NONE of these recognize any Com Ports on my system [the are 3, 2 of which are Standard & Enhanced], with or without the nanovna connected. To more fully portend a brighter year, Id like to solicit your help, guidance, and thoughts & prayers, at least. I emailed Prof Broberg, in desperation. 73 Phil, WF3W

NanoVNASaver

Can anyone tell me what happened to NanoVNASaver binary's for windows? The installation instructions says where to find them, but when I click the button, I end up on a git page, that laconically says "Sorry no binary's". No explanation at all! Thanks.

Firmware Versions
9
I have a VNA SAA-2N with hardware V2_2 that came loaded with firmware v1.3.07. It seems to work fine but I sense that there are newer versions of the firmware out there. I found v1.3.15 that supports an SD card but I don't know what other improvements or bug fixes is may contain. (I did see the post here where someone added the SD card hardware.) There also seems to be a v1.3.18 out there but I can't find it. There is not much info on the Zeenko site or that I can find on GitHub/DiSlord. (I'm not up to the task of compiling from the source code) Where can I find release notes on these versions so I decide to update or not and where can I find the .bin files? Thanks in advance for any direction.

Settings other than 50 ohms?
4
I am new to this and I have looked but cannot find anything to tell me what a couple of the setting do. There are two that let you change from the default of 50 ohms. Under the Measure menu there is "Measure R1=50 ohms". What does this do? Then under the Display menu there is "Port-Z 50 -> 50 ohms". The Port-Z setting centers the Smith chart but what else does it do, if anything? One last question (for now), Under the Calibrate menu what does "Enhanced Response" do? Tried this question on the other group but didn't get any response. Thanks.

Test Board Kit Assembly Instructions?
2
I got my test board kit unassembled- nothing soldered to it. Nothing looks complicated about building it, except for the 49 ohm resistors. Are there some instructions for building and using it somewhere? I've struck out searching nanovna.com and the internet at large, so far. 1. Where do I put the resistors? 2. Can I use a standard soldering pencil to install them? I have a KSGER with a T12-ILS tip, which is tiny. How hot should I set it for? When I do conventional soldering with a slightly larger tip, I set it to 380° but what's good for SMD components.

SAA2-2N ver 2_2 Bricked?
2
Hello, I recently attempted to do the auto upgrade via VNA-QT, Once completed I did the Pwr reset of the nano, All that I get now is a constant White screen no matter what I do. When I try to put the device DFU mode, there is simply no connect-ability from the PC to the SAA2-2N Ver 2_2. (again just a White Screen period) I have been doing so much research, at this point, all has only lead to mass confusion. I'm retired with 27 yrs as a dispatch FE and CO Installer in the Telecommunications arena, where technology is constantly changing. I've worked from everything from Fiber, Satellite maintenance and installations to 56 kbs circuits. If I had the right cable, I could talk & configure any new device thrown at me, with training or not . But Programming a CPU or MPU is out of my league. Thus, I'm seeking your help and step by step directions on how to overcome this issue, if at all possible. Do I need to purchase a St-Link device or other ? Seems to me that I'm in an endless loop. I've been on the following associated links many times. I've created this new Post, hoping to get everything concisely on one page. As for the link below, I've been there and everywhere multiple times. https://groups.io/g/NanoVNA-V2/topic/93387890#2277 Tks for any help; Roger / KI8DU

replacement of the nanovna v2 display
3
Hello! Help please. I replaced the display on my nanovnav2 due to the fact that the old one was damaged. The Nanovna M2 is original and was purchased on indie one of the first! After replacing the display, I was disappointed, the image for some reason became vertical and distorted. There was a feeling that you need to switch the orientation of the display, but I do not know how to do it. At first I thought that the problem was in the board to which the display was soldered and I soldered it to my native one, removing the broken display from there - but this did not give any results and the image was inverted again. I ask you to help me with my problem.

Calibrate with my N-to-SO-239 adapters
16
Hi all- got me a brand new SAA-2N VNA, and need to know how to calibrate taking the N-SO-239 adapters I use into account. The adapters are 35mm long, and the distance from the tip of the center conductor on the N side to the end of the center conductor on the SO-239 end is about 32 to 33mm. The unit has firmware version: 1.3.07 Build Aug 30 2022 - 10:33:15 I read somewhere (and can't find it again) that I have to add an offset to the calibration to make it accurate. I measured the SWR of an antenna that my old MFJ-259 said was worse than 3:1 in the 2M band, and the SAA-2N gave me different results. I think I'd be stupid not to believe the output of the brand new NanoVNA over the ancient MFJ-259, but will use of these adapters skew my results? 73 es TIA de N9QQB
