Where can I find Joe Smith's S/W ? #documentation
I have finally found time to try and load-up Joe Smith's brilliant S/W for my elderly NanoVNA SAA-2N
The unit is working fine and I have never thought to upgrade the Firmware... on the premise that: IF IT AIN'T BROKE.... DON'T FIX IT. I know this has been asked about 1000 times.. and yes... I DID SEARCH... but at 77 my olde brain ain't working that well any more. So.... 'ere goes... can a kind soul give me the link to that (I think 21 ZIP files I have to install ? (Latest release) I do know that this superb S/W is NOT for the faint of heart and YES.... I HAVE READ THE MANUAL. I never touched the firmware, would it be worth upgrading to DISLORD's ? latest release on this VNA ? It is the one with the N type connectors. bought from Amazon USA. Again guys... plseaseaccept my apologies... I should be able to find this on my own.... but I just cannot see it. The Unit is made by HKCNMA, I presume that they are in China ? |

Hello my friend I understand (I'm 77 too) The new version is simple to install:
1. Download and install the community (Free version) of LabViuw https://www.ni.com/en-gb/support/downloads/software-products/download.labview-community.html#443310 2. make the installation reboot your computer ( *live alone LabViuw for the moment* ) is only for the file necessary for the VNA software. 3. go to GTub: Download the: https://github.com/joeqsmith/NanoVNA-Solver64-/blob/main/NanoVNA_Solver.exe 4. Install this version of NANO SOLVER 64 on your PC/ computer. 5. Make sure on the INI.file is complete (I send on copy on the attachment file if need) And I hope om my geriatric mind I don't forget other think (On my case work with the NanoVNA SSA2, the NanoV.2plus4, and the LiteVNA 64. If need some other help not hesitate to call. Best Regards. Francesco. *Sent:* Monday, March 21, 2022 at 4:05 PM *From:* "Albert Kleyn" <ei7ii.ie@...> *To:* NanoVNA-V2@groups.io *Subject:* [NanoVNA-V2] Where can I find Joe Smith's S/W ? #documentation I have finally found time to try and load-up Joe Smith's brilliant S/W for my elderly NanoVNA SAA-2N The unit is working fine and I have never thought to upgrade the Firmware... on the premise that: IF IT AIN'T BROKE.... My dear friend.... I need yr help. Downloaded the community version of Labview as suggested. It was an ISO image. Extracted it. Now have amongst others the install.exe, plus various other files in the EXTRACTED LABVIEW folder. Tried to run the install.exe from there. Get error msg as below: [image: image.png] Am doing something wrong Franscesco.. but just cannot figure it out. It looks like yr 77 yr old brain is in much better shape than mine... perhaps I should give up computers and go "Postage Stamp Collecting " ?? <smile>. Should the installer not create the needed path??? Albert EI7II. Gracias ! (Millie Graci) On Mon, 21 Mar 2022 at 21:24, Francesco <realfran@...> wrote:

Albert,
An iso image has to be extracted to a CD, DVD, or Flash Drive... Think of it as a specialized ZIP file that when extracted with iso image software all of the Boot and Executable files are put in the proper place and format so the installer will self start or start when the CD/DVD is loaded when you boot the PC... If you have ever put a Windows os CD/DVD into your drive you have noticed how it auto starts the install process.... Discs like those can be archived "burned" to an iso image and stored on a hard drive... I assume you still have access to a CD or DVD burner and a blank CD or DVD... Ashampoo has a free and paid version of software to do this for various versions of Windows... https://www.ashampoo.com/en-us/free-downloads Set the Category to Burning Software then scroll down and select the Burning Studio FREE or use one of the other Trial versions... Yes, the trial version works 100% for a week or so.... Extracting to a flash drive is very similar but uses different software... If you get this far and still need help email and I'll try to help you from 3,800 miles away... 73 Dallas N4DDM |

*Thank you and Franscesco *so very much. I have burn aware free here and will burn the ISO to a CD... or Blue Ray... I still have them in both PC's THANK YOU both again.... while VARA HF and Winlink Express was a wee bit of a set up.... Labview foxed me. Compared with those two... labview had me on my knees ! Will keep you posted... feel like a bloody fool for not figuring this out myself.. but as said... ye olde brain is packing up. FYI.... my brother was K6OPY... ( La Jolla, San Diego)...(long passed away ) so Hamradio runs in the family. But his brain worked a lot better than mine !!! Albert EI7II. After downloading Solver 64 from here:
https://github.com/joeqsmith/NanoVNA-Solver64-/archive/refs/heads/main.zip Just unzip .. To run the program you don't need to install the whole LabVIEW 2021.., so no ISO and CD burning is needed! 1. Download and install the LabVIEW Runtime 2021 SP1 (64bit Version) from here: https://www.ni.com/en-us/support/downloads/software-products/download.labview-runtime.html#443841 2. ..And the NI.VISA from here: https://www.ni.com/en-us/support/downloads/drivers/download.ni-visa.html#442805 After rebooting your PC: Open the unziped Solver 64 folder and hit NanoVNA_Solver.exe The program should start.. Then you have to setup your COM Ports and save the configuration Here is a video demonstrating Solver64 with the LiteVNA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4eLcTC4Ako There is also a useful manual, that was written before Solver64 was released and is very helpful for the first steps: https://github.com/joeqsmith/NanoVNA_Software/blob/main/software_users_manual_r23.pdf 73 Cyp DL1CYP |

Albert,
Sorry for the delay in replying... I'll try to duplicate the steps of downloading Joe Smith's S/W and burning the ISO image to a CD/DVD to see where the problem is... I'm assuming you used the ISO burn feature of your burning software to write Joe's xyz123.iso file to the CD/DVD and didn't just copy files to the disc? My next reply will be direct to your QRZ listed email address... 73 Dallas N4DDM |

Followed the instruction to the letter. Ye all be delighted to know that
Joe's S/W is now running just fine. Yippeee ! As Joe many a time has pointed out..... this s/w is NOT for the beginner. I just have to re-read the manual a few more times... but... NO crashes. I'll put the manual under my pillow.... with some luck some of it will seep thru. Can I please say a HUGE THANK YOU to Fransesco, Dallas and Cyprian. Even I was not able to screw up Cyprian's instructions, they were crystal clear... THANK YOU ! Without the invaluable help given to me by you folks here in this forum I would have just given up. Instead.... Joe's S/W is now smiling at me and my NanoVNA. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU and tks to Mike the Sysop for not kicking me of the forum ! You have a Happy Camper here ! Albert EI7II.
