SAA-2N Firmware Upgrade
Ed Wilson
Colleagues,
I have owned an SAA-2N 4 inch NanoVNA for a few months now and would like to update it to the latest firmware version. My unit says that I am running git-20201206-7f64a84 firmware. I have seen recent discussions on this list about version 1.0.69. I was wondering if this version is compatible with my SAA-2N and if so, where can I download the binary file? If 1.0.69 is not compatible, what would be a recommended update and where would I download it? Thanks for the info in advance! Ed, K0KC |

Hi Ed,
DiSlord has suggested that you can get 1.0.69 from: https://groups.io/g/nanovna-users/files/Dislord%27s%20Nanovna%20-H%20Firmware/NanoVNA%20v1.0.69%20fw%20pack.zip Upgrading with nanovna-qt is easy. Extract the downloaded files to some folder. Turn the 2N off, connect it to USB and while holding the left button depressed, turn it on. The screen should stay all white, Start nanovna-qt. It should prompt that the device is in upload mode, and ask if you want to upload. Click OK, answer the file selection prompt by selecting the .bin file. It will take a few seconds to upload. Be sure to redo all CALs and Screen Cal. |

Has anyone on this list tried this upgrade on an SAA-2N and been successful? My understanding is that my SAA-2N is a clone and may not be compatible with the "official" firmware releases.

it is a clone .. yes ... it is compatible with fw that is written for v2 with 4 inch screen (NO NOT V2PLUS4 FW!!)

Ok, I upgraded the firmware to 1.0.69 and things appear to be working but I need to do some more testing to be sure.

There are several firmware variants in the zipfile. Is V2 480x320 v1.0.69.bin the correct one for the
SAA-2N? Thanks! Dave |

That variant seems to be working fine for me on my SAA-2N.

Hallo Sigi,
??? Ich will hier nichts defekt flashen hi.. 73 Georg DC8GY |

I notice that SAA2N-D-211210.bin is 74.5 k and V2 480x320 v1.1.00.bin is

85.1 K. Both apparently work with the 2N. You say the first is "specially compiled," evidently just for the 2N. I assume the extra bits in the second file are for other devices. Could anyone confirm? Thanks! Dave On Sun, Dec 19, 2021 at 5:07 PM Jempi ( ON7MA ) <on7ma@...> wrote:

Use firmware from DiSLord 1.1.0.
The type of connectors is not important, the instrument boards are the same! The difference in connectors, the device will remove during calibration! |

I guess I started this thread back in August when I was concerned with which version of 1.0.69 was compatible with my SAA-2N with a 4 inch screen. Now I see we have another upgrade to 1.1.0 and I am not sure which file is appropriate for my NanoVNA as there are 10 different files included in the zip file.
I would sincerely appreciate any guidance on which file to use for the upgrade. Thanks, Ed, K0KC |
