Bad V2 Clones? #clones
hwalker
For those who may have missed it, Gabriel posted the following on the groups.io NanoVNA forum:
" Gabriel Tenma White10:22am #13206 I was sent an image today, which is allegedly a new V2 clone on the market with inferior performance. Way under 900MHz the dynamic range has already worsened to 40dB. Currently the only "known good" supplier of the V2 is our client Shengxun technologies (hcxqs group on tindie and taobao) who I have assisted with QC. I will keep a list updated about any new "known good" suppliers I have checked out to make sure they meet the specs published in the user guide. If you are manufacturing the V2 (or planning to), you can send me some of your samples and I can verify them." I thought it would take a while before V2 clones started appearing in the marketplace but I guess if there's a buck to be made someone will figure out a way to go after it. Caveat emptor , "let the buyer beware." - Herb |

Hello Herb,
is it sure that the seller above does not sell original V2's from Gabriels manufacturer OwOComm? Are there any points with I could identify that it is not an original? In the description of the Aliexpress V2 nano you can read: "NanoVNA V2 3GHz second generation NanoVNA vector network analyzer, designed in collaboration with OwOComm." -- Chris -- I am not responsible for typos... they always respond to the bad robot... |

OwOComm is a design contractor and doesn't manufacture anything, so there are no "genuine" OwOComm devices other than our prototypes ;)

The Aliexpress sellers, from what I'm aware, are getting their stock from the hcxqs group taobao store, so for now I'm not aware of any clones being sold online yet. That last image of a bad "clone" I posted was from an inside source, and I don't think these have hit the market at all, apart from maybe some shenzhen mall. I will keep up my intelligence work and inform this mailing list if I discover any bad performing units being sold. On 12/05/2020 22:22, dekagon wrote:

OwOComm designed the V2 for their client Shengxun technologies (hcxqs group on tindie and taobao). I assume the Aliexpress vendor is a third-party re-seller and gets their supply from Shengxun technologies. Until Gabriel confirms that the Aliexpress vendor is a vetted re-seller then you have to take their word that they are a "good" supplier as defined by Gabriel. The Aliexpress vendor has sold 56 units with 36 units remaining. Their store has an overall 96.7% positive feedback rating for all products they sell. Aliexpress has a 90 days buyer protection money back guarantee. Current cost has been raised by ~ $3.00 to US $68.88 with free shipping. - Herb |

thank you for your explanations. I ordered one V2 from this seller. This was the reason why I asked whether these are clones... — Chris Am 12.05.2020 um 16:58 schrieb hwalker <herbwalker2476@...>: |
